I was very happy with my recent visit to Dr. Hines for my full body yearly scan, and also addressing some additional skin issues/concerns I am having. I have had a very difficult time finding a local dermatologist that I feel is doing a good job checking my skin and wanting to support my health. Since I have a history of multiple melanomas it is very important that I find a dermatologist that is knowledgeable and takes care to make sure I stay clear of future issues. Dr. Hines is the first dermatologist that I have found in the area, that took the time to do a thorough body check for the melanoma, and also checked for other skin issues as well. He is very discreet and definitely makes you feel at ease during the exam, which is helpful in such a vulnerable setting. Dr. Hines and his nurse were both extremely helpful prior, during, and after the visit. I was promptly called after test results were received back a few days later and put my mind at ease that the pathology was negative. I am very happy to finally have a great dermatologist on my team here in Anacortes and would definitely recommend him to anyone. read more

I appreciate so much about the way Dr. Hines practices medicine. Like his office space, Dr. Hines is professional yet very comfortable. He answers the phone or returns calls promptly, is able to schedule me quickly at times convenient to me - despite ferry challenges. He expresses interest in my general health & well-being. His examination is very thorough. His competent nurse is present to take notes & look up info, so that Dr. Hines can fully engage with me. After 4 general & family practitioners + 2 dermatologists, Dr. Hines finally got the diagnosis and treatment right. For awhile when a drug manufacturer spiked prices, Dr. Hines made the prescription ointment, affordably, for his patients. His care is genuine, his manner is kind, fun & respectful, and his medical skills are top notch. I have referred 6 friends & all are very happy with Dr. Hines. I have been to Anacortes Dermatology for help a few different times, and I was *extremely impressed* with Andy and his staff from my first visit, and onward, for the following reasons - his professionalism/education, excellent bedside manner, genuine care and concern, and thoroughness in addressing my concerns / conditions. The examinations have been thorough, and he took more time to actually do a complete examination versus other dermatologists I've previously been to who have "flown" through the process, and who have not been thorough. I love how he spends time educating me / his patients too, and does not try to up-sell. He is by far the best dermatologist I have ever been to - hands down. I will not see another dermatologist. I finally decided it was time for a full body check for signs of skin cancer. As a child, I had a yearly summer sunburn, and was concerned about my risk. I also had a dark spot on my check, and assorted other lesions I was concerned about. Dr. Hines was great and explained what each type of lesion was. Only the dark spot on my check was worrisome, and I will be returning to his office in the fall to have it removed. The last time I needed a dermatologist (about 20 years ago) Anacortes did not have any in town, and I had to go to Mount Vernon. I was pleased to discover this is no longer the case, and found 3 dermatology practices in town. I chose Dr. Hines, because after reviewing all 3 practices online, his practice seemed the best fit for me. I was very happy with the care I received from him. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Hines for a few years now and have had several IPL treatments. What I like about Anacortes Dermatology compared to others, is that I don't feel like I'm being up-sold on more services. Other dermatologists wanted me to come in for a series of IPL treatments over several months which increases my time and cost significantly while yielding the same result. Dr. Hines and his staff are able to provide an effective and safe treatment in one visit! My last visit was a month ago, during COVID. I felt perfectly safe every step of the way from waiting in my car until the operatory room was disinfected to the actual procedure performed by Dr. Hines and assistant who were fully masked and shielded. Dr. Hines is a great Dermatologist. He has taken care of my skin, post cancer, for quite a few years. He performs full body scans in a manner that makes me feel completely comfortable and always has an assistant in the room. He also doesn't tell you a treatment will work 100% if he isn't sure and doesn't volunteer anything unnecessary (revenue enhancement) unless you ask (which I have). I have been to another well known dermatologist in Anacortes/Mt. Vernon and received "suspicious" test results one year later in the mail, claiming the letter got lost which is completely unacceptable! I have also been to a dermatologist that continually suggests (expensive) enhancements that I have not asked for. This has not happened at this clinic. I would highly recommend AD and Dr. Hines. read more

Dr. Hines has been outstanding in all aspects of our experience. My first call was answered by an answering machine and he personally returned my message within 10 minutes. He was very informative and helpful on the phone. (I was surprised to receive return call from the doctor directly.) His check in process is made easy by an online intake form, sent days ahead of time. His office is easy accessed, professional, and comfortable. Upon arrival, Dr. Hines showed excellent "bedside manner" with the patient, my slightly-nervous 8 year old daughter. This was my first experience with a dermatologist...and as it turns out I really lucked out , because what I was getting checked out as a a simple blister turned out , after Dr. Hines examined it and got a byopsy, a basil cell carcinoma. So we scheduled a removal / surgery and thruout the entire procedure he and his office have been everything you would hope for...it actually appears as though following up , making sure things are going well, is a higher priority than getting paid. I went in convinced I had a skin cancer on my nose. Dr. Hines conducted a thorough exam and was able to relieve my mind on that count. He then did a thorough skin examination and caught a spot on my forearm that had been there so long I'd gotten used to it. He identified it as a pre-cancerous actinic keratosis (not a cancer, but the type of growth that might become one eventually) and eliminated it right there and then with spray liquid nitrogen. Fantastic experience! I have a toddler that has very sensitive skin. It got to the point where she developed open sores on her face due to scratching. When I finally found a doctor that takes my daughters insurance the first appointment available was in July, two months away. Dr. Haines was able to get me in the next week. Really liked my experience here. This is not the first dermatologist I have used, and I found Dr. Hines to be very warm and welcoming. Why didn't I go to him sooner?!!!! Nice, clean office. Friendly concerned staff. Good location (I walked on ferry, took Skat bus and got a walk in to boot). He didn't scare me. Explained things thoroughly. Nancy, his assistant, made sure I understood what to do too, and even helped me find how to get coupons to save on the two prescriptions I needed. What great experience - and who would have guessed, when I was dreading it! Both Dr. Hines and his nurse were very professional, and also personable and reassuring, offering tips on how to keep skin hydrated for example. The doctor didn't treat me like a dodo for wondering about certain spots, and he didn't give me a lecture about how I'd spent too much time in the sun.
