My daughter had a wonderful first swim lesson here, so we were excited to return the following week--especially after she was leveled up and we paid in advance for her next session. Unfortunately, this second visit was the complete opposite of our first. When we arrived, we were told she wasn't registered, even though we had already paid. After some back and forth, they "found a spot" and told us we were lucky, which didn't feel great considering the mistake wasn't ours. From the moment her new instructor walked her back, I could see my daughter's discomfort. She's only four, and getting into a pool with a stranger requires warmth, patience, and a little time to build trust. Instead, her instructor was neither friendly nor engaging. My daughter managed about five minutes in the water before becoming too overwhelmed. Swimming should be fun, safe, and encouraging--not something a child feels forced into. I hope the program takes this kind of feedback seriously, because young swimmers need instructors who understand how to connect with children, especially during those first few lessons to build trust and confidence. read more

All the reviews are rather old so this is my recent experience. I sent my daughter to the winter camp and she did have fun (2 stars for that). However, I don't think I would recommend them or send her again because of the poor management and communication from the staff. In the first day I kept her home because I was worried she might be sick and it was a couple days before Christmas (not nice to share bugs and ruin the holiday for others). And they are very upfront that there are no refunds. I was cool with that day because it was my choice. I called them to ask if there is a specific drop off time or details for the next day and was told there wasn't. Drop Off was flexible. Additionally, I checked the email they sent out and it only had the one address (for the building with the bus parked outside). The next day my daughter was 100% but slept in and my husband tried to drop her off at 11:30. He went to the address we were provided, and found the lights off and a sign on the door that said they were closed for the winter break. I called and called the number for an hour. Their phone system is super annoying because you have to listen to a long message advertising their programs before anybody picks up, then if nobody picks up, while you are holding you have to listen to another message on a loop. There is no way to leave a message. Seems like a very 1980's way to mange phone communication. Finally at about 12:30 I get ahold of a person. She said she is the only person who can answer the phones during camps because most of their staff is off and rather indignantly points out that she deserves a lunch, so she was away from the phone. Also, while she is on break , because they only use a skeleton crew for winter camps, all the kids are walked over to the other building where the the dance and gymnastics classes are held, which is why the place was closed when my husband tried to drop off. I mentioned that I had specifically called the day before to ask about drop off times and arrangements and nobody had communicated that there is a second location used. Her attitude was that I just should have known to go there. I pointed out that if they have a sign indicating they are closed for the holidays, they could also put one up indicating that the camp site has moved to a second location while she is on break. She did offer that I could drop off my daughter now (it was movie time) but it was nearly 1:00 and she would only be there for a short time by the time my husband drive her back over. The other concern was than, while I agree everyone deserves a break, if there was an emergency with a child and the parents needed to contact AKM, having no way to leave a message or having them forward calls to someone who can cover the phones, seems rather dangerous. My daughter did finally make it the next week and had fun. However, my husband had mixed feeling with the place when dropping her off. For what is described as a "camp" it did not offer all the activities mentioned in the advertisement. Also, when he dropped her off at 9:30 ( an hour after it started) he said there was only 1 adult, who appeared to be a young lady or teenager, watching 9 other kids of various ages as they ran around in an unstructured environment. He sat in the car for a bit to observe. She took all the kids out to the sidewalk area, gave them a bag of cheese its and watched them run around the sidewalk while they ate their snack. She then took them back inside for more playtime. He ultimately decided that because he was off and could come get our daughter if she was not having fun he was willing to give it a chance. There was nothing unsafe occurring, just rather it felt more like a daycare than a camp with planned activities. My daughter enjoyed running around the ninja course and swimming, so they did more activities through the day. I emailed my concerns and waited over a week for a response and have received none. Overall, did my daughter have fun?- yes. Would I send her again- probably not. The price point for what you get, the poor management and communication seems like they have some gaps in their process that makes me feel like the camps are an afterthought and not run with attention to details. Plus, if you are using this as daycare during the winter school break (we were not) their hours are not very convenient. It opens at 8:30 and pick up is 2:30, not exactly helpful hours for working people. read more

I signed my two children (ages 6 and 3) up for a semi-private swim lesson 1x per week, where the two boys shared a private lesson. I was extremely upfront about their differing ability levels. I was initially told (prior to starting lessons) that the private lesson was $60 per lesson with a discounted rate for the second child. Well, their lessons occurred on Mondays, overlapping with one holiday. So, I called back to ask when I could reschedule their lesson and was informed that the "discounted" rate for my second child was a flat rate for the "whole month"; however, he had only attended three lessons at this point. I hardly think three lessons counts as a month's worth of lessons, when most months have four weeks and sometimes five. I am disappointed by the misleading communication about pricing and poor value for what my children have learned. There are many solutions to this issue that I suggested but was told were not an option, e.g., the discounted rate should be per lesson, pro-rated options should be available when holidays occur, or make-ups should occur when holidays prevent a lesson from occurring. I will not be bringing my children back to AKIM. I do appreciate their timely answering of phones to discuss this issue. I thank the kind instructors, they were sweet with my children. read more

They charge you weather your kid goes to class or not. If your child is sick you can do a drop in at a cost. For them it's like you're going to the gym. They are holding your spot. Plus the instructors have no experience. This place sure did go down. read more

We have had nothing but great experiences at the gym u tots classes with my three year old this past year. All of the coaches are so kind and patient... especially with my kid! The only downside is the coaches change often sometimes we don't get a chance to say goodbye or even get introduced to the new coaches. While they are wonderful, I know none of their names! But regardless my daughter has a great time. They have measures to keep things clean and class sizes don't seem to be too big, but since we started this year I'm not sure what it look liked pre covid. I'm top of everything else I find their prices to be very reasonable. So glad we are able to do this! read more

We love this place! We have been coming here for months and our girls love their coach (Coach Manny). He is kind and patient with them. He makes their class time fun and doesn't give them more than they can handle. Both of my girls have improved so much on their swimming skills! Overall, everyone here is always super friendly and the establishment is kept clean. My 5 year old daughter is obsessed with the camps. She always has the best time and of all her summer camps, this one seems to be the biggest winner. They do a nice job with the staffing as well as each staffer seems very good with kids, bubbly personality, playful, sweet and kind. This morning when I dropped off my daughter, one of the camp counselors immediately noticed my daughter was getting a little separation anxiety and she acted very delicately with my daughter and it made the drop off so much easier and then when I picked up my daughter at the end of camp, it was obvious based on what she told me that she had an incredible day! They keep the kids busy with lots of fun activities. Camp director also seemed very sweet yet professional. Win win all around. read more

I love this place and so does my 3-year-old! Coach Katie is a favorite in my house. My daughter adores her, and always looks forward to her weekly gym class. The ONLY reason I gave a 4 star rating is because some of the parents (entire families) need to learn manners and how to behave in public. A dad slapped his son on the face because the little boy was acting out during gym class. We used to go to AKIM for baby Ninja class. I highly recommend it. It is so great to see the kids jumping around and learning the balancing skills with hand eye coordination. I love this class. Each time I took my 2 1/2 years, now 3 1/2 year old, I could see him getting more confident. The result has been that our couch and mommy/daddy's bed have become playmats for tumbling. I had to stop going due to schedule conflict but if it works out again, I will certainly be back. The teacher we had was great! If you can't commit to a scheduled time, you can do a drop in. You just need to call the morning of the class before 10:30 to see if there is room for a drop in session. read more

The instruction is mediocre at best, and despite claiming to to be cognizant of the threat of covid both front desk ladies were without masks (hope the health dept doesn't find out). We can only comment regarding the swim school since that is the only one our child had attended. It is subpar. We enrolled our daughter in private lessons and over the course of the year she barely learned anything. Advancement is seemingly designed at a snail's pace to maximize profit. Our daughter was very resistant to going after the first few classes. She finally told us that her teacher kept telling her to "stop whining!" We complained to the staff about the teacher's behavior, which would be unprofessional regardless but especially egregious when the class is only 20 minutes and we had notified the school that our daughter had a slight physical delay. The employee who responded acted shocked to be getting a complaint. The makeup policy seems also designed to maximize profit. You get a paper voucher (that expires) for missed classes. We never got to use all of our vouchers by the time we decided to switch to another school. We have friends who still attend the school who have also complained about the same thing. After we switched our daughter to another school, she was swimming like a fish within a few lessons and actually enjoying swimming. Our younger child has done the same. Our friends who are still at AKIM have been taking their kids for years! They are still not swimming as well as our kids.We couldn't believe how much money we had wasted at AKIM. read more

The swim place is packed with lots of kids. The coaches don't really pay attention, it feels like they are passing there half an hour. Slow process. They keep kid at one level for a long time. They never have times available that will fit your schedule. They have option to make up a class if u miss a class but they never have class available for make up so u end up losing the make up token. They waste first 5 and last 5 mins in play time so class is only 20 mins with 5 kids. Craziness. read more

Writing this review Im reminded of the nightmare I experienced at akim swim school. My 4 y/o slipped off the step and the swim instructor didn't notice nor did the lifeguard on duty. He was fully submerged underwater and wasn't pulled out until I banged on the window alerting staff to help him, he was then pulled out. This was not our first year of swim lessons, but was our first time with akim swim school. I was told the lifeguard has other tasks which is unacceptable; this swim school has poor safety measures in place. The more I think about how it happened the angrier I get. My child knew exactly what happened and was very shaken up. I was offered a month of free swim lessons. Choose wisely. read more

My almost 4 year old son just completed his 2 week swim school and guess what, he can't swim! The curriculum is so slow it's ridiculous. My nephew who is the same age completed the coarse with him and his current swimming skills are just as weak . Do you want your kid to really learn to swim? Or would you like to drive them back and fourth for months maybe even years, pay the big bucks again and again to learn a skill that children have learned in the past during the course of about 4 days?? They didn't teach the boys how to come up for air and they encouraged them NOT to use their arms while swimming?? Doing everything they can to slow down this learning process. I spoke to another mother who had been taking her child to the same school for the past 3 years (year around) She explained that her bright and fully capable child still does not know how to swim and come up for air. Her child is 5 years old. I don't know about you but everyone in my family learned this skill before we turned 3 years old and were taught by excellent swim teachers. I complained to the coordinator , Sarah , and she was certain that it was the only correct way to teach a child how to swim, she explained that after I pay more and re-enroll him they will eventually teach him how to roll over on his back to breath and they will not dare teach him something so dangerous as paddling his hands to come up for air in the middle of swim. I'm happy they teach floating on the back as this is a important life saving skill. However, it should not take place of the basic skill of coming up for air before making it to the edge. There are many excellent teachers who get children to swim in a fraction of the time. Let's not forget swimming is a safety matter. There are far too many swimming accidents in the U.S. year after year. When I mentioned this to Sarah the corrdinator, she snickered at me and said, "you really expect your child to have enough skill to save his own life in the case of an accident after 2 weeks of swim lessons???" Not with their curriculum clearly. Later a friend told me she took her daughter to the same school with a similar experience after the 2 week course. So she enrolled her daughter in Jan Thomas swim school who had her swimming in less then a week. Good thing too, because the girls on the swim teem now and does nothing but win all the time (Olympic status). I will be bringing my son else where as well. Apart from my personal experience with the 2 week course, the facility is very nice and the staff is quite pleasant. read more

Great fun for our boys Axel and Liam. They are hoping to be on American Ninja Warrior show someday. Tyson is very positive and easy going with Axel even though Axel's energy level is off the charts and it's a challenge to keep him going along with out losing focus. He seems to give him enough freedom to learn and then reel him in again before it's too late. Liam has been getting better and better too in the three year old classes and they both do swim classes every week too . I think it's been really good for both of them to increase their strength and overall fitness for other sports. All the instructors have been great, I just don't know all their names. It's exciting to see them do this stuff and each time they learn a new skill they are so proud and excited to move forward. We are excited to see what level they will achieve at the end of this summer. I see the athletic ability developing in them and feel like they are going to have a significant edge in school sports, I will recommend this place to all of our friends. Katie K is really good with Axel too and they all make it fun for us, sometimes gymnastics training can get crazy competitive and we get that but we like how they can get good training in a safe environment with caring instructors that help them with good form but don't get too wrapped up in the potential to be ultra competitive. read more

Not the best, but not terrible. My daughters took gymnastics, the coaches are great and really friendly, excellent with kids, the program seemed to be Okay. For the most part, my girls enjoyed it, but they got bored with the repetitiveness so we moved on. I believe my older daughter should have been in a different class, but they never evaluated her, and I had a lot of difficulty trying to register her for classes. Also, my younger daughters class seemed too large for one teacher, it's difficult to get a group of 3 year olds to stay on task and one teacher can't give them enough attention. Here's my issues with this facility. There was NEVER hand soap in the bathroom, EVER, and they don't have hand sanitizer around. They have hundreds of kids coming and going, they're all touching the same equipment, and spreading all kinds of germs because they can't wash their hands with soap. For the money I was paying, they could at least have hand soap in the bathroom. My second issue is that they require kids to wear special gymnastic shoes, I paid just over $40 for my girls to have these shoes, because they are required, but come to find out nobody else follows the rules, my girls were almost always the only ones wearing these shoes, and my girls always complained that their feet hurt, even though I got them bigger sizes. Every so often they would hand parents a flyer that they were going to enforce the rule, or kids couldn't participate in class, but the rule was NEVER enforced. read more

Staff was very polite and informative and the teachers are amazing my daughter was shy and scared, but her instructor got her to come out of her shell and she had a blast and hasn't been able to stop talking about it! Things were going well for our daughter in her semi-private swim classes but that all changed when a new "instructor" was "trained" and took over. The class was for 2 children but a child joined who was completely out of control. The "instructor" would spend the whole lesson just running around the pool grabbing the child while my daughter was left playing by herself. There were multiple problems here. The person they trained was completely unfit for the job. They also should've put someone else to help out with the lessons (like actually teach my daughter stuff) but they never did. We complained multiple times and it was always the same "We're sorry that sometimes happens" excuse and they ultimately did nothing. They're so booked up you can't find another available class. We're done throwing our money away. Our daughter can play by herself somewhere else for free. I would not recommend this swimming school to anyone. It's just too chaotic there. read more

My son is 4 and a half and has been in swim lessons for a year (year round). I wanted to try this place because it's much closer to my house. I did a one time lesson to see how it worked and if it was going to be a good fit. I'm sadden to say it was not. They do not assess your child's skill level before enrollment. They just throw him in a class for his age group with 3 other kids. You get about 8 minutes of swim time for your kid by the time they pick out life jackets and whatnot (which he doesn't need). He was too advanced for the class they put him in but when I asked the lady at the desk she said that was up to the swim instructor if he moves up. At the end of class he got a blue chip and we were not told what it was for. There was another parent that was in the same boat as me. Her son was in too low of a class and didn't know what the chip was for. No one tried to follow up with us or see if we were interested in signing up, so we both left with no intentions of returning. Go to Jaime's school of fish. They are nice there and your kid will learn how to swim so I'll be staying with them. read more

It's a great place with a very good staff. The preschool is excellent, but quite a bit over-priced, especially now that they won't be including swim lessons in their tuition next year (2019/2020). We've also done evening gymnastics, which was super fun, but very overcrowded. I felt like my son spent a lot of time standing around, not just at his own station but also with his group, waiting for other groups to get out of the station his group was waiting to enter. He literally learned nothing during that experience. He enjoyed it, but we didn't sign up again after the one session after talking to the desk person who confirmed it's always that way. We often do open gym there on Thursdays, as do many of the preschool families, but now they have reduced the time to one hour, instead of 90 minutes, and they start the one hour 15 minutes before the preschool gets out, which is a bummer since most the paying participants can only make the second half of it . I think this is an amazing place that hires well and they all do a good job, but in general it's over crowded, and a bit expensive considering so. My middle child is about to finish up preschool there, and sadly we probably won't be back for anything after this year. However, we really have enjoyed the preschool and the wonderful teaching staff, especially last year. read more

Our daughter had an amazing experience with dance classes and summer camp here. The building is bright and colorful. The staff are bright, energetic and upbeat. Clean, new, positive, colorful. They put on a dance recital for the kids that was very well done. I wish we still lived in Clovis. An absolutely wonderful program. read more

My daughter has been attending for a year now and the staff is wonderful. The coaches are very good with the kids. My daughter started when she was 2 and is almost 4 now. I put her in ballet & gymnastics hoping to help her with her shyness, and I'm so glad I did. She has cried in multiple practices because she is just so shy, and each time the coaches were so encouraging with her, and patient. She did not initially do the first Christmas recital (she cried when we got there and wouldn't get on stage). But today she completed the big Summer recital, and I'm very proud of her.
