I've been doing business with American Tire for 30 years and I've been going to this location for 15 years since it's close to my work but this last visit might be my last one I had an appointment for 4 RunFlat tires for my BMW. I dropped the car and went to lunch. Got a VM that said my right rear wheel is bent and they recommend that I replace it ASAP. I called back to understand what happened. The person who picked up the call is very arrogant. He told me the wheel is damaged and they can order original factory wheel for me or I can buy their stocked wheel and it will be cheaper. I asked if they can tell me if there's a picture or he can describe the extend of the damaged. He said the car has been dismounted and will be extra work with them if they need to take a picture. He said wheel is not expensive if we buy from them and 4 set of their in-store wheel is cheaper than buying from bmw. I thanked him for the suggestion and I said I'm going to try to fix the wheel at a place I know. He then switched gear and asked where am I taking the wheel to, is it the place in Santa Clara (why would they care where am I taking the wheel to??). He used a judging tone and asked me "so you still want to drive your car ?" He said this is dangerous and can't be fixed and has to be replaced. He's also insinuating that the new tire can't be installed because the wheel is damaged. I asked him if he can mount the new tire and I'll decide when I'm back at the shop on next step. Back from the lunch, I went to talk to a different person in the counter and he asked me if I heard about the bent wheel and I said yes, I got the VM and called back earlier. He was nicer than the guy on the phone. He was also trying to convinced me to buy new set of wheels and I declined and said I would like to see if can be fixed. His coworker (I think that's the guy on the phone) said to me that wheel is not expensive and he was trying to show me the pricing on the screen. I declined and said I'm not planning to spend more money after the $1800 I spent on set of tires. After being able to get out of the upselling scene with American tires, I drove over to a shop in SJ to see if the wheel can be fixed. The dismount the tire and I get to see the wheel. Yes, it's bent and definitely need repair. The people in the wheel shop told me this not to bad, they should have it done within an hour. I waited and get to see what it looks like after the repair. Overall, I spent $150 fixing the wheel. I'm disappointed in the Brokaw Americas Tire team. I feel some high pressure upsell during this visit. I feel the person I talked to on the phone misrepresented the condition of the wheel (that it can't be fixed) AND giving me the impression that the tire can't even Be installed back and the only way out is to buy new set of wheels. I've always had great experiences at the Santa Clara and Mountain View America's Tire locations, but not here. My EV's tires were 8/32" front, 5/32" rear, yet I was told they were "too worn" to rotate. The manager approved the rotation but pushed replacements, a warranty that doesn't apply to OEM Hankooks, and one sales person even recommended Michelin Defenders, which aren't EV‑rated. Others in the waiting room nodded when I walked away, and I overheard the same pitch being used on multiple customers. One of my car's tire was a victim of vandalism. At first I thought it was a nail, but later found out by the mechanic somebody pierce through my tire with a sharp object. I booked an appointment with America's tire right away. The gentlemen inspected all of the tires and agreed I only need to replace the flat tire. He asked me if I purchased a certificate for the tires, but I didn't remember. He checked on the system and voila I did so they can replaced the flat tire free! I got a brand new set of tires via America's Tire after getting it from Costco the last time around. However, as much as I love Costco, their tire center is a hit and a miss and it takes forever to get an appointment even for the smallest of things. Buying the tires on the America's Tire website was a breeze. The tires shipped within a day and someone even called me to let me know that the tires were delivered to the store and I could come in sooner for my appointment (which I did). I went at the tail end of work hours and there was already a spot reserved for me with my name on it. Checking in was a breeze and the waiting area was clean (but lot of people due to the time I chose for my appointment, so the WiFi was slow). They told me that it will take an hour and it took exactly an hour. Service was great and the technicians that worked on it did a great job. They did my wheel balance & stated everything seems fine and all wheels are balance. They rotated my tires and wheel balance for free. Sounds good right? Well as soon the repair was done took the car for a test drive on the freeaway to see if the issue was fixed. NOP vibration was still there. Finally took my vehicle at TESLA SERVICE to really figure out whats going on, come to find they put X amount of weights all over the wheel which made it unbalance. Overall. Yes the service was free at americas tires but things was not done correctly. I would advise take your to TESLA SERVICE or other shops rather than this one. read more

I ordered and paid for the tires online before making an appointment, so I definitely recommend doing that to save yourself some time and trouble. I dropped in to have all 4 tires replaced; they happened to have them in stock and I was out within 1.5 hours. I ordered 4 new tire sensors and was supposed to be called when they received them. I wasn't notified but had to call to check myself. They were installed promptly. Days later, I noticed a tire pressure problem - all 4 sensors posted different readings. I took car back and thanks to Jason, the problem was identified. front and back tires on driver's side was incorrectly installed. I believe changing tires should be a simple discussion. Do you want to change all your tires? Which one do you want? Here are the prices. Went to this place to change my car's tires and got accused of lying - at a tire shop, while spending $1000+. The sales guy was like when was the last time you changed your tires? I said well, I don't remember but I don't drive much. And he went to accuse me of lying. He was like "definitely have been driven, they are quite worn out." It was not just the words, it was the whole attitude. Dude, you could simply tell me that the tires and worn and you recommend replacing them. Management should perhaps spend some time and money training your customer facing staff. The Santa Clara and Campbell locations have much better service. Pretty disappointed. read more

They gave me all the reasons why they couldn't do it and said that they would have to sell me a new tire. I've had punctures on my tires due to nails on the road in the past and paid $40-75 to get them patched. Another time, my wife had the sidewall punctured and we had to buy a new tire (coincidentally, it was right in front of America's Tires because someone dropped stuff off their truck). I ended up buying the tire through America's tires since they were able to get it within a day. I dropped it off my wheel and they swapped out the tire later on in the day. But the main reason for the 5/5 is because nearly a year later, my wife ran over a nail. Another coincidence is that it happened to be exactly the one America's Tire replaced last time. I was about ready to just pay some place to do it, but then I remembered that America's Tire actually does patches for free! Even if you didn't buy the tires from them. It was around 3-4PM on a Sunday, so it wasn't as busy for them. I assume they normally have some waitlist since they would prioritize paying customers, but I only had to wait about an hour. I went in Saturday for a routine 5000-miles tires rotation and balance. Services was quick, I had my car back in about 45 minutes. Took my car on a freeway test drive, I felt a steering vibration starting around 65 - 70 mph that got much worse at 80 mph. Clearly, the tires weren't balanced correctly. The communication between corporate and this store is honestly terrible. I showed up right at 8:00 AM when they opened, expecting a quick install since the tires were supposedly already there. Instead, I waited four hours for something that should've been simple. Most of the staff were rude, dismissive, and acted like they were doing me a favor just by answering a question. The only person who showed any professionalism or competence was Ronnie. He's the only one who actually helped me and explained what was going on. If you have had experience buying tires, youve probably heard of Tire Rack. It helps that they are now merged with Tire Rack for tire deals. Service is quick; I was in and out same day. Staff are nice. What I didn't appreciate but understand how they run is I felt rushed to make my tire decisions. They seem to run a tight ship, processing appointments quickly - go go go. I like to consider my options, understand, then decide. If you're just looking for in and out, someone recommending and you just take their word, this is your place. If you know what you want and are willing to wait for an order, again this is your place. Make sure you do your own homework too. Not everyone knows cars and tires really well. read more

I've always had great service at America's tires and I didn't necessarily have a bad experience here but it just wasn't great. I called because my wife's car had a nail in it and although it wasn't loosing air we were afraid if we pulled it out it would deflate and we would be stuck so I called America's tires to ask if we could bring it in for them to check out. The guy on the phone said sure and I double checked to see if we needed to make an appointment, he said nope . I came in immediately only to be told there would be an hour+ wait to get my car in and then I wouldn't be able to pick the car up till around closing time. After discussing with them they said they would check out the 2 tires on my passenger side, the sales rep also was trying to tell me how my rear tires were low on tread and needed replacement at 4/32 which is "technically true", he told me a tire rotation could help since both low tires were in the rear and the front were at 6/32 so I agreed to it only to be told that they couldn't do it that day.. and i would have to come in again tomorrow... I don't like to be one of those guys who goes into a shop and act like a know it all but you already have 2 out of the 4 tires off the car on a lift.. it's at MOST 5 min? to take off the other 2 and swap them... it's really not that hard, I mean give me the tools I can do it in 5 minutes.. but the guy refused. I ended up talking to another sales guy and he didn't even blink twice and said he could do it.. so not sure what the deal that was. I came in Thursday as a drop in but they couldn't take me in since they were busy, so I made an appointment for Friday for two of our cars, unfortunately they were at different times due to availability in time slots. I was stuck in traffic on Friday so I called to let them know I was on my way. Raul and Brandon were nice both over the phone and in person. Based on the 2.5 hours I spent here, I knew business was slow on Friday compared to when I came in on Thursday where all waiting seats were filled and there was a line. Upon arrival, I noticed business was slow so I asked Brandon if we can bring our other cars in today instead of the appointment times which were on Saturday and next Wednesday. He said sure, so I brought both in at different times as soon as I could. They close at 6pm and arrived back with the second drop in car at 5:25pm. Upon arrival, about half of the parking lot was empty, inside there were several waiting seats open, and no one waiting in line with two to three employees hanging out behind the counter chit chatting since business was on the slower side. When I walked in, two employees said they couldn't take in the second drop in car. I told them I had an appointment made for 2pm on Saturday and asked if they have an earlier time, but none of them were willing to take a look in their system and said, "It depends on how busy it gets." Later on I met Raul who looked into their scheduling system for me to see if anyone cancelled their appointment for an earlier time and went the extra mile to help me. This morning, I picked up the second car I dropped off thanks to Raul and now I can enjoy the rest of my Saturday! If it weren't for Brandon and Raul, I would have given a 3 star review.
