I naturally have really dark hair so this was a lot of work to do in one day. Jake was amazing!!! From the moment I walked in, I immediately felt comfortable and at ease. There was 3 things that I really liked, no LOVE about Vanessa's hair salon. 1. They are VERY CLEAR about wearing a mask which is such a big thing to me bc I have close family members I live with that have compromised immune systems so it was really nice to know that vanessa and jake made sure to take their customers safety into consideration. Everything was clean and spacious. 2. Jake knew how to take my dark hair (which was a mix of dark brown, black, reddish-orange hair that i attempted to bleach and dye myself) and lighten it using bleach without destroying my hair. My hair feels soft, strong, and healthy!! Plus it looks absolutely fabulous!!! I spent almost an entire day getting my hair done. Throughout the whole process, Jake and Vanessa made sure to check in with how I was doing. I had to bleach my whole head in order for the purple color to show up and Jake was able to lift and lighten my hair as much as possible without damaging my hair. This means so much to me bc a year and a half ago I let a different hair salon bleach my hair and it all fell out because it was bleached improperly. Jake knows the CORRECT way to bleach and dye someone's hair!!! 3. The third thing I really liked was that I immediately felt at ease and comfortable from the minute I walked in. I felt like I was hanging out with my best friends the entire time I was there. I dont plan on going to any other salon again. In fact, I cant wait to bring my mom and sister in so they can experience the amazing magical work of these hair magicians!! Plus they even do waxing. I got my eyebrows done and they look amazing!!! I highly suggest going to Vannesa's hair salon.

I decided Lavish had a super clear and very safe protocol listed on their website, liked their insta, and messaged asking about availability. I found a photo of hair i loved on their insta, a nice root shadow with dimension and a good length. I sent it and was told the stylist who did that particular cut + color wasn't available until december, but they could recommend Jeanette. I couldn't find a ton on her insta showing what I really wanted but i got the impression that this salon only employs stylists who know what they're doing, plus they had a saturday morning opening for her, so i decided: let's do it! whoever responds to the instagram messages was incredibly prompt, clear, and sweet. this is a business WIN. being from nyc, i just don't love talking on the phone and love being able to schedule something online while doing other things. Lavish has one of the most seamless scheduling services. i arrived around 8:50am for my 9:00 appt and the salon staff was already in and bustling, but there was a sign on the door not to enter until called in. I appreciate how safe this salon was on their website, but they practice what they preach inside as well. I was called in and everyone was wearing a mask, I was asked to sanitize my hands upon entering, and the initial conversation with Jeanette was great, she knew exactly what I wanted and consulted with another stylist too. I loved that! All these women were so supportive to get me, the client, what I wanted. I love when stylists give advice to their coworkers and I wish more salons were comfortable with this, it's a rare gem of communication to find. I expected I'd be in the salon for a long time because I have so much hair...but Jeanette was insanely patient and was able to lighten my hair so much!!! She really knows what she's doing when it comes to blondes and keeping the integrity of the hair to prevent breakage. She also did a great job on the cut, I am not one to be attached to length, so i kind of told her to cut it as short as she wanted but i'd love to be able to pull it back in a low pony. She cut it to the PERFECT lob length. My only gripe is that Jeanette and the Lavish team aren't in brooklyn, guess i'll have to make the trip to get my hair done!!! I hope this salon can stay open through this second wave of the pandemic, they're all so talented at their craft and they all deserve to win.

We talked through a plan together, and she explained that going from years of black dye to lighter hair would take time and patience, which I really appreciated. At my first appointment, she started the process with highlights to slowly begin lightening my hair. We achieved a beautiful caramel color that I absolutely love and that suits me really well while we continue the process of going lighter over time. My hair is also feeling healthy and not over processed after lightening, which was one of the things I worried about. She also gave me a haircut, which was a big deal for me because I haven't trusted anyone to cut my hair in years after a bad experience. Melissa really listened to what I wanted and gave my fine hair long layers that added dimension while still keeping the length I wanted. I'm so happy with the results and already looking forward to my next appointment with her to continue the journey!
