Great experience. Nice station, very clean inside. The little one wanted to ride the train so we got a sleeper car from Winter Park and took it up north. Smooth transition on and off the train although I think they need to make their platforms a lot longer. Especially if you're gonna have people that have to get on and off away from the actual station. that's a little weird to me especially if the weather is bad. Otherwise, be ready to get on the train and be on time. They only stopped for a few seconds then they pull off. They will leave you lol. read more

Was up for some adventure and decided to take the train back from Alexandria to here in Winter Park. Was fun. Easy on, easy off. Had some concerns about an accident on the rails up ahead but between calling customer service and announcements, they were allayed. We were actually on time and the way Amtrak handled it was very professional ...except some brusk ticket checker who poked me awake at 3:30am to tell me I was in the wrong seat and question my destination until I set her straight. She went on to harass some others too. Enough, In fact, to bring the car up to a boil - people were getting very mad with her then arguing with each other. Withstanding the fracas, everyone else from Amtrak was friendly and helpful. She needs to go. Oversized seats were comfortable enough with a good bit of recline, leg bolsters, and foot rests. Was able to doze off enough to get some good sleep. There's two outlets so you can power up whatever. There's a lounge car with drinks and snacks and a good bit of seating. Was open early and closed up pretty late, 10:30; I think it was. Was basically no wifi to speak of. Had intermittent connectivity problems throughout the trip, except when we were nearer other Amtrak trains at stops. Bathrooms were clean and large enough; well stocked with cleaners and cleansers too. Was a long trip and was happy to bounce when my stop came, that's for sure. Rail's a great way to go, still relevant, and I think probably ideal for trips of about six hours or less unless you really just like the experience of it. Surely was easier and more comfortable than other ways to get you around. It just took longer. Orlando to Savannah would make a great trip. read more

First time taking the Amtrak and had an amazing experience with this location. The staff there was very informative and help my family to know where to go and best way to check luggage and park our vehicle. It was a busy day since the Winter Park Art Festival was going on at the same time and there were multiple people there for the SunRail as well. They were quite busy helping the Amtrack and getting people to the SunRail representatives to assist with those questions. We saw the same employees when we returned and she asked us all about our trip and immediately helped us with our luggage and got us on our way. read more

I travel by train several times a year and usually take the train out of Winter Park. It is much smaller than the Orlando station and usually easier to get in and out of. The head station masters name is John and he is super helpful and super friendly. If you are traveling I highly recommend Amtrak. In my opinion it is the best way to travel. It is faster or equal to driving and if you book in advance is much cheaper than flying. Be sure to arrive a little bit early if you are going to check your bags. If you are in a sleeping car you will definitely want to check your larger bags so you have more room in your cabin. Most trains run on time (or pretty close to it) but occasionally they can run late. Usually it is not more than an hour but it does happen. According to Amtrak's website about 75% of all trains into Winter Park arrive withing 30 mins of their posted schedule. A little word to the wise for those Traveling to Tampa. A typical one way ticket from Orlando to Tampa starts at $12 as apposed to $16 from WPK. If you don't mind the 10 min drive to the Orlando station you can save $8 round trip! read more

So many questions, so many issues. Train was to depart Winter Park Monday morning and was already delayed for more than two hours due to an incident earlier on its route. Another incident, a derailment, was already known ahead on its route. Passengers were told that there would likely be delays getting to Tampa due to that derailment. That was before noon. Why not go ahead and explore other options for the passengers? We could have taken a bus or rented a car or perhaps waited to travel another day? Instead we were boarded. Stop was made at the Orlando station. Then just before arriving at the Kissimmee station we were warned if we did not leave the train at that point we could not leave the train. And we were told the train would likely be sitting on the track for hours while CSX worked on clearing the track ahead. I scrambled to search for what I could do to get out of Kissimmee but the station came and went before I could get a good look at my options. Why not share with passengers if a bus station was close by and if a bus to Tampa could be boarded that day? Oddly at one point it was suggested by an Amtrak employee I go to the Orlando airport to rent a car which really made no sense. Turns out the derailment was so bad that part of the track was damaged. This was clearly not a matter of clearing the track. At 7 p.m. we were told the train was going nowhere and that there had been an effort made to call around for a bus but none were available. That call for a bus should have happened that morning and then maybe one could have been found. Ended up taking a Lyft for the 72-mile trip to Tampa. Bad service, bad judgment and bad experience. The reason for my return to Tampa? Family member was taken to the ER Sunday evening so my travel plans were cancelled and I was heading home and to the hospital. I really was in no condition to drive. Turns out I was in no condition to be stuck on a train the better part of the day. read more

Not all, but MOST, Amtrak delays are NOT the fault of Amtrak, but CSX, the freight company that OWNS the train tracks and LEASES them to Amtrak. CSX is RESPONSIBLE for the UPKEEP, MAINTENANCE, and SAFETY of the rails. If CSX is running behind schedule or having rail or equipment problems, the majority of the time, Amtrak suffers the consequences: Passenger trains must yield, whether than means pulling to a side rail and to wait for a delayed CSX train to make way, or being stopped dead because a bridge is out or flooded (none of which are Amtrak's responsibility). Delays, especially protracted ones, can be stressful, upsetting, and frustrating, especially if it is emergency travel for a passenger, so perhaps this info can diminish the anger, if not the angst, of the situation. However, there are people who board a train and complain about every last thing, and if a situation happens to already be frustrating you are exacerbating the problem. Had a fairly negative experience. I arrived about 5 minutes before my train was set to depart. I went to the "south" track, as I was heading south. A train pulled into the north track and I tried to find an employee to ask whether it was my train on a different track. There was no one behind the counter or in the station at all that I could find. Another woman was trying to find out the same information, so I wasn't the only one confused. I finally, out of desperation, ran AROUND the stopped train via the closed car roadway (since there was no way to cross to the proper track safely once the train was in, as there is no tunnel or bridge over) to try to find out whether it was the train I needed, but right after I crossed over the train started moving. Turns out the south bound train was on the north track, and I missed my train despite being at the station in time. The station master, when I finally found him and spoke to him, said the "north" and "south" signs only refer to sun rail trains, not Amtrak. How is anyone supposed to know that who doesn't take the train frequently? He also made no apologies for there being no staff at the counter, therefore making it impossible to find out what the train was. I ended up spending another $60 in cab fare to get to a megabus station and then paying for a megabus ticket. It was very frustrating and expensive. Several women at the station were sympathetic as they had seen me trying to find out whether the train in the station was mine, but the station master, while polite, basically deflected any responsibility the station had for being unclear/unhelpful. There were NO signs letting anyone know that the train in the station was the Miami bound, and any announcements that were made must have been made at least 5 minutes prior to the train departing. read more

I will never take the train from winter park. The agent was rude and due to her negligence by telling me to stand in the wrong area caused me to miss my train. I tried to reach out to customer service for a refund I waited on hold for 40 mins then chose to receive a call back which took 2 hours once the Customer service rep got on the phone she states oh I can't help you, you will have to be transferred so now on hold again. I guess they don't care about their customers so I will share my bad experience to everyone I know. Amtrak is not the way to travel! read more

Love this place. Love bringing people in on the train. Head right across the street and do drinks and dinner. If you're a gambler, take it over to Tampa because Hard Rock is not that far away and it's really cheap. Took the train down to West Palm Beach and it's just so much fun to not drive and have someone pick you up the station. IMO, so much better than airline travel. But you simply can't beat the Winter Park train station. Right across the street from Park Avenue in a great area. read more

Well let just begin by telling you it took me almost 6 hours to get from Winter Park, FL to Sebring, FL which I was suppose to get off at Hollywood but could not take being on the train for another 3 hours so I got off at Sebring...REALLY??? Its only a 2 hour drive by car.... The train had some kind of signal system problems due to weather... So we literally stopped 3 times for about 20-30 minutes each time in the middle of nowhere and we were going about 10 miles an hour for a lot of the train ride.... I asked the employees on the train if this type of delay is normal and they told me yes...YIKES!!! It was the train ride that never ended!!!!! I think if it hadn't had all those problems it could have been enjoyable...nice comfy seating with plenty of room, nice and clean....maybe once I forget how bad the delay was ill try again... ;) read more

I just had a horrible experience with one of the station workers at the Winter Park Station while trying to board the Amtrak train today at 12:26 to WPB. He was rude, without any kind of empathy and basically looked for a reason to not let me on the train until he was successful. First it was that I did not sign a paper, then was that I needed to pay the extra fee for traveling with a dog, and then finally the fact that I had two dogs in a small soft carrier. All this interaction happened in the 5 minutes that the train rolled into the station. I was frantically trying to comply with his every request. I had cash and was ready to pay the fee without hesitation, and would've done so previously but I had not seen that fee online. It seemed that he took great pleasure in making me miss my train and even publicly disparaged me for bringing my dogs and seeming me inconsiderate of peoples' allergies. He commented as such loud enough for all the other passengers to hear. He only showed his ignorance because most educated people know that poodles are hypoallergenic and do not cause allergies. What's so infuriating is he had seen me and my dogs waiting a half an hour before the train arrived and didn't mention anything to me. It was my first attempt to travel on Amtrak and I had looked online for pet travel restrictions. From my understanding I was allowed to use one soft pet carrier and have a pet under 20 lbs. Both my dogs were small enough to fit in my small 12" by 12" by 15" soft carrier. They certainly did not weigh more than 20 lbs altogether. While there was a much younger gentleman station worker who was kind and explained to me the "one person per dog" rule which I did not encounter previously in my online research, I was only met with sneering and condescending tones by the older male station worker and the female conductor of the train. I was so taken aback that I literally went home and cried for an hour. Not just because this was an important trip but because I couldn't, and still can't understand how human beings could be so cruel to someone. I was so distraught that I did not have the wherewithal to get his name but I will certainly go back and file a formal complaint. In contrast, the younger gentleman deserves a commendation for being sensitive to how stressful the situation was for me. I did get reimbursed for my ticket but not the $12 in Uber money it took me to get to the station and back. Now to drive 3 hours unexpectedly. Never again Amtrak! read more
