The staff are people you grow to know and love as much as the accessible Oregon District. Everyone from Kathy at the front desk to the familiar faces that makeup St. Clair Lofts, it's a unique place in the downtown area. I cannot say enough about this place I call home!

Pros: -large beautiful windows in the apartment -overall one of the best prices for the location close to Oregon district -always had easy to find street parking, never paid for a parking spot -fixed my maintenance issues usually within a day -really strong community among the people who were living there - gym, backyard patio area with grill, free community entertainment space to rent -leasing office would throw 2-3 holiday parties with beer, wine and food pre-covid -friendly, approachable management Cons: - thin walls, hopefully you have respectful neighbors like I did - gym is bare - leasing office did not keep track of my annual leasing contract renewal dates, responsibility was on me to renew my lease dates without receiving reminders to do so. Also wants tenants to tell the office more than 60 days they are moving out by the end of the lease without receiving any reminder/notification to make that decision - near a homeless shelter (did not cause me any issues) but guys will occasionally cat call

We lived at The Cannery after selling our Oakwood home. Overall I was pretty satisfied and would…read morerecommend leasing here. The size for the price was fair and the downtown location can't be beat. The complex is actually several buildings opened up internally and the charm of the old buildings with exposed brick is pretty cool. I'll start with the negative: The finishes leave a little to be desired- cheap carpet with I don't think any pad underneath, and the counters, fixtures and appliances could stand some updating. Noise level- I could definitely hear my neighbors; upstairs walking around and video games that sounded like WW3 was starting. You can hear the traffic outside but that's city living. The halls constantly smelled like weed, but at least that didn't float into the apartment. It was hard to keep the place cool in the summer. We lived on the 3rd floor and our AC ran constantly. I even had to run it during the winter occasionally, but considering the 12 foot ceilings, the power bill wasn't too hateful. Bedroom closets were pretty non-existent, only an open small hanging space, but that was an easy fix with an Ikea wardrobe and some downsizing. The good things outweigh the negatives and I believe there is no optimum apartment living. First of all, the managers, Krissy and Crystal, are fantastic. They are courteous and prompt to respond to anything and all around the biggest asset to The Cannery Lofts. They went out of their way to sign for packages and get them to us. Note to the owners: do not let these girls go. Also, the people who live here are super nice. I didn't meet anyone who didn't say hi or wasn't pleasant. The maintenance team was in house and polite. And trust me, there are some upkeep issues that come along with a 100 year old building. Parking is kind of a neither + or - for me. I enjoyed the covered secure parking garage and not having to scrape my car, but it was a little of a pain that it was across the street and it was kind of pricey. It also took 3 spaces reassigned to find one that would fit my Honda Pilot. (but Crystal was super helpful about helping me do that!) The parking garage seemed safe and I never got my car broken into. The workout space in the basement was good and saved us a gym membership. I also liked the dry cleaning valet onsite. It was a bit odd we could only open one window just part way, but there was a community deck with nice furniture and a grill on the roof with views of downtown. The complex has a private facebook page which made communication among the residents easy for selling things, organizing events, letting us know what food trucks were near by, etc. Most of the businesses on the first floor of The Cannery including Square One Salon offered a resident discount. And like I said, the exposed brick was charming and the location is perfect... everything except groceries & ice within walking distance. Again, I don't believe there is a perfect rental situation; there will always be pluses and minuses. I would recommend you check out The Cannery if you are looking to rent in downtown Dayton.

And there is a trash room on every floor. In addition to that there's a whole pet area. In the pet area, there's a section for you to wash you dogs, another room for them to use the bathroom, and another room for them to run around and play with other dogs. Useful during the cold or rainy months. The apartments/condos here are very nice!! There are beautiful floor to ceiling windows in almost every room. It's super bright and the views are beautiful! Annette who works at First Place Condos is very nice and friendly. She knows ALL the tenants by name. It is a great place to look at when finding a place to live in Dayton. Just be careful what street you're turning on. With all the construction that is currently going on in Downtown Dayton, a lot of streets are closed or one way. And some entrances to the highways are closed.

In fact, all those interior photos are of my old apartment. Everything was great at first, until I began to smell cigarette smoke inside and around my apartment. Little did I know that First Place is one of the few smoker-friendly buildings left. As someone with asthma, this became a nightmare. I had to purchase 3 air purifiers to remove the smell of smoke in the unit for fear of it getting on me and my clothes. Things got much worse several months later when I brought home an 8-week old puppy. First Place stated they were pet-friendly, but this is not the case. Within a few days, I began receiving noise complaints from Management (via neighbors) regarding my newborn puppy barking. Remember, this is an 8-week-old puppy, and these neighbors chose to live in a pet-friendly building, on a pet-friendly floor--without they themselves having pets. After several back-and-forths with management, I forcefully and successfully sought legal action to terminate my lease but paid a penalty. Bottom line, there are much, much better apartments and condos in downtown Dayton where pets can be pets, and where you can breathe clean air.
