I always have a fear that I'm going to get my first cavity whenever I visit the dentist and so I try to avoid it (stupidly) at all costs. But eventually I decided that I should do the right thing while my insurance is still with my parents, and check them out. I found this place through a friend who does her invisalign here. I actually went for a consult regarding that and she actually talked me out of it because she felt that my gap was charismatic and it wasn't worth the thousands of dollars to correct it. So props for the honesty I then went back for a cleaning which was done by a tech who was really friendly and let me know exactly what she was doing and what to expect. They gave me toothpaste, a brush with her name on there so I don't forget (that they gave it to me) and two old school floss tins. This place is tiny but runs efficiently and Dr. David is super friendly, honest and funny. The appointment was a little hard to come so it's best to make them in advance. It's also inside a doorman operated building so it can be easy to miss. read more

Best. Dentist. Ever. Period. I had a traumatic experience with a dentist as a child (it involved an evil guy shoving sharp bits of metal into my gums), so I was always dental-phobic. However, my view on dentists changed when I started going to see Dr. David. I actually look forward to going to the dentist now! I happily floss on a daily basis! The office staff and hygienists are so nice, and Dr. David is awesome. The only downside is that the location is inconvenient if you don't live on the UES, but I will happily trek uptown to come here. My favorite Dr. David story is when I went in for a cleaning last year. I had started a new job which provided unlimited soda, so I ended up drinking a lot of Diet Coke (about one per day, though I have since quit after learning how bad it is for your bones.) I asked if her that was anything to be concerned about, and she chuckled and said "one soda per day? You should have seen how much I drank in dental school!" Too funny/ironic... a dentist that admits that they relied on soda to get through dental school. This is just one example of how nice and good-natured Dr. David is. I recommend her to all my friends, and now I am recommending her to the Yelpers! read more

Okay, disclaimer: I'm actually one of those weird freaks who loves going to the dentist. I love getting my teeth cleaned and how they feel afterwards. But despite that, I highly recommend Dr. Amy David. I have been a patient for several years. Granted, I have mostly only gone for cleanings (yay for no cavities!); but I have also had Dr. David bond some teeth that had small chips in them (boo for teeth grinding). The staff is very nice, as is Dr. David. She really takes time to talk with you and find out if there are any changes in your dental health (e.g. sensitivity to heat/cold, diet changes, etc.) and she doesn't pressure you to get unnecessary cosmetic work (e.g. bleaching, etc.). read more

I love Dr. David! She went to school in Louisville, so we bonded over some Ohio River Valley talk the first time I went in. That was nearly four years ago now! I will admit, I've never had a cavity. So, this review is coming from someone who hasn't ever had a "bad" dental experience. But, I did think that I needed braces until I met her. She told me my teeth were fine. Then I asked her about whitening...she told me I didn't need it either. Seriously, this is a woman who does her work because she loves it. Not because of the money, otherwise I'd be sitting here with a $10,000 invisalign, bleached, white smile. She's also super friendly, and I couldn't ask more! With her I actually look forward to my bi-annual screenings and cleanings! read more

I recently had a very good cleaning and dental exam here. The staff is extremely nice, which if you are a dental chicken like me, it makes a difference! The hygenist was kind and thorough, and left me with sparkly teeth! Dr. Amy David is a doll -- so sweet! I would highly recommend her to anyone who has a fear of the dentist -- she will put you right at ease! I haven't had any fillings or other dental work done here, so I can't comment on that front. read more

Dr. Amy David is hands-down the best dentist I have ever had. Her demeanor is always friendly and professional. But even more important than that, she has outstanding-- really remarkable-- dental technique and skills. I was amazed to have novacaine shots, drilling and filling-- even an extraction-- with no pain at all. She clearly places her patients' comfort at the top of her list. Her facility is state-of-the-art and immaculate. Her whole staff follows her lead: it seems sincerely important to all that you have a good experience all-around. I recently had to find a new dentist and had a bad experience with a dental office on CPW (see earlier yelp); but I hit the jackpot with this one, baby! Look no further. Seriously. I did the looking for you, fellow Yelpers. I could not recommend her more enthusiastically; I would need to consult a thesaurus for fitting superlatives. Very happy to have found her :) read more

I have been going to Dr. Amy David for years. She and her team are just the best!

- Called to find out if the dentist was accepting new patients - Receptionist picked up and took my name and phone number and said someone could call me back (how do you not have an answer to a simple yes or no question) - Never received a phone call back - Week later I called again - Receptionist picked up and took my name and phone number and said someone could call me back - Never received a phone call back - Week later I called again (should have taken the previous attempts as red flags, honestly) - Made an appointment for two-three weeks later - Receptionist took insurance information - The day before my appointment I received a phone call from them saying they had an issue with the insurance -They ended up having a lot of the information wrong in a way that couldn't have been a simple mistake - Arrived late to the appointment and apologized to the receptionist but the dental assistant was much harsher and condescending about it than she needed to be (if this were the only thing wrong I would let it slide because I was in the wrong being late) and set the tone for the visit in an uncomfortable way - Find out they need x-rays (for a cleaning?) when no one ever informed me of this prior - They tried to take x-rays again in their office, despite the fact that my old dentist already had x-rays from 5 months ago taken and I could have had them emailed over to them if someone had mentioned that to me the other times we talked on the phone - Find out that my insurance will not cover the cleaning or new x-rays (I'm not even certain that my insurance would cover a second set of x-rays in one year and I'm not going to get them done for a cleaning, especially in case I have some sort of accident and need x-rays done in the near future) for another couple of weeks so the entire appointment was a waste of time The actual dentist was nice and but insisted on x-rays for a cleaning. She tried to amend the situation but at the end of the day her staff is appalling. I only decided to continue to pursue with making an appointment with the dentist because her reviews were so good, even after no one returned a single phone call of mine. After all of the back and forth, miscommunication, and disorganization with the rude staff, I don't want to reschedule. read more

She's awesome. Really. I told her and her office that I hadn't been to a dentist in about two years. Turned out it was closer to 4 yrs and the pending cavity I was supposed to keep an eye on had blossomed into a full fledge hole in my tooth. Crater really. (In my defense, I've had awful dentist experiences that included being yelled at by a dude holding a needle once and then choking on my own blood when I had my eye teeth removed as a kid.) So here I am with Dr. David, post cleaning (remarkably gentle & complete by the way -- the dental hygenist was lovely.) "Feeling any tooth pain?" Dr. David asked when looking at my x-rays. "No. Should I be?" "Yes." Apparently I was precariously close to a root canal. Yeah, that wasn't going to help my fear of the dentist any. Went back for the filling a week later. Dr. David drilled but the cavity was too deep. She gave me temporary filling and after the swelling went down, a real filling and did some type of magic so that I got away with a filling and not the root canal I was dangerously close to. I've already booked my next cleaning. Oh, and I'll second the view here that she's seriously *not* pushy. I have a tooth that moved out of the spot my thousands of dollars of orthodontia put it into. She told me there wasn't any point in moving it again unless it really bothered me and added that it gave me character. read more

Dr. David is as wonderful and knowledgeable as everyone says, but be prepared to pay out the tuchus. I was charged $250 for a cleaning and $680 for one filling, and needless to say my insurance wasn't going to touch most of that! read more

I went to this dental office after reading all the reviews but my experience wasn't very good. I went for teeth cleaning ( i have braces). I called them and asked if I can schedule a visit that would only include teeth cleaning by a hygienist without a check up since I had a check up by another dentist a couple of months prior. I also told them I would have my orthodontist send them my latest xrays so they wouldn't have to take new ones. The person on the phone said that was OK and gave me a quote that didn't include the xrays and the check up by the doctor. When I got there, the same person I spoke with on the phone said that I must be seen by the dentist ( Amy David) and that the price will double from what she originally told me. I explained that I wouldn't have come had I known that in advance. She was not apologetic at all for giving me the wrong quote over the phone, more over she spoke to me as if I was lying. Eventually I decided I will go ahead and get the cleaning done and pay the higher rate of $230. To make that matter worst the hygienist did a very mediocre job. She didn't even look at my x rays prior to starting the cleaning ( even though all dentists request that x rays must be taken before), as she would've known that 2 of my front teeth had crowns made of filling and must be treated with caution. At one point I felt that she was scrubbing my filling and I had to stop her. If she looked at the xrays she would have known that these were crowns/fillings not my natural teeth. The whole process lasted 10 -15 min. She didn't even check the dept of my gum. This was definitely the shortest teeth cleaning session I ever received. After the cleaning the doctor (Amy David) came to check my teeth and mouth. She does have a great personality and is very pleasant. She checked my teeth for a few minutes and answered a few question in a very pleasant manner. Unfortunately I will not be going back since I didn't get the service I expected and payed for and I believe that they didn't handle the issue correctly. If they at least apologized for giving me the wrong information over the phone I would've been satisfied. read more
