A shavings fork I made the mistake of buying because it had a 25 year warranty failed miserably at year 10. The handle rotted INSIDE the ferrule that attaches it to the tines, unacceptable for a tool that resides in a shed between uses. When I reached out to Ames for assistance with a replacement I was told I had to have the receipt. Who keeps garden tool receipts for ten years? And the pictures I submitted clearly showed a rotted handle but they would not budge and wouldn't even give me a discount coupon toward a new one. Is this how American companies are honoring their customers these days? I will never purchase another tool from them and will encourage everyone I know to do the same.

Terrible customer service and fictional warranty support. Very sadly, like every other review posted before me, I experienced the very same horrid customer support. Heck, I've never even written a Yelp review before, but I was so taken aback by the extreme lack of support from this local to me, American company that prides themselves on a legacy of "the tools that built America." Well I can say from experience, if our forefathers were using these current Ames tools, we'd still be working on putting up the very first structure. My experience was with simple yard rakes. I mean how much simpler can you get for a yard tool. Of course they moved from the old-fashioned metal rake to a plastic one, but most companies did. Ames just chose to manufacture theirs out of inferior plastic that brakes (repeatedly: I've had 4 broken now over the years) with regular light residential use....you guessed it....raking leaves. WOW?! I mean if you can't get your stuff together to make a rake that doesn't brake when RAKING leaves....WHAT are you doing in the yard tool business?! Now some could blame me for still returning to a company after 4 broken rakes, but I kept wanting to support my hometown brand, AND kept thinking "well there's no way this new one breaks. They must have improved it by now." Then the ultimate joke is when I contact customer service about a replacement using their boldly claimed 15 year warranty. It's very PROMINENT on all their tools, lulling you in to a (now I KNOW) very false sense of quality and longevity. There is of course no mention or Asterisk* saying you BETTER HOLD ON TO THAT RECIEPT FOR ALL 15 YEARS. But yet, that's exactly what they expect. As other reviewers have said, who on earth would hold on to a simple garden rake receipt for any time at all....let alone 15 years. That's the first laugh I got. Then it was quickly followed up the by the customer service rep adding insult to injury by saying my photos showing the clearly broken rakes (2) wouldn't qualify for a manufacturing defect anyway. AGAIN I SAY, "WHAT?!" So the leaf raking tool you make claiming it will hold up for 15 years, cracks right across the plastic rake head, from normal occasional use actually RAKING LEAVES at a residential small yard, and that's not a defect?!?! WHAT THE WHAAAAA?! I'm sorry, was I raking one too many heavy leaves, was I raking to the right when I should have gone left, oh my, I truly didn't think raking was so complex. I think you get my drift folks, I'm not ever working with them again and I would Highly recommend you steer clear as well. And if you do brave it buying one of their products, just be sure you encase the receipt in bulletproof glass, lock it in a fireproof safe, and bury that in a hardened time capsule in your yard....for when it inevitably fails years prior to it's warranty claim. OHHHH Yeah, and whatever you do, make sure you don't use it for it's intended purpose. That will of course void the warranty as well. Disappointed in PA

My husband and I were looking forward to have our wood burning stove installed, as we had a great customer experience with Mike at the Camphill Store. In fact, everything was great, from the talk with Mike to the chimney inspection, install scheduling to the installers, Alex and Ian, who were fantastic.   After install was complete, though, is when this company became suspect. After install was complete, the installation team "officially" clocked out and called the office to adjust some line items on the bill, as it took less time and material than anticipated. Then we talked for a bit, the team gave us some instructions as to the functioning of the stove, they put an agreed-upon sign in our yard (advertisement for AES), and took my payment.  I handed my credit card over and was asked if I could please pay with a check as it saves the company on service fees.  I obliged, as my husband and I felt we had established a good customer relationship throughout our time with AES. I hardly ever write checks, as I get "cash back" rewards from my card, so it took a bit to find my checkbook, write a check, walk out and hand it over. The next day, I received a call from AES and was told there was "extra time" that didn't get billed, and I could just give my credit card over the phone for $280.  I didn't want to owe anything, and paid it, but after hanging up, I did have some second thoughts.  I called back and spoke with the manager, also named Alex. He explained it was the fault of the installers, who shouldn't have clocked out till everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) was done.  They just clocked out too soon and their wheels were on our property for another hour past the time they clocked out--the GPS says so!   As a result, WE the customers are being billed $4.66 per MINUTE for them to explain their product to us, chit-chat about the weather, walk down the driveway to put out a sign and for ME to walk inside, transfer money online, write a check and hand it to them. I told the manager, well, the installers were explaining how the stove works and he said, that shouldn't be done on the day of install, because "that's what the owner's manual is for." The install team "have to do better," he said and he'd have a talk with them. Maybe about how they can bill customers for an extra hour of time without them knowing about it?  Because, had the installers not clocked out too early, we'd never have known about this charge! If anyone is purchasing, or has purchased, a product from AES, beware of these billing practices. ANYTHING you discuss with them--after the install team tells you they are clocking out--will be billed separately. It all boils down to a "bait-and-switch."  For instance, if the team is clocked out, and then they ask to place a sign in your yard, giving the company free advertising for 30 days and the customer a $25 discount for chimney sweeping services, and the explaining of how this all works and installation of the sign takes 10 minutes--there goes $46.66. So, you'll pay $46.66 to get a $25 discount for the chimney sweep.  And by the way, if we get our OWN chimney sweeping service, we'll void the warranty of the chimney liner, so guess who'll be there for chimney-sweep services.  Of course, if you discuss all of this BEFORE the installers clock out, you'll STILL pay the same, but you won't get a phone call telling you the installers screwed you over with the billing process. So apparently, customer service at AES Hearth and Patio is billable per hour. Time is money. you know.  Well, in an effort to save this company some money, I lost my credit card reward because I wrote a check--perhaps I should counter-bill them for my lost cash-back reward and let's see how well that goes over.  *writing invoice now* In fairness, I WAS offered a refund of this extra hour, but I felt so bad for the installers--who are now going to have to have "the talk" with the manager--that I refused.  At least I'll have a clear conscience, especially after I let everyone I know who is interested in a wood stove NOT to purchase from AES Home and Patio. One friend is already looking elsewhere and I'm NOT charging for the advice!

So I checked them out on Yelp and saw that they were very well reviewed. So having the need to change the locks, I called Duty. 1st the 2 gentleman were friendly. They did not complain about my dog who is very friendly. Infact once she got her greeting sniffs done, she returned to her bed and observed the project. 2nd, the locks and keys were changed in a professional manner. The foreman even did a slight modification on the door sill so that the dead bolt worked easier. Thank you very much. All 4 keys that were made work smoothly. Not a problem for any of the keys to open the various locks. Thank you Duty. Ylu did a great job.

Rekeying locks and key duplication are the absolute lowest prices around and really fast too. Retail prices are a little high, but that's to be expected for a locally owned business. They're not going to be as cheap as some competitors, but I'm willing to help support our local businesses and pay a little extra. It also saves me time because of the convenient location, so it's a win for me. Duty's is my #1 choice for locksmiths.
