The good : the collection is world class , the narrative by Ben was excellent . The location is convenient and we were the the only two guests. The retail briar collection was also excellent . It was cash only, and the "city card " we had purchased as tourists in Holland indicated that this museum was an included item, upon arrival we were told it was not , and we were required to pay an admission fee., on top of what we had paid for the card . We were not offered a seniors discount. The pipe I found on the website that interested me was no longer in stock . It is 2026 , if you are operating a retail operation, it needs to have a cashless option. I would have made a purchase if I was given a cashless option . read more

Compact Convenient Charming After visiting, I felt a need to amplify the great reviews this museum received. My family and I toured this magnificent (single-owner!) collection and thoroughly enjoyed the walk through history it represented, all housed in a historical home. Ben was our guide, and his narration and answers to our questions brought the assortment to life. Funerary, wedding, ceremonial, personal pipes and accoutrements are arranged by era and provenance, from clay and briar and meerschaum to less standard materials, and even a display related to opium. The place is tidily packed into a second floor and took no more than about half an hour to review - but the rarity of the items, the uniqueness of a collection like this in one place, and the personal nature of the tour made it entirely worthwhile and memorable. DO NOT GO HERE. The absolute WORST experience of my life. I was with a group of 10 people who were quiet and respectful. Everyone was very excited to pay to go to the museum as well as purchase multiple pipes. I took my phone out to take a picture and the owner SNAPPED at me. I was shocked but just thought he was having a bad day. Then my friend who didn't hear not to take photos took her phone out to snap, innocently, and he literally SCREAMED at her and started calling her names and told her to "GET OUT". And she apologized and he mocked her in a child's voice and told her to "GET OUT" once again. We of course all said we're leaving and he's not getting business from us and as we were leaving he was actually insulting us and yelling as we walked out. It was INSANE. I've never been treated so poorly in my life. Out of principle, don't give this jerk your money. read more

What a little gem of a museum this is, in the midst of all the museums in Amsterdam. There are quite a few museums in Amsterdam situated inside Canal houses, but which of them offers you a personal guided tour by the museum curator in an empty museum? Pipes and smoking related implements from across centuries and continents in a preserved canal house is what you can look forward to here. And an enlightening discourse on the history and trends in smoking. I sure did feel like Royalty on this completely personalised visit. My questions were patiently answered and I ended up having a great conversation with the curator and the 2 guys who run the smoking related curiosities shop downstairs. read more

This is such an adorable and unique little museum! The museum contains thousands of pipes spanning ancient times to present day and many cultures - Chinese, African, Japanese, European (huge collection of French pipes), and has a very nice gentleman who gives very detailed tours on the history of the pipe and how it evolved in different cultures. The museum is quite inexpensive and really not something you get to see every day - well worth visiting!! read more

My boyfriend and I came to spend a week in Amsterdam and found ourselves wandering the streets on our last day and bumped into this quaint little pipe shop- we were offered a tour of the museum with Benedict and we LOOVED IT! He had stories about every piece, and was so pleasant to be around. I'm not a history fanatic or a pipe smoker but i would be back just for the sweet historical atmosphere. Came in to the shop to look at pipes and didn't last more than 30 seconds. The shop owner asked if we needed help and when we said "no thank you we are just looking" he screamed at us to get out! We said "uhh okay" in confusion and he actually mocked us in a child's voice as we left. Super confused what happened. Would not recommend this place. read more

This is a great little Museum for anyone who's interested in the history of pipes or even if you are not. In a very popular part of town. they accept " I am sterdam" card for free entry. If you only look through the window you do not see the upstairs area you must ask about it don't just walk in and walk out. read more
