Beware this so called autocentre! The Manager (I'll call him K for this review as I've been asked to remove his full name) of the Exeter branch is an arrogant bully who likes to threaten old folk! What should have been a simple alternator replacement on a campervan resulted in me breaking down twice and being without transport over the christmas period. First they fitted the wrong alternator, DESPITE me trying to tell K it was wrong he wouldn't listen. Sure enough the main and leisure batteries went flat within 24 hours! The following day I returned to AMS thinking it would be a priority for them to correct their mistake, no such luck I was put to the back of the queue and had to hang around the garage most of the day. Good service? I don't think so. AMS states on there website "We do it ONCE because we do it right first time. NO YOU DON'T! Finally the correct alternator was fitted and I was on my way.I got 15 miles up the road before the alternator belt shredded itself and wrapped around the back of the pulley. AA arrived and vehicle was returned to AMS and left on their forecourt as they had just closed for christmas, leaving me stranded in Exeter. When they reopened I called K only to be told it's not their problem and if I wanted it put right I'd have to pay again or get it off their forecourt! I had no choice but to pay again. When I collected vehicle and complained about the service I was dragged out of the waiting room and threatened with assault by K. K is a fit 30ish yr old and I am an old guy of 62 with severe spinal injuries. I also tried to complain to the AMS group owner, (K's father), he refused to come to the phone. Utter ripoff scum and bullies the pair of them. UPDATE - I see K has responded so here is my reply to him - Every word of my review is the truth K, you know it and I know it. If you had behaved professionally this review would not exist! Yes you ARE polite and helpful when you take on a job, but the true measure of a manager is how they behave when problems arise or they mess up the job. The way you handled it was APPALLING, you denied ALL responsibility and threatened violence. I'm twice your age, so your disrespectful and sneering comment below of "silly boy" just demonstrates your complete arrogance when questioned. I came to you for a simple alternator change, a half hour job (I've done it myself in the past on the same vehicle with no problems) yet when you, the so called "professional" does it I break down twice and am stuck without a vehicle over christmas?? Sensible people only have to look at all the negative reviews of AMS to realise who is telling the truth. You messed up the job, threatened to assault me and ruined my christmas as I had no vehicle with which to visit relatives. Very bad attitude form staff at the Torquay branch. The workshop was empty and three staff were stood talking behind the counter when I arrived. I asked If a tyre was in stock, and was told it was however, it couldn't be sold to me as it was not booked onto their system. I asked if a note of the tyre could be made for there future reference and was told a resounding no. I went to Ray at Wheelpower who was courteous and accommodating. He had the new tyre fitted and balanced in 15 mins, I also saved £10. I have been a customer of Steve's at AMS since he opened his first site. In the early days customer service was very good, unfortunately this is simply not true at the Torquay site. I would suggest immediate intervention as the reputation you worked so hard to achieve is rapidly disappearing. read more

Ams tyres looked after my car very well great price on tyres much cheaper than any one else,tracking machine was very good and my car drives so much better staff was very helpfull,workshop was very clean and tidy.they swaped my tyres around did all my tyre pressures checked my brakes for me at the same time much better than other garges I have been to will defo be going back for mot as they are doing them free with a full service or half price if u look on there website which is very helpfull don't know what all the bad reviews are about think some people make up crap and have nothing else better to do other than slag people off shame really read more

Has anyone else had a problem with AMS like this? Quoted me just under a hundred quid for two front tyres and tracking..when I went back they started telling me about about steering and suspension and it wouldn't be ready for three hours. In the meantime I rang the garage that had recently MOT'd my car and they told me NO WAY! Don't authorise any work....too late....when I go back the bill is now £327+ and they don't have the parts for me to get them looked at! Wouldn't let me take the car without payment in full....BE CAREFUL !!!!! read more

Dear Sir/Madam I took my car into AMS to have two rear tyres changed which i thought might need changing,i was informed by Luke that they had plenty of tread on them and did not require changing but there were two nails in one so a puncture repair was required.I was very impressed by the honesty and integrity of both Luke & Andy and i shall be using AMS from now on and would like to recommend them to everyone else. read more

Do NOT, repeat do NOT use AMS tyres in Paignton. I can almost guarantee that the staff (i think they're on commission) will try to get you to have work done, or tyres replaced etc that you haven't even asked them to look at. Don't believe me? put my car in to have the tracking done got told the work was going to cost £30,upon collecting the car,bill was £115. rude and unhelpful person in charge over staff where fine, use ats two doors up,100% better service cheaper and they have a after sales service can`t speak for the paignton or newton abbot branches if its anything like the torquay branch forget it read more

Had no problems don't know what all the fuss is about had a full service done prices was good no big bills or story's like other people say on here think they must be on drugs or making it up The guys down at Ams was spot on and helpfull give them ago and try it for yourself they saved me a few quid compared to kiwck fit,ats,national tyres read more

Poor service rude staff ie manager over charged wont go back the highlight for me was to watch on there cctv camera the so calledmanagerwalk out into the workshop and punch another member of staff in the head and a mass brawl in the workshop this was broken up by others nice show of respect to staff not very nice 1 star for entertainment read more

went in there today with a puncture sure they tried to sell me a new tyre cause it couldn't be repaired usual story,my tyres are only a week old. well im not shedding out for new and asked them to put my spare on of which they would and guess what they charged me a fiver to do that, tossers read more

well after having kwik fit and ats tyres do the tracking on my car none of them got it wright . i was then told to take it ams tyres torquay wow what a tracking machine they have got it well sorted well good staff .drives like new again will always go there from now on much cheeper cheers read more

slid into curb on way to work damaged both n/s tyres,called into ams at 8.10 and was back on the road by 8.30.super service considering they dont open until 8.30 and fab price would defo recommend and still got to work on time read more

Unsure about the Torquay one, however the Paignton branch is usually brilliant especially Carl who is very knowledgeable and helpful. Good value and highly recommend to all. read more
