It appeared to be a great success; a real pleasure to see, and taste, seasonal produce, from artisan producers and growers located within 100 miles of the M25. I was thrilled to find my favourite russet apples on sale (first of the season and totally scrumptious, with a very crisp texture and slightly 'nutty' taste). I also relished some wonderful fresh Buffalo cheese - amongst the best I have ever bought or savoured - expensive but well worth it. Other appealing stalls included the chilli stand with pretty plants and a range of fresh varieties; fabulous goats cheese from petite crottin to larger examples - plain, herbed, ash- coated and peppered. It's nit a farmer's market in the sense that there are tons of fruit & veg stalls. To me it seems more like a delightful slow food market. I had a delicious Buckwheat gallette (a kind of crepe) with spinach, French brie & cranberry sauce while enjoying the sunshine. Everything was prepared from scratch, so I had to wait patiently. Other stalls were offering fresh coffee, Ethiopian, Indian, North African and middle eastern foods...plus a gluten-free cake stall. Well, it turns out it was worth it. This place is dedicated to local Farmers who are growing and raising the produce themselves. After reading 'The Omnivore's Dilemma' by Michael Pollan earlier this year (I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know how the food gets on your table) I have developed a keen interest in buying my food in this way, and it appears so have a lot of other people as these kind of farmer's markets are increasing substantially in popularity. This market is held weekly in the grounds of a local school and has a very good choice of organic vegetables & fish as well as free range meat (chicken, beef, lamb, pork, sausages, bacon). You can also find buffalo mozzarella, fruit juices, cold cuts and yoghurt. The stall holders are very keen to explain how it may have been grown, reared and caught and although it's a little more expensive than your local supermarket the pay-off is taste, quality and ultimately your health.

This is a really great local market for local people. You'll have no trouble here…read more What I love about this market is that it's constantly changing.. some weeks there is a guy making fresh sushi, the next there will be French people serving up crepes that smell.. well, ridiculous, frankly. It's like you're by the Seine, not the Thames. I love the stall around the back that sells homemade sauces, chutneys and jams. Again, it's not there every week, but in a way that's good, or else jam and mustard is all I'd eat. Last week, I had the best brownie I've ever tasted, meaning I'm going to have to go to the gym for one extra session this week so I don't feel too guilty when I go back this Saturday. The two downers to this place are: 1. Because of the neighbourghood, and owing to the nature of the produce, it is quite pricey. I don't mind supporting local farmers, but you can end up spending more than you intend. 2. There isn't as much fruit and veg as I'd like ideally. I often go with a list of veggies that I want, only to be leave with just half of them. As Molly K says, it's not somewhere I'd recommend to people who have to travel, but it is worth a look when you're in the area, if only for the heavenly brownies.

They put their stalls up just outside Morrisons and the Odeon Cinema on the Broadway. The ting that strikes me is that all the stallholders are really friendly with lots of free samples and the time to talk about their products. I love the cheese counter, with top grade parmesan, teleggio, provolone, dolcelatte and gorgonzola. I always get samples before settling on the best 2 of the day. There's also an excellent olive oil merchant with a wide variety of oils and vinegars. My sister likes the incanto olive oil with a sweet grassy flavour. Their truffle oil is made with real truffles and not chemicals and reasonably priced. The biscuits are moreish but expensive and the olive stall always does brisk business. There are also usually a few stalls tagging on - jewelry and yesterday, a local cupcake stall. It's not the biggest farmers market but still worth a look. Merton Council, get your act together - the people of Britain need more farmers markets!

Parsons Green Farmers Market is a pleasant enough if unspectacular collection of fresh produce…read morestalls. The stalls are what you'd expect, nothing more. Bread, cakes, fresh fruit and veg, raw meat, game, pies, rounded off by one stall grilling sausages and burgers on the spot. It does have a couple of noteworthy points. One is the prices of the food, which seem to be lower than those found at Barnes Farmers Market. Another is that one of the stalls, 'Miriam's Munchies', sell millionaire shortbreads which are the best I've ever tasted. But these points aren't quite enough to lift the so-so feel of the rest of the market to 'Yay, I'm a fan'-dom. So, reasonable, but generally speaking nothing to get too excited about.

I'm very disappointed with Popina bakery at the farmers market. They advertise gluten free…read moreproducts which are not gluten free and are placed on the same dishes as the flour products and are even touching them. Because of cross contamination eating one of these cakes or savories would make a Celiac person extremely ill for several days. In order to be gluten free a product must be made in a separate pan and even a separate facility. It is not sufficient to have merely no gluten ingrediants. When I pointed this out to the chap selling them, he laughed at me and ridiculed me saying crumbs would never harm anyone. I was upset to see that he continues to place the cakes touching the gluten containing ones. Very poor show and against trading standards, Popina has no gluten free products and should not misrepresent themselves probably causing trusting customers to fall ill.

I looked at the half-eaten cupcake, it looked back it me, sexy food incarnate in my hand. It was the sexiest cupcake, if not the sexiest cake I have ever had the pleasure of putting in my mouth. I was Happy to try Bayley And Sage newly opened in Battersea …read more I tried the gratin dauphinois .... Just disgusting !!!! Half of the portion was oil. The the worst I ever had !!!! The ratatouille not much better... And no worst purchasing their meat wich is very expensive and far less testy than our local Butchers! The cheese is not well displayed and it s much nicer to get the cheese opposite in Hamish Johnson! Only the strawberries were nice... So disappointed!!!!
