Saw there was a LADOT DASH bus waiting at the train station, which runs every 15 minutes around Reseda. No WiFi access is available on any Metrolink trains while the Amtrak has it for Business Class seats. Beginning July 1, 2025, you can buy a day pass ticket for unlimited travel across all Metrolink lines at $15 weekdays, $10 weekends! Note: Be careful, please check the Metrolink schedule to see whether the trip is worth your time for waiting at the Union Station for nearly two hours on the way back to the Northridge Station. For example , when I arrived at the Union Station at 2:45 PM, I found the next available train to the Northridge is at 4:30 PM. That's a challenge from LA Metro and Metrolink to attract more riders to take a public transit, instead of driving.

The station itself is fine. There's shade and plenty of parking. The issue is the surrounding area…read moreand getting here without a car (or subsequently by bus). Parthenia Blvd has NO BIKE LANES. Tampa Blvd past Nordoff has NO BIKE LANES. Reseda Blvd has a guarded bike lane. Parthenia Blvd is aligned with a row of industrial buildings, a lumber yard and mechanic shops. The sidewalks are narrow and every driveway is a an alarming blind spot blocked by buildings and entry gates. There is no safe way to get to the Northridge Metrolink by bicycle. You're either competing with traffic along Parthenia, where cars are speeding down the stretch or risking getting hit by a vehicle pulling out from a drive way that has a building blocking the view until they reach the sidewalk. Often there is a truck blocking the right of way along the sidewalk. Several curbs have no ramps as ADA compliant laws have established since 1990, requiring accessible public sidewalks. So if you're okay bicycle or wheelchair, you are forced into traffic to get across the street. It's seriously dangerous and the city needs to build a bridge directly above the train station, providing an access point that isn't a half a mile away.

I got a ride to the Moorpark station, it is very easy to find, well marked and good signage from the 118 (Los Angeles Avenue). Lots of parking, but not much shade here. This station is not designed to protect you from either the sun or rain, so be prepared. They have vending machines here where you can purchase your ticket using either a credit card or cash. The AMTRAK train also stops here. I took the Metrolink straight to the Burbank Airport. The train had 4 cars, one car is designed and marked for bicycles, so it is easy to transport a bike here. The train was very clean, even had bathrooms! they are double decker trains and wheelchair friendly. I sat on the upper level and had a great view! The trip was smooth, fast and fairly quiet. I think it took about 30 minutes to Burbank. Each stop is fairly short so you have to be prepared to disembark at your station. The cars are air conditioned. The cost of my trip was $4.75!! can't beat that! The stop at the Burbank airport is right across the street from the rental car agencies. There were 2 vans waiting at the station to transport people to the airport so it is super easy to get straight to the airport. From Thousand Oaks there are free shuttles available that take you to the Moorpark station. They pick up at the Oaks Mall, Cal Lutheran, and a few other places, check TOT.org - not sure about the website. (Thousand Oaks Transit) for more information.

What have we learned today, kids? A few things:…read more 1. Get to the station well ahead of time, especially when it's the first work day of the month and you need a round trip ticket. And no, if you thought 11 minutes was early enough, think again because there are powers beyond your control that brings me to.... 2. People in Newhall....well maybe not all people...but maybe all commuters taking the Metrolink in Newhall are cold hearted people that will crowd you in line when they hear the bells go off for their train. The lines are long when you get to a Metrolink station on the first of the month. This is something that Metrolink (even with an increased surge of ridership because of gas prices) has never gotten right. Stations need more kiosks for ticketing. But, I digress. It was the usual long lines today, but I arrived early enough and realized that though I was #5 in line, I would be fine. But then, kiosk #2 stopped accepting CCs. The ensuing panic was felt by everyone in line...including me. But I was in good spirits..because at this point I was next. Or.....maybe not, as soon as the customer ahead of me left the kiosk, some jackass crowds in front of me to grab his ticket. Not even an acknowledgement that this grown man has reacted like some idiot 8th grader wanting to get first in line for the French fries. Ugh. And that's not the half, with the realization of the impending missing of ones train, people got into a frenzy. Every man for himself. Nuts. Most people in line just hopped onto the train without tickets. I guess because Metrolink rarely checks tickets anyway. I didn't want to risk it. I finally got my ticket as I waved goodbye to the conductor on my train. Oh, and if you thought you can just quickly get a refund instead of taking the train...think again. It's not guaranteed. Never has been. Once you get your ticket...you're committed.
