I am a die hard brunch fan and have had just no time to put it into my schedule recently :// Soooo finally I went on vacation and came to visit my best friend who lives in Berlin & she made sure to pencil it in. We got here around 12 and there tables open, and after about 30 minutes a big party at the couches got up and we snagged their spots. Just a super comfy and welcoming space where you have no problem spending some time in! We opted for the brunch buffet and made an incredible decision!! The buffet was stacked with Euro classics like fresh baked breads, marmelades, and so many delicious cheeses and meats! Also there were many yummy salads, some with beans some with feta and tomatoes. (~8€) To drink, I told the super kind server to pick for me between black currant & rhubarb juice and he brought the black currant and wow amazing choice!! One of my now favourite juices. This spot is directly at U Eberswalderstraße and fits very well into the Prenzlauerberg hipster clichée. Their burgers are made with beetroot patties and are served within brioche buns. You can decide between several options what should go on your burger. There are really exciting options such as peanut butter and banana! My friend who ordered the burger was happy with her food and the drinks were fine too. I can't really name what is missing to turn this review into a 4* one but I can't say that I like this spot. For some reason it didn't convinced me. I think it's their focus on being very hipster and lack of originality that bugs me most. None of the items on the menu made me say "wow that sounds great". It feels a bit dull to me. Also: The waiter were a bit confused on that day and took their time for our orders and forgot to bring us extra straws or napkins eventhough the asked for it. This is a great place to stop by for coffee or a delicious veggie burger when you're strolling down Kastanienallee or about to take a walk in the Mauerpark. Conveniently located next to the subway stop 'Eberswalder Straße', this café/bar for sure isn't a top secret location but a nice space to sit down and watch the people walking by. I loved the food options as their burger menu is quite creative. I had the "The sun always shines on Berlin" burger menu that comes with a small soup, a small serving of coleslaw and crisps. The burger patties are made from beetroot (so maybe this isn't the perfect spot for meat lovers) and taste so so good. The texture and the flavor went perfectly with the goat cheese and dates which were added as toppings and after I devoured my plate I was really satisfied without feeling too full (even though I had gotten here quite hungry). The girl working that afternoon was super friendly and seemed very approachable. Overall the vibe was lighthearted and I also loved the music they were playing. The look is probably what most people would consider hipster-ish. Personally I loved the comfy chairs and that there is a non-smoking area separated from the smoking area by a glass door. My only complaint would be that the tea selection is quite expensive starting at 3 € (while coffee ranges from 1.7 € to 3.2 €). I'll definitely come back for the chill atmosphere and the great burgers, however I think it's smart to avoid weekends if you're looking to work/study, relax or simply watch the people walking by. read more

I've been vege-preferian (meaning I prefer a vegetarian diet, though I will eat meat on very rare occasions) since 1996. In that time, I have lived in 11 cities in 4 different countries. I say that to tell you that I have tried veggie burger all over the world. And let me tell you, these are, by far, the best I have ever had. So moist and delicious and the chef certainly did not skimp on flavour. They were so good, that despite only being in Berlin a few days, we went back for more. Oh, I've been away from Berlin for just a half day, and I am already missing those burgers. That said, if I were judging the restaurant on the burgers alone, I would give this place 5-stars, easily. But the service was really slow and inattentive. And they served these decadent burgers with store-bought chips. That was disappointing. Had they just served them with the fabulous soup and coleslaw, I might be able to overlook the poor service. But with mass-produced chips, I have to knock off a star. But wow, those burgers are amazing. I may spend the next few months trying to reproduce those at home. read more

Probably the place more in accordance with Berlin's hipster cliché, and that made it pretty popular around the area. I love its unorthodox seating and the fact that there's stuff going on at every time during the day but I think we all agree on the fact that the service needs A LOT of improvement. read more

After finally trying out a Currywurst at Konnopke's Imbiss (not as spectacular as I'd expected, but it was ok), I was walking homewards and happened to walk past An einem Sonntag im August. It caught my eye, so I walked in. I really, really liked the atmosphere here. There were glass doors separating the spacious main area from the smoking room, and they seemed to actually work! (unlike some other places I've been to...but then again, there weren't any smokers at the time). Lining the long wall were three large wooden "steps" padded with cushions and regularly interrupted by small tables with menus, pots of sugar, and books. These stair/benches were decently but not super comfortable, but I still I enjoyed sitting there--it was the perfect people-watching spot, with great views out the large windows of the street. Also in the café were sofas (which I later moved to), plentiful outlets, WIFI, and delicious drinks. On the slightly pricier end of things, but the warm red currant juice (with a hint of cinnamon!) that I ordered was absolutely delectable. Coming back for sure! read more

This really should be worth 4 or even 5 stars, but the rather useless service lets it down. It's a bit 'apocalyse chic', like Sofabar in HH but with a bit more thought and furnishing, so really nicely done. If I was twentyish, just moved to the big city and in my first year at university, I would think An Einem Sonntag Im August was the coolest place on earth. It's trashy, the staff are all students too, the music is loud and generally indie, the toilets are a mess and their walls covered in outdated concert posters and old newspaper articles, there's a very cheap and standard breakfast buffet every day until twelve, and all the kids hang out there. If you're that student that I described above then go, you'll love it there. If you're in your mid-30s and you're slowly turning into your mum / dad then don't, you won't. Although the ceiling fresco does actually look pretty cool. read more

My boyfriend and I had a baileys coffee an d a Russian tea at this cafe. I liked my tea a lot and I thought it was a good idea to combine tea with jelly (not bubble tea style at all). The cafe had a nice interior and the service was really good. I especially liked that there was a non-smoker and a smoker area, separated by a glass divider. read more

Barely want to give this place more attention since it's already popular as it is. But it's a great place to work, to chill, to go out with friends, and it looks amazing. It sends out good vibes. The service is cool, calm and quick. The drinks are OK, decent. This place is not the place to go to if you want very nice drinks or top food, they have a nice brunch which lasts til' 3(!), but most of all, it has a great atmosphere and it's nice any time of the day, with anyone. read more

One of my favorite coffee places in Berlin.. Which isn't so easy to find. It has a good atmosphere and free wifi. Stay around long enough and it turns into a pretty cool bar in the evening. Great coffee and lots of seating outside and inside. read more

With unorthodox seating and vegan and vegetarian burgers, this place is very memorable. Nicely located in Prenzlauer berg off the U2 and M10, close to Mauerpark and the NYU campus, it's a nice place to meet friends that aren't fond of meat. read more

This would be a realy nice place, if the service didn't suck. Came here twice, both times the same waitress. Both times she seemed rather pissed and came to our table about once every 2 hours. Then she took my water away even though it was still half full and on top of all, my friend had a hair in her drink and they didn't seem very sorry about that (she got a new one though). It's a shame because the drinks are great, the music is cool and it's just a very pretty place for a coffee or a cocktail. But for the prices they have, I expect better. I went to this bar yesterday and I took a baileys, the price written on the menu was 3 euro and there was nothing written about the possible sizes... when I paid the waitress told me it was 6 euro, I asked why and she told me that I took the big one, although I did not ask for it and it was not written on the menu. Two nights ago I decided to try it as I live around the corner and is always packed. Only good thing about this place is the location and the decoration inside. The music is so loud taht you can't talk. Took ages to be served. I ordered cheescake (very very poor and mediocre), and a double expresso. The coffee came burnt so I decided to tell the waitres who didn't know what to do. So I went with the coffee to the bar where the coffee machine and the guy preparing them was, and tell him that it was burnt. He answered on a really rude way: '' What do you know about coffee? ''. It was late and I was tired so I didn't say a word, left the coffee and came back to the table where I asked for the bill. The waitres wanted to charge me the coffee and I refused. She, really upset, agreed. With all the nice places in Prenzlauer Berg I don't understand how this is so packed. Good Place for drinking and smoking Small prices, lekker bier, cool service and great cocktails right by the underground Eberswalder Strasse. An die Wände die Illustrations sind neu und peaceful!!! Went here for drinks in the evening. It was very crowded but we ended up getting a table. The place is really cool and cozy; loud and lively. The menu featured several interesting drinks and for some drinks you can even choose which brand of alcohol you want. My drink wasn't that great, but I think it might just not be my drink in general.
