He has the latest technology, he has multiple offices, and all of my interactions with him have been very positive. He is very firmly in command in the operating room, I was always extremely comfortable with his technical abilities, attention to detail, and professionalism. He is hands down, a great Doctor, and fantastic at what he does. I would imagine he was at the top of his class(s), I would bet money on that. I always felt comfortable with Dr Chow right from the beginning, and that feeling was only reinforced stronger with each visit. The room I was taken to was clean and quiet. The medical assistant who brought me in was friendly and asked the usual health history and current concerns. The doctor showed up a few minutes later and seemed pretty focused. We went over what had been bothering me and they took the time to discuss possible causes and made sure to cover some things in detail. They did a couple checks and asked some follow up stuff which helped me feel like they weren't just guessing or rushing. They didn't try to push anything unnecessary and actually explained what they were thinking step by step. I felt like they knew their field and were confident in their recommendations. Overall it was a good balance of professional and approachable. Nothing fancy but reliable.

I need to tell everyone just how special Dr Engelman is…read more In October of 2014 (I was 69 at the time), Dr Engelman did my 2nd glaucoma surgery - this one on my left eye. A couple of days after the surgery, I woke up around 1:30 AM and noticed that I could not really see anything out of my left eye - everything looked 'very cloudy'. I called his emergency number and explained what was going on. The lady I talked to put me on hold. About 2 minutes later, Dr Engelman was on the phone. He asked me what I was experiencing. I described my symptoms and he said "Meet me in my office as soon as you can get there." We got there around 2:30 AM. Dr Engelman was there waiting for us. He measured the pressure in my left eye. It was down to 2. I had good reason to be scared. He told me that everything looked OK and that the pressure would come back up. I went home and by midday everything was OK. So if you take Dr Engelman as your Ophthalmologist, I am quite sure that is the kind of service you will get. I am now 80. I do not live in California anymore as we moved to Arizona in 2016. My eye pressures were between 20 to 26 when I went to Dr Engelman. For the past 11+ years they have been a consistent 10 to 11. I've had some very good doctors in my lifetime. As an artist, my eyes are especially important to me. But before undergoing cataract surgery, I…read moredidn't really dare, or even want to call myself an artist. My severe nearsightedness and astigmatism kept getting worse, and I was seeing less and less clearly. I blamed it on a lack of talent, thinking this was simply the limit of what I could ever become. Through a friend's recommendation, I met Dr. George Yang. After a thorough examination, Dr. Yang confirmed that the only way to improve my condition was through cataract surgery. Even then, I still had many doubts. Surgery is an invasive treatment, and I was afraid that if it failed, the rest of my life would become very difficult. Whenever I hesitated and couldn't make up my mind, he patiently returned my phone calls and answered all of my questions without irritation. Eventually, I overcame my fears and decided to move forward with the surgery. Following Dr. Yang's recommendation, I chose a special lens that had been introduced at his clinic about a year earlier -- one that allows the prescription to be adjusted up to three times after surgery using light treatments. The surgeries went very smoothly: first my right eye, then my left eye two weeks later. I chose distance vision correction for both eyes. The surgeries were performed at Peninsula Eye Surgery Center, where the medical staff took wonderful care of me. After the surgeries, Dr. Yang examined my eyes again and again to determine when my vision had stabilized enough for the light adjustments. During the process, he also helped me decide to have my weaker eye assist more with near vision while my stronger eye focused on distance vision. He prescribed Xiidra eye drops to stimulate tear production so that the measurements of my vision would not be distorted by dry eyes. I could truly feel how seriously Dr. Yang took my treatment. He never rushed through the three light-adjustment sessions simply to complete my case. On the contrary, because there are only three opportunities for light treatment and the benefit becomes limited afterward, he used each session very carefully. If the measurement on a given day differed significantly from the previous visit, he would ask me to continue using the eye drops and wait until my prescription stabilized before proceeding with another adjustment. This process stretched over more than a year, and I am deeply grateful for the professionalism, compassion, and patience Dr. Yang demonstrated throughout my treatment. Now, I have recovered very well and can see clearly again. I can drive without glasses, and if the print is not too small, I can even read without reading glasses. Best of all, when I paint, I can finally distinguish subtle variations in color. I used to think my abilities were lacking, but now I realize there were many things I simply could not see before. Now that I can truly see, I also feel more confident in myself. I introduce myself as an artist, because I finally believe I can achieve a certain artistic standard. I am deeply thankful to Dr. Yang for giving me a brighter future and a better quality of life.

I had an extremely frustrating and unprofessional experience with the receptionist, Jen. When I…read moreasked to speak with a manager to escalate a concern, she repeatedly disconnected my calls instead of assisting me. Jen was extremely rude and acted as though the clinic's main phone number was her personal number and she could simply decide whether or not a patient was allowed to escalate a concern. I repeatedly requested the manager's email address or another way to contact management, and she refused to provide either and continued hanging up on me. A receptionist's job is to assist patients and facilitate communication with the appropriate staff--not prevent patients from reaching management when they have a legitimate concern. Repeatedly disconnecting calls because a patient is asking to escalate an issue is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Spectrum Eye Physicians should seriously review how escalation requests are being handled at the front desk and Jen's conduct toward patients.
