Well I will be the first to admit, I was a bit skeptical before my stay. Seemed like most…read morereviewers were local from Kentucky and I had not been here to this part of Appalachia, but having spent the last 14 years in the DC area till a recent move to Huntsville Alabama..that had me fall into a bit of east coast snobbery....and I did not have high hopes for this areas hotel. Well -- BOOOM -- what do you know, I was way off ! I was here for the SOAR event Aug 31st at the Technical college to help bring broadband to the area, which the Governor and Chairman Hal Rogers also attended ...and this hotel was very nice in every way. The lobby and lounge area really nice, high end and classy. The people were all very helpful and easy to talk to and work with. Anything I needed they were happy to help, including a last second late checkout. And the room was very nice with all the things you would hope for. And I travel a lot in my day all over the country and world, but this bed was seriously the most comfortable one I have ever had in a hotel. Seriously! I never would have thought I'd say that about Hazard, Kentucky -- but it is true. Place was inexpensive as well making it the trifecta of nice, clean and not expensive. One note of caution of those who care to partake in a beverage here and there -- this area is DRY on Sunday. Found out when I went in the Applebee's literally next door and asked girl -- are you open, Sunday night -- when like 1 person in there. She said yes we are. So I sat down, to only find out they can not serve alcohol on Sunday -- so I then said good evening and left! IS this a true 5 star as I rated it? No. My sliding scale of being in the boonies and my expectations of fear, made me give them a 5 --- but it is a legit 4 star feel and quality, not only in Hazard but anywhere really! Kudos team, kudos!

I am typically offered a couple of bottles of water and a snack. Not here. Otherwise; the woman working the desk seemed trained on the fundamentals. My last six (recent) Hampton/Hilton stays included a hot breakfast offering - but not this property. At 8:15-ish AM; coffee urns were all empty. No bananas. No muffins. No OJ. No waffles. Kids cereal and milk were available. Another guest mentioned bananas and muffins being available in the pantry, so I assumed if it was okay for them, it must be okay for me to retrieve a few errant items. Apparently, not okay. Staffer immediately closed the sliders to block the pantry then asked if there was something I needed. Um, yeah ... coffee, banana, Raisin Bran, OJ. He delivered everything but the OJ. The other guest that had encouraged my foray in to the pantry shrugged and apologized ... not his fault.

There is a big selection of drinks (frappes, hot chocolates, coffee) -- and my frozen mocha was wonderful. There have a huge assortment of gourmet chocolate bars, pastries, and cakes. YUM. Truly, so good, and not like anywhere else around for miles. It's a perfect spot to get together with friends or family. There's a play area for little toddlers, a huge back deck with brand-new furniture and plenty of well-shaded tables. The back yard would be a great event venue. Thanks, hope to be back soon!

We saw a flyer for the Inn posted on a board near a spot where we climb and decided to try it. We were not disappointed! The couple who own the Inn, Mai and Dustin, are very sweet, talented and welcoming. They've worked hard to create a beautiful space out of what looks like an old motel. The rooms were designed by Mai and are modern and spacious. I'm guessing the room used to be 2 motel rooms made into one suite. We stayed in the Paris room. It's quite large with a separate sitting area (where we put our gear), and a huge bathroom. The wood floors were convenient for when we came in dirty and didn't have to worry about keeping carpet clean. Also, there is a large screen tv with Roku and Sling TV so you can just click an app, put in your own password and watch what you want. The bed was comfortable and we took advantage of the jetted tub every night which felt amazing on tired feet. They also have organic soaps made by a local person that were wonderfully pleasant. And the room has a strong WiFi signal. When we arrived, Dustin and Mai greeted us with small chocolate candies. They were delicious. They live next to the Inn and are very attentive. In anticipation of breakfast, I told them about my food restrictions which they easily accommodated. Mai made the breakfasts, which were well done and generally were an egg dish, fresh fruit or yogurt with fruit, a pastry of your choice and a drink from the menu. We ate outside on the back deck (we could have also taken our food to our room) and sometimes chatted with other guests and customers. Everyone was friendly but not overly invasive. We also learned more about what Dustin and Mai have planned for the future for the Inn and it sounds very exciting. They're a lovely couple with great vision and the effort they put into their Inn shows. Oh one other thing... we casually mentioned on our second day that we were celebrating our anniversary. That evening Dustin and Mai unexpectedly popped by our room with the most delicious mousse cake. Such a sweet surprise! We had just eaten and thought we couldn't stomach anything else, but when we took our first bite we couldn't stop ourselves from devouring it. Seriously delicious!!

I think you have to request for these for additional charge. I am not very picky on where I stay when I go hiking as long as it's clean. I will rate the quality of service and how smooth my transaction with the front desk and booking/ communication with this hotel 5/5. However, for the hotel itself I have to rate it 2/5 because of the missing basic appliances in the room, the room smells like stale smoke even if I asked for a non-smoking room, the shower pressure was so light it's just like dripping water, the internet signal was non- existent like I was back in the 90's, I feel like I was in the boonies because my Verizon is not getting any signal while I was inside the room, and the towels were very hard and has stains. I'm glad I brought my own towels.

The 2nd worker that came in sounded honestly shocked that I could not connect. I would be really upset, but the new girl Trina, saved the review for the hotel. She was nice and was very helpful trying to get me some wifi. She checked a closer room to see if I can get the wifi, no luck. I appreciated the extra effort. She was nice and could not give a bad review after interacting with her. She told me it was her 2nd day, I'm sure she will get more good reviews fir the hotel. Turned a 1 star review into 4. I would recommend the hotel owners to look into mesh networks if there is a common issue with the wifi. In an area that has no cell coverage it is important for the hotels to have good wifi.

I can't speak to the cabins, but as for the lodge my review is under "Hemlock Lodge" and it's a solid 4 despite a few cons. But for the park itself--a 5, hands down. A beautiful, well maintained park full of trails from easy to difficult and each with glimpses of wonderful natural beauty such as the main trail here that leads to the natural bridge. You can hike to the top of the bridge and walk it, then trek under neath it for a view of the arches, then to several overlooks to get a glimpse of it from a distance. I'd recommend doing all of the above as each is breath-taking. This area of KY has more natural arches than any place east of Utah and that doesn't get mentioned nearly enough. There's a local business on site at the park that sells passes to ride a ski lift to the top of the resort park trail where you can then trek to the natural bridge in 15 minutes or so (max) of moderate hiking. We opted for the one way pass and hiked down--a really great hike but one that is a bit more difficult and provides opportunities to slip and fall so if you're a casual at best hiker you may prefer the roundtrip lift. It's worth doing if you're up for it though, as it's a beautiful hike. Really great park in a really great location to use as a homebase to explore all of the red river gorge area which offers a lot of other great hikes and natural beauty.

I don't even know where to start about our visit here. As someone who has stayed in everything from…read moretents to resorts, I think I have a pretty good idea of what to expect from a Level 2/3 hotel. My mom has stayed at other locations and overall been happy so we decided to stay at this location. It was $95 for the night and seemed high for what you get but since it offered breakfast and had a pool we justified the cost. On first arriving, the lobby was clean and seemed welcoming although small for where you are also eating breakfast. This did prove true in the morning so we took it back to our room which was inconvenient when we needed something else. However, we checked in and proceeded to unload the car. On our way in the desk clerk said their system messed up and she needed my card again. So I had to stop with a cart of stuff and re-check in. The room was clean and an average size but the shower had mold as well as the grout in between the tile was as dark as the tile in many areas. This is usually a sign of things not being cleaned adequately but I have seen worse. When we looked at the window the screen was hanging off but it was 90 degrees so we weren't going to open the window. We proceeded to head to the pool where we were greeted with a sign that said the pool was being renovated but open. This proved to be an excuse as evidenced in the photos. The paint is flaking off everywhere even in the pool when swimming, there is paint and outside debris on the floor, huge areas of mold on the wall where it is coming through the paint they tried to cover it up with, the outside windows are wide open with no screens, pool ladder is broken (no sign on it) , and the pool sign says limit 5 people (for a 3 floor hotel). We ended up heading to dinner and when we came back one of our group (there were 4 of us) was cold so we called down (9:30 )and asked for an extra blanket and towels. My husband was told they would be brought up. 30 minutes later they aren't there so he calls back. They said they don't deliver stuff this late we needed to come down. He also asked for more makeup remover wipes (there was only 1 toiletry of each and I had registered for 4 people) and was told they didn't have any. We came down and I asked the clerk who told my husband they would bring it up and how many people were working. She kept saying there is normally 1 person who works at night. Surprise there was another person working so I asked them why no one called us to say they weren't bringing it up to which she replied the other girl was new and must have forgotten. At that point she started being rude and I brought up my safety concerns with the still open windows etc and she basically told me it was fine. Yet the parking lot has signs that say basically you park at your own risk. The next morning when we had house keeping knock on our door almost 2 hours before checkout. We told them we weren't leaving yet and did ask about more toiletries. Surprise they had make up remover wipes. At check out I asked for a printed receipt showing I had checked out and total so I could make sure there were no added expense and the GM got an attitude. I also told her I was going to be contacting corporate to which she said nothing, didn't ask what was wrong, or offer to help. I did give it 2 stars because the breakfast was good and had a nice variety, the beds were comfortable and there were enough pillows. I do want to note I would NOT stay here again or recommend it to anyone. When we were leaving the side doors were propped open, the pool door and windows were open and that area had not been cleaned up even after me saying something about it last night. The open doors and windows are a safety risk. They do have cameras but they are not monitored. The screens are at the front desk and every time I went to the front desk no one was there. Even during check out and check in times. If I could I would give it 1 1/2 stars. Edited to add: The employees stand right outside the main doors and smoke so it goes right in your face yet they are a non-smoking hotel
