What I particularly like about Shahi Tandoori is that it is split into two quite separate spaces, one side is the restaurant and one is the takeaway. This is genius! There's nothing more annoying than people wandering through while you're eating to pick up their order, letting a draft in and spoiling the ambiance of the restaurant. Well Shahi has it covered. Food-wise, the side dishes are all great...I particularly like the Bombay Aloo, the Sag Paneer and the Onion Bhajis- delicious! I can also recommend the Vegetable Balti and Chicken Tikka Masala. Since this place is just around the corner, we often pop down to pick up a few side dishes to go with a home-cooked curry and they never look at us funny, despite our paltry order! I like them.

'Shahi' is a little bit cheaper then the more central Indian restaurants (and take aways, they do both). The food is also of a very good quality; I had the rogan josh and passanda, both of which I could eat 7 days a week. The area isn't the nicest, the decor is a little dated, but it's a fantastic place filled with Indian charm (and food).

But to sustain a business sometimes you have to branch out to lure in more custom. Whilst the burgers and pizzas aren't up to much, they're cheap and at least on offer. As you would expect, Aysha soar in the curry department. The Bengal Noodles are lovely, cooked with chicken and chillied herbs. Another notable dish is the Garlic Chilli Chicken, sublime. Most curries are well priced and all come with rice and salad, but they are all top quality.

Specialising more in the finer end of Indian cuisine, Karim's offers a modern and well presented place to explore a few new curry dishes. I plumped for the Prawn Nowab, something i've never heard of before. Apparently the dish of kings, I had to pay the rather jaw dropping sum of £12 to feel like a royal. The dish was fantastic, but whether it was worth twice as much as my normal curry, I'm just not sure. Certainly a good choice if you're bored of conventional Indian food, the menu really does go beyond what you would imagine.

Most disconcerting however was the supernatural green of the king prawn caldine, clearly imparted by green food coloring. I don't know if the restaurant ran out of green curry paste or coriander or why they felt obligated to put so much artificial coloring in the dish, but it definitely detracted from my enjoyment of the meal.

The service here isn't as excellent as I would have liked compared to some of it's local competitors but still wasn't awful. I recommend ordering some Bombay Aloo as this is very nice. It is a very large restaurant as it has expanded recently and this can sometimes falter the atmosphere but doesn't affect the food.
