My 14 year-old GE microwave was/is on the fritz. The light on the display would go out a few times per day. Sometimes we'd have to unplug the unit and then replug it in to get it to work at all. I called GE and they said it could not be fixed, mostly because there were no longer parts available for the unit. I have used AMPM in the past for oven repair and other jobs so I gave it a shot and gave them a call. Jason said they might be able to fix it and had Kevin come to check it out. Kevin arrived and told me what it might cost to fix it - IF they could find parts that would work. He then suggested that I might want to be grateful for all the years I got from the unit and just consider purchasing a new microwave. Besides being extraordinarily honest, Kevin did not charge me for the visit/estimate. (He also gave me good advice on my Refrigerator/Freezer.) So he went away and I got a call from Jason, who laid out my options and allowed me a few days to think it over. Very good communication and was able to schedule something same day to diagnose the noise coming from my washing machine. The technician was prompt and straightforward about what the problem was and didn't try upselling a repair. Not their fault They did what they could and charged me 55.00 dollars and said they would apply that to cost for revisit.
