Instead of treating my wife with dignity and understanding her rights as a person with a disability accompanied by a service animal, the situation was handled in a way that made her feel singled out, embarrassed, and unwelcome. What made the experience even worse was the way the doctor communicated with us. We felt the conversation was manipulative and dismissive, and when we tried to explain our concerns and my wife's ADA rights, we felt like the situation was being twisted around rather than addressed professionally. A medical office should understand the basic rules surrounding service animals and the ADA. People with disabilities should not have to argue for basic respect and equal access simply because someone has an issue with the breed of their trained service dog. We left feeling disrespected and extremely disappointed. I strongly encourage this office and its staff to educate themselves on service-animal laws and how to appropriately treat patients with disabilities. No patient should be made to feel this way while seeking medical care.

He said the schedule was full and would fit her in. Once she was there Dr. Goyal had to pull her tooth and do a filling in the back! We have always used his big Sister as a model, but he would NEVER sit in the chair. We just moved to Brentwood and Dr. Goyle was recommended to us. I arrived at the appointment and expected it to go like it had at every other dentist appt. with my son refusing to sit in the chair, being charge for cleaning when it never really happened. My son has Down Syndrome and Dr. Goyle was wonderful with him, still don't know how it happened, but he got him to sit in the chair, cleaned his teeth and even managed to get X-Rays. First time ever in 9 years! My son now wants to go back and "try it again". Thanks Dr. Goyle never thought I'd see the day. Highly recommend this dentist for any child. Dr. Shelby had us come to her office for a quick consultation prior to starting services. Parents with children on the spectrum, (particularly on the higher needs end) know how anxiety inducing these appointments can be. I was a giant ball of unhopeful nerves. Praying my son would not be judged, or become too difficult to be helped. A staff member came in to assist/keep an eye on him for the duration of the consultation. My son jumping into this woman's arms at one point, and yet she showed no irritation, and reassured me as I apologized repeatedly. Maybe it was written on my face, maybe she is a part time mind reader, but Dr. Shelby sat me down in that office, looked me in the eye and assured me everything was okay, and my child would not be judged there. Embarrassingly enough, I broke down in tears. It was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders, and I was actually seen. Although my child did not tolerate the check up well, as I expected, the Dr. was still able to get X-rays, and did so as efficiently as possible! I received so much reassurance, advice, tips and tricks to help. I truly appreciate Dr. Shelby and her team for the excellent service, care and compassion we received. Would recommend!

Instead of compassion, the front desk clerk refused to even let me speak to the dentist -- someone we had trusted for years. I was so upset by how dismissive they were that I ended up in tears. One simple request turned into being completely disregarded, and it feels like something was said behind the scenes that wasn't true, because we were ignored and immediately dropped. When I respectfully mentioned I would leave an honest review about my experience, I received a letter dropping my daughter from care. They claimed it's their "policy" not to schedule young children later in the day, yet refused to show me any proof -- no signed document, no written policy, nothing. They also falsely claimed multiple attempts to contact me, but there was only one voicemail left. I returned the call and never received any follow-up. Six years of loyalty, perfect attendance, and a strong relationship thrown away over one basic scheduling request. This office does not prioritize patient relationships, communication, or professionalism. They will not advocate for you -- they will simply cut ties. I came here to get my teeth whitened before my engagement photos and my wedding…read more I previously had my teeth whitened two years prior at a different place in Sacramento, but the dental assistant at that other place had struggled with using this flimsy "lip condom" and she got the caustic whitening material on my lips, which caused them to swell up very badly. I didn't have that problem at Brentwood Family Dental because they use more rigid plastic to protect your lips - thank goodness! The hygienist who worked on my teeth here did a great job putting the barrier on my gums to protect them from the whitening chemical. I didn't feel any stinging whatsoever. Each round of whitening included the teeth brightening paste, then some sort of light to activate it for 15 minutes. She mentioned that it makes some people's teeth feel painful or sensitive, but it wasn't so bad for me. I think the hardest part was that I was getting bored of sitting still for so long by the end of it. But oh my gosh it was worth it!! My teeth looked incredible - I had never seen them so bright in my entire life! The hygienist/ dentist made sure that I understood the "white diet" before I left, so that I didn't accidentally stain my teeth while the pores were open. It was a bit of a challenge to only eat clear or white foods and trying to avoid things that were sweet/acidic as well, but that was an important step to preserve the results. She also took a mold of my teeth so she could send me home with an at-home whitening touch-up kit for right before my wedding. I am very happy with the service and quality I experienced here and looking forward to coming back when I need teeth brightening again in the future!
