After my initial poor review and non communication from this organization, I was contacted by Doug…read moreSmith, their Outreach and Development manager. I am happy to say he offered me a tour of their facility on E North Ave and answered my questions, and most importantly, assured me they do visit areas and people we call into the mission about whom we feel need a visit and helping hand. He gave me business cards to hand out to homeless I see in the downtown area while at or on the way to work. He showed me the kitchen and dining areas, the dorm like setting with bunkbeds in the basement and the chapel area. He told me breakfast and dinner is offered to anyone and they work closely with other organizations to provide the homeless with services they might need. Also, some of what this organization offers include a women's and children's program that is pretty comprehensive with help with housing, transportation, child care, meals, addiction recovery, training needs. They also have a men's residential program for those needing help with mental issues, poverty, addiction, homelessness. They have an emergency shelter program for men. What's more is that Doug's interaction with others at the facility was genuine and warm. So many came up to him or he came up to them and he always introduced me to everyone. Another gentleman, Dean Robinson, their Street Outreach Specialist, was so warm and personable, and was especially helpful in allaying my concerns that the homeless had a face, a name, a personal story and that outreach visits were to people and not just sweeps of homeless tent communities. I came away with an appreciation of their services and will be supporting them financially, donating items where I can, and handing out their cards to those who could use a helping handful in life.

The family wanted to paddle board so I called to reserve 3, my husband kayaks and my 2 kids and I…read morepaddle board. I was told they take no reservations over the phone. It's a cash only business. However, I was told they had 5-6 available, so we rushed straight there. When we got there we were told there was only 1 paddle board. We reluctantly rented a hydrobike, a paddleboard and 2 kayaks. I didn't want to waste my money to pay for something we didn't want, and my kids were disappointed, but if they only had 1, what else could we do after driving the whole way there and only having a couple hour window to spend together before my oldest had to work? I asked to be put on a waitlist for one and the lady literally said, "Well, I guess I could start one, but you would have to be up here to get it." So I asked if one came in, could we be first in line and she said yes. I then watched one come in, so I gave her the kayak chip and asked to exchange it for a paddle board chip, but she said that the paddle boarder had to pay first. With time ticking on our rentals we waited for her to come up and pay and then watched her leave. Afterward, I was told that there was still no paddle board available. So we gave up and walked down to the dock and I explained that we had a chip for a hydrobike, a paddleboard, and 2 kayaks but that we wanted another paddleboard or 2, and pointed to the pile of them laying there. The dock worker assured me that they had 4 available and as we were talking another came in. He walked up with me to the table where you get the chips and they told him that the paperwork showed that there were none available, and so we couldn't get one. Seriously? We went back down to the dock and one of the guys got 2 paddle boards out for us, but then saw the chips we had and put one back. I asked if we could keep it since there were plenty available and one of the employees yelled at me and said that there must be people waiting for them or they would've given us a chip for one. There were 5 paddleboards, no one waiting but us since she had no wait list and didn't start one but told us we could have one if one came in. We never did get another paddle board and our hour was cut short as we waited for them. This place is incompetently and poorly run, and they didn't even try to remedy our situation by physically looking to see that there were boards available. How hard is that? Common sense is not strong with these folks! We received no apology and no extra time on our rental. On a rare occasion when I had my kids available together on a beautiful day and we all wanted to have fun paddle boarding together, we couldn't because the paperwork said that none were available, even though there were 5! You can't make this stuff up!!!

They gave my son so many perks for his birthday & spent a lot of their time teaching him. Every staff member and player were absolutely wonderful to him! My son wants to add to this review himself because his experience was so great... The staff are soo nice they were giving me stuff for my birthday and I was worried at first because I never played but these guys were really nice and told me to follow them and they will protect me. The players and staff are both so nice. One of the cashiers gave me about 20 coupons and a patch and her husband plays and gives tips and he lent me a gas pistol, very effective . The prices are very good compared to other airsoft arena prices. I just can't say how nice the players and staff are if your going to go to an airsoft arena go to this one!!! On Wednesdays they have 12 and under all day for young players! Of course I went on my birthday (Sunday). And you can get all the gear such as gloves vests masks armor bb's and guns for very cheap prices and they are high quality and they have a shop in the briefing/ loading in between matches! If your going to a airsoft area a please go to this one!!! It's a indoor arena and it's very nice the max fps is 350 and that doesn't hurt ALOT so it's nice. And you can bring your own gun as long as it's 350 fps or under and semi-auto. That's all I have to say thanks!!! And thanks for such a great awesome time Steel City!!!
