We prefer to support local retailers, and over the years, we have purchased several major appliances from Amundson since they opened in Chippewa Falls. Three years ago, we bought a KitchenAid dishwasher along with the extended warranty.
In mid-June, the dishwasher stopped working--it simply wouldn't wash. We promptly requested a service call.
About a week and a half later, the first service visit was completed. The technician was courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. He diagnosed the issue and ordered a new pump and computer board, explaining that once the parts arrived, they would return to complete the repair.
We waited two more weeks for the parts to arrive. Amundson called to schedule the follow-up, and the technician replaced the components. Unfortunately, the dishwasher still didn't work. It was determined that the replacement pump was faulty, and a second one was ordered.
That took another two and a half weeks to arrive and be installed.
Again, the dishwasher didn't work.
The technician then ordered a complete bottom assembly unit--including a new pump--in an attempt to rule out all possible issues. That took an additional three weeks to arrive.
The same technician returned to install the replacement assembly. Still, no success. He threw up his hands and admitted he had no idea what else to do. He deemed the dishwasher non-repairable.
Amundson and the warranty company explained we would have three options:
1. A payout for the defective unit
2. A replacement KitchenAid dishwasher
3. A store credit to purchase a different dishwasher
Then... silence. Three more weeks passed with no communication.
When I followed up with Amundson, I was told it was up to the warranty company. The warranty company, however, told me it was Amundson's decision. A frustrating runaround.
Throughout this entire process, the warranty company--Leaf Guard--was consistently proactive, courteous, and informative. In contrast, communication with Amundson was difficult. When I called, I spoke with Karen, who was often short with me and even hung up once. At various times, she claimed the person handling my case was either "working on it" or "out sick," or said she hadn't yet read the warranty company's email.
Eventually, the warranty company informed me that Amundson had chosen to issue a store credit. I requested the warranty company to instead issue a check, as I no longer wished to do business with Amundson.
To be clear, Amundson's technicians were excellent--professional and skilled. The same goes for the warranty company.
But a $900 dishwasher that fails after just three years, combined with over three months of delays, miscommunication, and frustration, has led us to a final decision:
We will not recommend or purchase anything from Amundson again.
