Beautiful island in the gulf adjacent from tarpon springs. We enjoyed walking the sandbar , finding all the hermit crabs, shells and wildlife. The water is crystal clear and so serene. This was the first time my dog ran the beach and I e never seen her happier. She frolicked and chased birds. Kids loved seeing crabs, fish and found so much wildlife. If you have the chance to Make it over by boat I'd highly recommend. It took us about a 20 min boat road from tarpon springs. read more

This island is only accessible by boat about 3 miles off of Tarpon Springs. Anclote island is a shellers paradise including horse conchs, fighting conchs, the biggest olive shells, sand dollars, lightning whelk shells to name a few. The beautiful white sand island is popular on the weekends. There is a lighthouse on the island from 1887 but the fog prevented me from seeing. read more

Only accessible by boat- this key is half Pasco County and Half Pinellas County. I've camped on the north end of the beach with my old Boy Scout troop and what a campout that was! But this visit was courtesy of my daughter and my future son-in-love~ they have a new boat! They also live on an inter-coastal canal neighborhood and the island is straight west of their home and dock. The East side of the island is too shallow for anything other than kayaking, but loaded with mangroves and teeming with wildlife. The North End is easy enough to drop anchor and wade to the beach- almost untouched. My daughter always picks up trash when she goes out there (I raised her right) & even I toted a boat bumper I found up by the tree line on my hike back to the boat. Plenty of seashells to be found- my son was the king of finding sand dollars (or actually key hole sea urchins). We were out walking the beach for a good 2 hours before heading back to start cooking for Thanksgiving Dinner. What a fantastic way to spend the morning! We were off shore the night before watching the sunset and dolphins playing nearby. My daughter insists the middle West side of the island has even better shelling! Next time though- next time we'll explore more! read more

Anclote Key Island is 2.5 miles from Fred Howard Park of Tarpon Springs and accessible by kayak if it isn't too windy out. It is a large island bigger than three rooker island with camping allowed on the north side of the island and is only accessible by boat. Free camping is allowed after calling the park rangers. Anclote Key has palm trees on the north west side of the island and a light house on the south end of the island. Theres a ferry that goes out to the island every day from the Tarpon Springs Sponge docks. There's an outhouse onbthe northeast side of the island. There's good flats fishing on the east side of the island. Due to the Anclote Key islands size, it does get more boats than 3 rooker Island. I saw a marooned boat here that docked on the wrong side of the island and nose first and got inundated with water. 3 weeks later the marooned boat almost got swallowed whole by the quick sand. Shelling is popular. Finding sand dollars is very common on the west side of the island. The park ranger lives in the light house. Theres a 4 wheeler trail that goes around the island. read more
