We've been to this shop a few times and usually had very good experiences. Also we usually love trying to support local business instead of big chain companies... However today's experience totally sucked to be honest. We came in to buy a goldfish. We've bought three goldfish from here before. To start, the employee didn't greet us, seemed annoyed when asked about the fish, and admitted she didn't know much about them then also said she won't catch the smaller fish because it's too hard... We picked a goldfish similar (same size and colors) to the one we bought in July for $10.99, but the tank pricing didn't have an extract price matching description for the goldfish we picked. Instead of trying to figure out what to do herself the employee called the owner, Hope, who said it was $14.99 (that price was not listed on the tank for anything). When we mentioned the price July, Hope dismissed it, said she should charge $19.99 because it was a large fish from that tank but it was a normal/medium sized goldfish as there were fish much larger in the tank. Only things listed on that tank for $19.99 were XL fish. When we tried to explain our situation Hope argued that "it doesn't matter that the price isn't on the tank and you are only mad because we're not getting what we want." Just wow... terrible customer service skills from a business owner... Honestly I feel it's a little silly to be writing a review about this as it was just over $4. But really it wasn't about the $4; it was about the rude, dismissive attitude from both the employee and the owner. For that reason, we won't be back, and I would never recommend anyone shopping here ever. read more

Came in for the first time about a week ago to pick up some crickets for our bearded dragons. While walking past the two cages up front, I felt a paw reach out and grab me. Immediately fell in love with one of the cats in the store, filled out an application that night and heard back the next day. Hope made the adoption process incredibly easy while assuring us that she vets her applicants thoroughly, ensuring all of her animals go to a great home (which we, as animal lovers, loved to see). When we went to pick up our newest family member, Hope was incredibly helpful in making sure we had everything he would need, informing us of his likes and dislikes, and being completely transparent about his vet records. 5 days later, we're cuddled up in bed with our handsome man, Bo. Recently, my kids and I went to Amwell Pet Supply in search of a guinea pig for my daughter. It was our first time there and boy, were we pleasantly surprised! The store not only has everything you need for your pet, it has a cozy and family friendly feel as soon as you walk in. We were given absolute one on one attention and all of our questions were answered. We left with a cage full of goodies and our new, adopted furry friend Toffee, the sweetest guinea pig ever! Today was my first visit to Amwell Pet Supply, and It was a very pleasant experience! I needed to purchase Fromm Dog Food for my dog, and upon searching for registered retailers on the Fromm website, Amwell Pet Supply came up. The small, privately owned shop is chock-full of ALL your pet needs (and wants)! A great selection of food and treats that are actually GOOD for your pet! I found what I needed easily, stopping every few moments to "talk" to a little friend on the way. There are a few kittens, cats, birds, guinea pigs, hamsters and fish on premise and you can see the owners love animals by how clean the cages are, and the little notes on the cages telling you a bit about each animal is an adorable touch! At checkout, the shop owner, Hope, was very kind, and helpful, not to mention extremely knowledgeable. She told me a bit about the brand of dog food I was purchasing and how she met the owner of the brand. She shared some information about the brand and it was very helpful to know! I shared that my dog was recently ill and how I suspected it was another brand of dog food and Hope helped me find out who made the other brand and gave me helpful advice on that as well! She shared information about the shop's customer loyalty card (spend $100 and get $5 off your next order) which is always great, and also shared with me a program that Fromm brand has that offers a free bag of food after your 12th bag as long as you collect the UPC codes. Saving money is always great and I truly appreciate Hope helping me to do just that! I am very happy to have found Amwell Pet Supply. I will be shopping here from now on! In a time of vanishing independent pet stores, we were so lucky to find Amwell Pet. The big box stores do not hire knowledgeable people and I take the care of my pets very seriously. I will never go anywhere else. I really needed help outfitting my dog with a harness. Shop owner Hope solved the problem. She answered all my questions about all pet related questions- I was even having trouble with my fish losing weight and she sold me a terrific food that I think saved there life. Thank you Hope. Full disclosure: I do know the owner. That being said, I had a wonderful business experience buying some lovely tags for my two Cavalier Spaniels as well as dog beds for my inn. The owner, Hope, talked me into the dog tags and I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived in the mail. They were well made and had a beautiful design - more like jewelry than a dog tag. Subsequently, I was having difficulty finding some well made, yet inexpensive, dog beds for my inn, which is pet friendly. Hope was again so helpful on the phone determining just what I needed and she sent me a box with about 6 different sizes. These beds are perfect and will hold up under frequent washing. But that's not all. The owner Hope, is a recently "retired" school teacher. She is now pursuing her life long dream of also working for animals and those who love them. She is a tireless advocate for animal welfare and volunteers huge amounts of time in rescuing and placing homeless cats. A part of the proceeds from her store go towards this cause. My husband and I were in the market to adopt a cat all while looking for bait to fish. My husband went in and I decided to stay in the car until he called me and expressed how beautiful this cat was. I walked in to see this cat whom I found gorgeous. We both realized the staff (who we didn't know were staff because they wore regular clothes) were just sitting and staring at us. They didn't offer help, or ask if we wanted anything. They just sat and stared. We expressed our intentions of adopting and we got one word answers. We then asked if they sold bait or knew of anyone in the area who sold it. The young girl passive aggressively told us to "Go home and dig worms out of your backyard "....like wtf ,who says something like that? This place left very bad taste in my mouth. My husband and I stumbled across this store after eating at the cafe next door. We had been in search of a full size antler bone for our German Shepherd. Many of the chain stores only carry the split ones and the prices can be astronomical. Not only did we find exactly what we needed, but the owner was so helpful and eager to help us with all of our questions regarding adoptions etc. I can't say enough nice things about the heart and genuineness of the women there. You can absolutely tell they truly care about the animals and what many people aren't aware of is she takes in many animals that people have neglected or previously adopted. I had been a regular at this store under the previous owner, however the service had gone way down, so I had switched to a chain. I just decided to try them out again under the new owners as I was looking for a local place to buy Orijen. While the store is packed to the gills and a bit claustrophobic, they had just about every product I looked for. The staff are the real stars though. They really care about animals and took the time to help me find the products that would be best for my cat. Someone in an earlier review mentioned concern over the care of the rescues present so I gave that extra attention on my visit. I was very impressed by the space and care given to the cats - not tiny flat cages, but multilevel with toys. They all looked clean and well cared for. read more

I created a new profile this past week however I have an old review on here from way back when! I read the post regarding the AC and how it was working the day another customer was in the store! I have to say it like I see it! This can not be true! Unless the AC decides what days to work and not to work! I re-visited the store this past week/weekend and it was hot as could be in there! They now have a big fan by the front door ( for the cats I would think) but was it even on? NOPE!!! I did see all the animals/fish marked "Not for Sale" I was able to make a note.... She (the owner) has three or more fish tanks marked not for sale! There is now a bird in the store marked not for sale and they have him in such a small cage its is crazy! I would think this would be inhuman but idk! I did some price matching and the whole comment about it Rams being a few cents more here and there is BS try a few dollars more! The best part is she is salting stuff she gets at other stores now. Stuff like Kirkland's baby wipes and dish soap! And if u price compare she is making 70% up mark!!! However, my son and his gf was able to get in to the store this week and get some video and photos for a inspector we are going to see the store is so full of stuff no one with a disability could safely get around! We did not get more than three min or so of footage before a guy (very rude) might I add told my son "you need to leave now" so we shall see what happens! I hope things get better! It could be a great store if they were made to clean it up and actually sale stuff and not mark it all not for sale!!! read more

Great place! Hope truly cares about animals!!! She has gotten many cats adopted into great homes by being a foster mom to them while they live at her store. So yesterday around 1pm I had to make a stop into the store to pick up a few things and was shocked to see what I had seen! :( The owner was at the store working and she had all the doors open to the store. Now first let me say with the back door being open in the back of the store I was able to see just how messy the back of the store is...and let me say it was a mess. But the thing that really got me was the fact that it was 90 degrees outside and this woman (who might I add works for a rescue group for cats) had all the doors open and the poor cats looked like they were so hot laying in their cages upfront of the store. (Talking about animal mis-treatment) WOW If I knew who to report this to you better bet I would do so! Also, let me make it known this woman (the owner "Hope" I think her name was) is so rude. She acts like she don't want to help anyone who does not buy something as soon as they walk in. The store has so much new products in it, however, she does not know how to put things on shelves. She has stuff thrown all over the store and the store looks like it was slapped together overnight. Anyhow, just wanted to speak my mind. Update: December 2016. I was in the store today picking out gifts for our little dog and a few other friends' pets. The store is jammed with all sorts of goodies and the owner and staff were friendly and helpful. I even bought some tree ornaments and a bracelet that will 100% benefit Capic Cat Rescue! Stopped by to pick up some hay for my guinea pig because this place just happened to be on the way and I must say, I was disappointed. The hay was browning, stale, dry, and clearly not fresh. This place is conveniently located near my vet's office, but I would recommend picking up fresh quality hay from the horse farm not a long distance away for a fraction of the price. I must also add that the poor guinea pig was kept in not-so-good condition. The poor thing couldn't even get water out of her bottle due to poor positioning and her nails were overgrown. As for the other animal products sold, I have no opinion but I will never come back here to buy anything for my guinea pig. read more

how is this store even still in business? went in to pick up some cat food and to look at the fish. many of the tanks are labeled not for sale, as well as animals. a cockatiel was there, attached to her cage was her story about how she was abandoned. and at the bottom it said not for sale. you can't use a store as an extension of your home collection of animals. by doing so, you deny the animal a stable life with a home and a loving family. take it home if it isn't for sale. there's a 40 gallon or so tank labeled "pond fish not for sale". the fish are huge and belong IN A POND. no amount of filtration in the world can handle the amount of waste that comes from 4 or 5, 6 inches or larger goldfish. i would be happy to give those fish a wonderful pond to live in, and pay the price they are worth. i hate seeing them like this. all the fish with the exception of maybe the mollies and guppies are in tanks that are way too small. also the store is very cluttered and hard to get around in. needs to be organized. i don't know the woman who owns the store, but i think she may be a hoarder. since i see posts from others about animals not being for sale. it's a real shame and something needs to be done about it. read more
