Lets explain how a Chelsea Farmers Market looks like... No - you will not find fresh vegetables…read moreand stalls there. Instead the market is formed by different businesses arranged next to each other in a square. If you need to know which restaurant I recommend, I always opt for the Spanish place - where you can eat a proper steak, half a chicken with fries or a big spanish sausage. On a very hot Sunday afternoon we ordered sangria to cool down. There are two other places I visit. The organic food shop, which has a very deep selection, especially if you look for a special marmalade. In a white wooden hut you will find a book shop which has a wide selection of manly art, design, architecture and fashion. Here and then I find an interesting book - there is nothing as good as flicking through newly printed books. This place is ideal to just love and live on a Sunday afternoon. If there is one place I recommend to visit in summer in Chelsea it is this one. I suggest you go there with a group of friends and just chill out. Also, I discovered lots of Greek and Spanish people hang out around there -hot.

I didn't notice this place for ages even though I passed the entrance twice a day on the way to and…read morefrom work. It's something to do with the low, chalet-style buildings which house the shops, businesses and restaurants - they're just so un-flashy, un-Chelsea. So in the end I was brought here because someone recommended the alterations place to me I think it's called Leo's. It's run by an old Italian guy, the service is good and he is a big character. Expect to wait in a queue, listening to stories of his grandchildren. Upon exploration, the other shops in here are also great. I found a rare bound copy of The Book of Tea in the bookshop. I have been looking for one for years, randomly asking places. This is definitely the sign of a good bookshop. The organic / wholefoods shop is also good, as is the tobacconists and, although all I had was a takeaway sandwich from the restaurant, its was yummy. I like and miss Chelsea Farmer's Market, despite the severe lack of real farmers.

Like most mini farmers markets, try to get there early as all the best food goes quickly to eager locals and their Channel shopping trollies. Even though there are only between 12 and 15 stalls, there's a nice choice of meat, fish and vegetables, all organic and all from local producers. I particularly like the green leaves stall for just-cut watercress, spinach and rocket. They taste so much better than organic packaged produce from the supermarket and have a much longer life span. There's a good fresh herb stall too and if you fancy growing your own pak choi, or chili plant you can find them here. I had my first turkey and cranberry sandwich of the year and it was so good, it left me wondering why we don't eat that ugly old bird all year round. It came from a local farm and the farmer and his daughter were serving together so it's great to know that I was contributing to a small business rather than a huge faceless corporation. The ready made food is expensive though, so don't be expecting to find any market bargains here. I remember when 'free-range', 'organic' and 'GM free' were the new foodie buzz words, now it's what I've come to expect and I think everyone should have the option of eating well so I think it's a real shame that markets like this also come with a very high price tag.

It's chilled out, leafy green with actual trees, and full of quaint little cafes and stores. Like Chegworth Farm. Well it's like I died and went to Organic Food Palooza! Step off bustling Notting Hill Gate right into this picturesque farmyard shop**. Wicker baskets of fruit and veg jostle for space alongside homemade preserves and muselis. It just bursts with jolly, healthy goodness! No big name brands here. Ever seen those speciality Chegworth Farm juices in ritzy health food shops? Well they have a whole wall of them here. And Chegworth's own apple crumble and brownies. It's so damn wholesome, you just FEEL like a better person for being in there. Till you check the prices and are rapidly brought back to the reality that you are not the yummy mummy of Darquinn and Chardonnay and to shop here would bankrupt you. But you might as well buy yourself a treat. The crumble perhaps. Drown it on double cream and eat it sitting on the floor of your kitchen, dreaming of the day you too will be swanning about SW1, pushing a three wheeled jogger and discussing your husband's imminent vasectomy with the mums and babies coffee club. Err, or not! * Why not settle here now? Cos it's so effin far away from everything that it costs almost 30 quid to get home in a cab. And Susie-Stay-At-Home I am not! ** Yeah if that farmer had made his money as an oil baron and said farmyard was on his own private island.

Oh, Yah! Farmers' Fare. In Kensington. I found this all too standard. But then I used to work…read morein Fresh & Wild back in the day, so maybe I would. That's another big money retailer (no! we're independent and proud! I hear the Chegworth farm advertisers shout back) which specialises in organic produce, and cherry tomatoes which are more expensive than Nike clothing. So that yummy Mums with expensive push chairs can perouse the aisles in a leisurely manner and know that their kid's eating only goodness. Hey, I can't knock the hustle. Organic food's where it's at. And there needs to be many more prominent retailers on our high streets. And this I suppose is the Kensington brand of that, so it's going to be a bit poncey and over-priced. Which puts me off, but they do sell some really nice vegetables, lovely fruit and lots of organic and earthy produce (I've had that apple juice before and it's amazing!). So if you just HAVE to feed your new born some pureed organic pumpkin with a poppy seed foam - THEN come along to the Chegworth Farm Shop on Kensington Church Road!
