My wife and I love antique stores probably more than the average person. That being said not all…read moreantique stores are created equal. A lot of them don't have a large selection and sometimes the items are old but not necessarily nice quality. Antiques etcetera in Rockland had neither of these problems. They have a wide variety of antiques and all of them are very high quality. My wife and I whenever we go have a difficult time not spending more than we should because there are so many great things in the store. The prices are fair and the owner is very friendly and makes you feel welcome without at all being pushy. I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves to buy unique things especially pieces of art. My wife and I bought two desk lamps that we love so much and just the other day we went back there with our friends and got some art work. They are constantly adding new things and what they have flies off the shelves. Do yourself a favor and stop in if your in the area visiting or if your a local make a day trip out to just see what they have. You may need to buy a couple things too!

I was referred by someone to come here and talk to Bob (the owner) about something in particular…read moreI've been looking for. He didn't have the item, but it's not easy to find and my expectations on that were very low. A friendly customer who Bob was helping before me overheard and they both offered me great advice for continuing the hunt for my treasure. I had a look around the shop, and found a beautiful (fragile) trinket I decided to purchase. Bob took extra special care in wrapping my item to make sure it would get home in one piece. It was clear he cared, even though my purchase only cost $5. (A steal). When I went out to my car, Bob had followed to take down the "open" flag and saw that I had my dog with me. He called out "next time you come please bring your dog in with you!" And that just made my day. Customer service is everything, and this place is as good as is gets. I am putting this on my "must visit" list for my future returns to coastal Maine.

Owner is dishonest. We sold them some stuff and agreed with the woman owner on giving us a gift…read morecertificate that we could use whenever we wanted and have a declining balance. We wanted this because we USED to like the shop and wanted to support them instead of taking the cash and spending it somewhere else. After using it a couple times my wife went in to use it and the man owner refused her, called her a liar, and got aggressive and nasty. He's a real jackass, abusive to customers, and doesn't deserve the business he inherited from Daddy. We will never go back in there after the way he treated my wife. Bottom line is he cheated us out of money. DISHONEST.

I've been going to Elmer's since I was three (or younger; these are my earliest memories of it),…read moreand remember playing on the swingset made of...I'm not sure if it was old phone poles, or butcher block, or logs, but something big and clunky; there was a cow or some odd animal for a swing with a barrel for a body...A wooden statue of Elmer in a t-shirt. My dad used to renovate run-down stuff he'd salvaged from the Alna Dump (dump picking was legal; this was the early 70s) and sell or trade to Elmer. Hours would go by. So much amazing and rusty junk, and random things like thousands of wooden eggs and bags of antique long white gloves and lace tablecloths sold by the pound. Anyway, it's an antique mall, now, but there is still the old vibe there, chickens wandering around, rusty sawblades, and if you go out in the back rooms which maybe you aren't supposed to...The smell of wet cement and the old creepy tools hanging up *chef's kiss* Oh, and you'll leave with something reasonably priced. Last trip's treasures were that Yes album with the six part fold-out-art ($8) and a kinda cheesy old painting with ornate frame ($13); I'll toss the painting and upcycle the frame. Pretty sure some ghosts "live" there...bring a camera and take some spooky pictures to see spirit orbs! Can't recommend an Elmer's afternoon highly enough, particularly on a cold, rainy day.
