I enjoyed the tour and learning about her, how she found midwifery in America and all the wonderful things that she accomplished! She was truly a hero. The rooms were beautiful and well maintained. The staffs were warm and welcoming. The food was also delicious. I especially remember the spinach dip and the cobbler. Both were excellent and one of the best I've had. Overall, this place is a wonderful place to come and get away from it all. Come soak in the rich history, the beautiful view, fresh air and some awesome southern food.

We received an indoor room which connected to the small lobby. For the price of $93 I was disappointed in this motel. Very outdated and worn looking. The room was clean so that was good, but the drawers in the chest of drawers would not stay closed and would slide out and stay. The motel did not have very many used rooms, why would they put us in a room with drawers that don't close? The woman at the desk was polite but I kept having a hard time hearing her and missed exactly where our room was. Took forever to find it since there are two buildings. Then, neither of our keys worked and had to go down and get new ones. Spoke to some locals who stay at the hotel for work. I had the feeling that they do not pay anywhere close to $93 per night.

The inside of the airport is quite welcoming with a nice counter as well as your typical GA facilities. The kitchen feels much like my home kitchen, with a sign reminding you to do your own dishes. Love it. Snack machine is about all the food you'll find on site, but you'll also find fuel and any services you may need to make the next leg. The only thing that was somewhat wrong with this airport was the amount of "Coal is our future" signs around the terminal. When you see the landscape around the airport, it's kinda sad as you literally witness the mountains being chipped away for coal. But hey, it makes for a nice golf course. Would love to stop by again.

Once, we were delayed in Harlan due to mechanical problems, and would need fuel in Hazard or London before heading on to Frankfort. They were more than willing to wait for us to come back, and would not take extra $$ no matter how much I insisted. These guys are great; I try to stop by every time I'm headed east. If you land after the building is closed, they've got their home and cell numbers, and won't hesitate to come fill your tank, or take you the few miles into town to a hotel.

My son was wanting to find the lodge in order to attend a wedding their in a week, so we traveled to Buckhorn in order to find it. I want to emphasize that this park isn't easy to get to. We were traveling from Morehead to the park, the same route my son will take next week. The roads are small and winding and you can't expect to get in a hurry. However, the views will be spectacular, especially in the spring while the red buds and dogwoods are in bloom. It took us just under 2 hours to travel the 85 miles. When we a arrived, there was very few people there. It was about 4:00 PM, so it was a little early for dinner or to check in. The dinning hall didn't open until 4:00 and I think it is only open Friday-Sunday. We were the only people dining. The view is beautiful, but the water level was down. It is still pretty early in the spring and I'm sure they are preparing for the spring rainy season. We both ordered the fried catfish with fries, hush puppies, and a side salad. The side salad was very small, but was OK. It could have been better. The catfish was very tasty and fresh. They could have been a little meatier, but were acceptable. The fries were good and hot. I was not a fan of the hush-puppies. They were obviously home made, but the spices were too strong or something, and I think they need to find a better recipe. There were several cabins on the way to the lodge. They don't have a campground, but a private one is near by. They have a few hiking trails, and from the looks of them, they would give you a pretty good workout. If you want to unplug and hide for a few days, this would be the perfect place. The lodge is small, but clean. However, there was no cell service, and no wi-fi. At least while we were there. I think if I wanted to find a nice quiet place to "reboot," this would be on the list.

All off the staff were super friendly and we also ate there the fried chicken was awesome and they only had WiFi at the lodge and no service on your phone any where else in the park. We also played putt putt golf and you can rent a pontoon boat for the whole day to go on the lake. I highly recommend going here it's very relaxing and away from everything.
