I just this past Friday had a right hip replacement surgery at the Wilmington Hospital. It is now…read moreSunday... two days later. I had pre-op consultation about 2 weeks before surgery. Reviewing doctor was excellent. Very experienced and covered all the bases and reviewed all my medical records thoroughly for any potential issues. The day of surgery... arrived 7:30 am, had to wait a couple hours.... no big deal there. Pre-surgery intake went well and smoothly. The male nurse was professional and competent. The doctor overseeing the department was excellent. He really took care of me. Off to surgery and anesthesiology was next. Limited interaction with them as I was soon unconscious. Less than 2 hours later I was in anesthesiology recovery. The Brazilian nurse who was attending me was excellent, caring, competent and attentive. Once I was fully awake and able to move my legs again, then off to post surgery ward... the "princess" ward as it is known as. I landed up having to stay the night there as I didn't qualify for release. Met with PT gal.... who showed me the correct way to use my walker, climb stairs, get into car, get dressed, put on socks and shoes. She was very good, very kind and very funny. Thanks. The nurse who attended me that night was excellent. She took good care of me... brought me dinner (quite adequate), multiple visits throughout the long night to administer meds, anti-biotics and check my vitals, oversaw my bathroom visits and monitored my overall progress. She even took me for a 4 am spin around the ward with my walker. Really great nurse.....! Thanks... you know who you are. Next morning, shift change.... new nurse who took care of me till release. Breakfast delivery was polite and friendly.... Again the meal was very adequate...! After breakfast the nurse checked me over again and thought I was a good candidate for release that morning. The on duty doctor came around to check on me and review my progress from the previous night..... the same great Doc who did my pre-surgery evaluation two weeks before. He remembered me well. He evaluated me and gave me permission to be released that morning. Then the nurse took me on my exercise loop, PT checked in with me one more time to see if I needed any review of previous instructions. I also had a visit from my surgeons PA to check in with me. Again, she was very good and arranged for my meds which was an issue as my local Walgreens had run out of one of the meds. PA got things squared away. Nurse supervised me dressing and getting ready for departure. My brother picked me up and the nurse brought me down to the car and helped me to correctly get from the wheel chair into the car. She was great. Here I am, just two days later, resting and getting in my hourly walk. I'm able to do it without my walker or even a walking stick. Able to go up 13 steps to the second floor. I'm sore but expected to be after a complete hip surgery. Taking my meds but don't feel the need to take the oxy. My pain is tolerable and the icepack helps. So, in conclusion... my osteo from First State Ortho were fantastic; their surgery was flawless; every member of staff that I interacted with at Wilmington Hospital, (and I went through many hands during my short stay there), were all excellent. They were good at their jobs, professional, competent, caring, kind and compassionate. My deepest gratitude to you all.... I will not mention all your names, but thank you, thank you.... thank you.....! I really appreciate you all. I have ZERO complaints in my overall experience. I look forward to a full recovery and regain 100% of use in my right hip.

The quality of care is excellent for patients on the oncology ward (my husband) or in the Medical…read moreObservation Unit, (me), BUT my husband had an outpatient surgery last week. The team performing the procedure told him he would have to return for another, more in depth procedure on May 19, tomorrow, that would necessitate his staying in the hospital for 3-5 days. No one has called to tell us what time he has to be there, where in the hospital to go, or what the procedure might be. The woman my husband spoke to this afternoon said he was probably having a spinal tap, which he already had last week. Two spinal taps in a week's time, he asked. She didn't know why he needed another. He has called 4 or 5 times all afternoon and into the evening. No reply. Furthermore, they might want to retrain some folks in their billing department. My husband has Medicare Parts A and B, a Highmark supplement, and is enrolled in the plan for Delawareans with cancer who are on a limited budget. Nevertheless, he got a bill--not itemized --for $1846. Friday. Turns out no one at the billing department bothered to bill my husband's supplemental insurance or the insurance for Delawareans with cancer. The billing department just assumed my husband would cheerfully pay the $1800 plus bill. Get real. My family told us to go to John's Hopkins or Sloan Kettering for a second opinion and my husband's treatment. I wish I had listened to them.if it weren't for the courteous staff and good experience I had in the MOU, I would have rated my review a zero.

I came to Nemours outpatient imaging for a hip ultrasound for my 6 week old baby for being breech…read moreat birth. From start to finish, I was very impressed with Nemours. They were great scheduling the appointment, getting our insurance information and explaining all the necessary info before the appointment. When we checked in, the woman at the desk was astounding! She was kind, thorough and explained everything that needed explaining. She set expectations on wait time and what to expect for the visit. She deserves a raise! My husband and I were SO happy with her care. They brought us back very quickly and the ultrasound tech was kind and efficient. She also explained everything. She then checked with the radiologist to make sure she got enough images and we were out the door in 30 minutes total. There is free parking on site and plenty of it. Even the greeter at the front door was very sweet and helpful. My husband and I both work in healthcare, and since moving to PA, we've been VERY disappointed in the medical systems here in the North East. Everything we've encountered in PA has been horrible until now. Maybe it's because it's Delaware but I think it's more that Nemours is just well run. Good job Nemours! I hope not to have any complications with our son that require you're care, but if I do, I know we'll be in good hands!

I do get that because a lot of people were there on a Monday at 11:30am. The rooms were nice. I would recommend here for your child/children.

what I personally experienced at this facility. I felt compelled to contact The Joint Commission…read morebecause what my mother endured was deeply disturbing. During her stay, I repeatedly found used syringes, butterfly needles left in her bed, empty fluid bags, and trach care supplies with dried or solidified residue. I personally witnessed concerning cleanliness issues on nearly every visit. I often had to clean TPN lines, IV lines, pulse ox cords, bed rails, and even address visible fecal matter on her mattress myself. No family should walk into those conditions. My mother became so fearful and uncomfortable that she often begged me not to leave. Because she was extremely weak and her hands had begun to contract, making it difficult to use the call bell, I set her iPhone to automatically answer my calls so I could monitor her remotely. There were nights I stayed awake simply watching over her because I did not feel she was safe. I frequently had to call the nurses' station myself to ask staff to check on her, change her, or suction her trach. My experience with night staff was especially alarming and consistently raised serious concerns about attentiveness, urgency, and patient safety. I also strongly encourage families to closely monitor MyChart documentation. I personally reviewed notes that suggested care, checks, or services were performed when I was physically present and did not witness those interactions taking place. On multiple occasions, I found myself questioning how certain charted entries could be accurate based on what I directly observed. For my family, this was not just disappointing -- it was traumatic. What should have been a place of healing often felt like a place where I had to personally fight for my mother's basic dignity, cleanliness, and care.

My mom had a breathing tube and could not speak - the nurse call button was nowhere near her bed. She had a lung infection and they were cleaning the dialysis machine right next to her with bleach. When she was sent down to ICU they either threw her belongings away, accidentally sent them to the outsourced laundry company or someone took them. They were never found so no one is certain. It was the worst hospital our family has ever experienced. Do NOT send your loved ones there; it was a disgrace.
