Well -- BOOOM -- what do you know, I was way off ! I was here for the SOAR event Aug 31st at the Technical college to help bring broadband to the area, which the Governor and Chairman Hal Rogers also attended ...and this hotel was very nice in every way. The lobby and lounge area really nice, high end and classy. The people were all very helpful and easy to talk to and work with. Anything I needed they were happy to help, including a last second late checkout. And the room was very nice with all the things you would hope for. And I travel a lot in my day all over the country and world, but this bed was seriously the most comfortable one I have ever had in a hotel. Seriously! I never would have thought I'd say that about Hazard, Kentucky -- but it is true. Place was inexpensive as well making it the trifecta of nice, clean and not expensive. One note of caution of those who care to partake in a beverage here and there -- this area is DRY on Sunday. Found out when I went in the Applebee's literally next door and asked girl -- are you open, Sunday night -- when like 1 person in there. She said yes we are. So I sat down, to only find out they can not serve alcohol on Sunday -- so I then said good evening and left! IS this a true 5 star as I rated it? No. My sliding scale of being in the boonies and my expectations of fear, made me give them a 5 --- but it is a legit 4 star feel and quality, not only in Hazard but anywhere really! Kudos team, kudos!

Victoria the asst mgr assured it would be done. I reminded again at 12 noon and assured it would be done soon At 300pm I asked the lady cleaning the floor. It was never done. I am 86 yrs old and asked the asst mgr Victoria with help print boarding passes. Victoria (asst mgr) refused to help me. At midnight we had to go downstairs for towels. They have a sign in the entry way that says if not satisfied they would compensate. Three hours before checking out Victoria said I am very busy and will call you. Two days later no call This attitude was very poor. In addition the breakfast was luke warm and not hot

When we first drove up after dark we almost kept going, but after looking at a room we stayed. Clean, fresh room, friendly owner, very reasonable rates, and a great value. While it is a basic motel, I'm giving it a "5 circle" rating because the quality, cleanliness, and value were excellent. One small issue: we were never able to get the wifi password, as the front desk closed after we checked-in.

But I try to be honest and fair. I've stayed in a number of hotels across the country, and I can honestly say, this one is one of my favorites. It might not have all the glam of upscale, $300 a night hotels, but if you don't need crystal chandeliers, or worry about notable guests who have stayed in similar suites, then you should be extremely content staying here. Complimentary breakfast is provided. And it's good. Most breakfast buffets I skip because the quality of the food is so poor. Here, there is an ample variety, and its quality. (The apples did feel kind of waxy though). It had a pool, a gym (albeit a little small, wasn't busy!), a nice lounge area, vending machines, and there are several shops and restaurants just across the way. Our room was very neat and tidy. I felt comfortable enough in it to relax. I'm usually so OCD, hotel rooms just feel dirty sometimes, don't they? This one didn't. It was very nice. Decor is typical, mini fridge included. It had a nice feel to it. Easy access getting in and out- that's a plus. Above all, I would like to brag on the staff. SO nice and friendly. They gave us an extended checkout without any hassle. They were extremely accommodating, polite, and kind. I was very impressed! If you are in this area looking for a place to lay your head at night, I feel safe in saying, you will sleep well here!

The room was so damp that the top sheet felt damp. i was never able to get the a/c on, the wall paper was falling off and the bathroom wall was starting to fall in and the bathtubs were rusting. With chunks missing out of the bottom. I will never stay here again and would advise no one ever stay here no matter the circumstances.

Pros: -free breakfast, although a limited selection. -cheap. Although we only stayed because all the other hotels were booked for the black gold festival. -had a decent selection of tv channels. Won't be staying when we go down to Hazard again, we'll just stay somewhere better, like the Hampton right down the road. But if your just crashing for a night go ahead and stay here. Don't make our mistake and stay for 3 nights.

The room was clean so that was good, but the drawers in the chest of drawers would not stay closed and would slide out and stay. The motel did not have very many used rooms, why would they put us in a room with drawers that don't close? The woman at the desk was polite but I kept having a hard time hearing her and missed exactly where our room was. Took forever to find it since there are two buildings. Then, neither of our keys worked and had to go down and get new ones. Spoke to some locals who stay at the hotel for work. I had the feeling that they do not pay anywhere close to $93 per night.

The story of Frontier Nursing Service and the founder, Mary Breckinridge. I enjoyed the tour and learning about her, how she found midwifery in America and all the wonderful things that she accomplished! She was truly a hero. The rooms were beautiful and well maintained. The staffs were warm and welcoming. The food was also delicious. I especially remember the spinach dip and the cobbler. Both were excellent and one of the best I've had. Overall, this place is a wonderful place to come and get away from it all. Come soak in the rich history, the beautiful view, fresh air and some awesome southern food.

This place used to be a Holiday Inn Express, but closed and reopened under a different franchise…read more It's still got the old Holiday Inn bedding, which was really comfortable, and the front desk staff was pretty friendly. But that's about where it stops. Usually, when I'm traveling for business, I try to get started working as soon as I can in the morning, so if a continental breakfast is available, it's a big seller for me. Maybe I've been spoiled by the Hampton Inns and Holiday Inn Express's continentals, but this was, hands down, the worst breakfast I've ever had (short of one in South Williamson, KY, but that's another review). Powdery eggs, stale biscuits, and not even any gravy (how do you eat biscuits without gravy!?!?! one can get their ass kicked around these parts for such an omission!). For the price I paid, I wouldn't stay here again. Government per-diem is about 75 a night, compared to the 100+ a night the general public pays. That's even worse!
