Currently they're running Camp Do Good donation drives.
    John S.

I donate platelets now after donating blood for years. I've been here several times and the staff has always been friendly and helpful from check in to post donation. If it's your first time they will explain what they're doing and what the procedure is. If you can donate blood or platelets please do. 1 Platelet donation can save several lives.

How she left my left arm.

I had an appointment today 8/21/21 at 1:30PM at the 2888 March Lane Stockton, CA office. This would have been my 2nd platelet donation. I've donated blood twice and platelets once. My prior three visits I was helped by a young women named Carol who has always been fantastic. Very nice, great at explaining everything, she has always taken care of me. Today it looked like Carol was off. So someone else helped me. She was an older woman, I didn't get her name, she didn't introduce herself and I didn't see a name badge. I wore my mask because I read that masks were required of everyone regardless of vaccination status. The employee who helped me wasn't wearing her mask. She took me to a room in the back to get my interview process started. About 5 minutes in she realized she didn't have a mask on and left the room to get one. She said she had just finished her lunch, that she had left a mess in the back, and she had forgotten her mask. She returned, then a few minutes later she left again because she didn't know where her stethoscope was. So she left the room for a few more minutes to find it. When the interview was done, she asked if I was going to watch Netflix or a movie. I said I was going to watch a movie. She said that she "didn't have my kit ready", so I had plenty of time to pick out a movie. It didn't take me very long to pick one. So I stood around waiting for her to finish prepping. She fiddles with the tv for several minutes because she can't figure out what input to put the tv on to get the dvd player to work. I watched her switch to every input option on the tv. She even unplugged the dvd player from the tv to make sure it was input 3. After she plugged it back in I asked her, is the dvd player on? She said, oh yeah. It has to be on! That was the problem. At this point I'm irritated, but still going along with the process because I felt good about donating to help people. I sit in the chair and she looks at my arms to examine my veins. She then gets a marker and says she's going to mark my arm to help her find my veins later. I've never in my entire life had someone mark my arm to find my vein. But I thought, whatever helps her. I assumed she'd be making like a dot or a little mark. This woman made 4 long marks on each of my arms. So I started to get really nervous. I told her no one has ever needed to do that before. She said "everyone is different". (I've never in my life had any issues with someone being able to find my vein.) I explained that I was getting nervous now and that I didn't like that she needed to mark me up so much. She said not to be nervous. She attempted to put a needle in my left arm and it immediately hurt. she said something about needing to get a drip going, and that it wasn't dripping. She called someone else over to look at the machine and tell her if there was a drip. She said it was really slow. So she moved the needle and tape. The other employee said the drip was going and then immediately said, it stopped. It completely stopped. So my attendant moved the needle again until the drip was "good". Seconds later my arm is in pain. It's never felt like that before. I tell both employees this. That it hurts and isn't stopping. I tell them when I first gave platelets with Carol it didn't hurt. The old woman who's been helping me said that maybe Carol does it differently, and that maybe I should come back when Carol is working. She asks me if I want to stop. I'm panicking inside because I've lost all confidence in this woman and I don't want to be in pain anymore so I said yes. Just stop. So she pulls the needle out and says "oh yeah, that wasn't in right". WHAT?!? I am now livid inside. The other employee who helped with the drip asks if she wants me to let her try and that she'll only try if she's 100% confident she can get it. I let her try. She looks at my left hand and then my right forearm to see if she can get just one needle in the right arm. She says she's not 100% confident, so we should just call it a day and try another time. She thanked me. So I left without being able to give any donation and I'm sitting here in pain as I write this. I wish I had gotten the incompetent woman's name. I don't imagine that I'll ever be back. I would recommend that someone observes her as she works to see if she's fit for this position. As a donor who has no obligation to give several hours of my time and volunteer to feel discomfort and some pain, her bedside manner was severely lacking and I am extremely doubtful in her abilities to get her job done while encouraging donors to return.

Do you really want to see me after a pint of ice cream?? No, you dont. When I lived with the parents the DBB would call our house 3 times to remind me, my sister, and my mom that our post donation waiting period was up and we could donate again. Yes, the lady would call leave a message for me, hang up, dial the same number, leave a message for my sister, hand up AGAIN, dial the same number AGAIN, and finally leave a message for my mom. That's worth annoyed 5 stars right there. It's a good cause..doesnt take too much time...just do it.

I've been donating blood since I was seventeen as a Navy recruit. I've donated blood in our ports-of-call all over the world. We used to call the Red Cross nurses "vampires", because we knew they wanted our blood when they came aboard. I've never asked anything in return for these donations but I have been given many different things. The main reason I began to give blood because the Navy would serve you a New York strip steak at dinner if you showed them your donation card. It was great for a kid that only weighed 125 pounds! I only have a little over five gallons credited with the Delta Blood Bank since we have moved here from Illinois. They have always treated me well and the donation sites are clean and the employees are very professional. I'm not much on the cookies and hot dogs, but I do enjoy the apple juice after donating. The new system of accumulating points is very interesting. I currently have about 200 points and it's fun to use their computer to see what I can get if I redeem them. Donating blood for me isn't about the steak, cookies, hot dogs or apple juice. It's about helping another human survive another day, week, month or year with a commodity only we have. It can't be manufactured or taken from animals, it's ours and ours to share only if we choose. In this age of "ME" and "what can I get" it's comforting to know there are a lot of folks like me willing to share their time and a very valuable fluid for no pay or very little personal gain. I'll soon be 57 I've been donating for 40 years and have no inclination of stopping my visits to the blood bank any time soon. I did ask the employees not to call me anymore. After all this time, I know when it's time to donate. Encourage one another. "Save a Life, Give Blood"

I have scabs all through my head my right ear got so big and it's just leaking my thyroids were inflamed. So I went to the ER about 2:30 a.m. and I got out of there by 5:30 a.m. I got two shots one of each arm and one on my right side it hurts so bad and then I got ibuprofen so I told them I will pick up my prescription at my pharmacist I don't know if I should have opened my mouth and told them I don't have no money but they the medication came up to $35 the next time I go into the ER I'm going to be very clear with them I don't care if you got to give me the off-brand $35 is a lot I could have did a lot with that. My mother and I have committed to begin donating as often as they will let you here in the Turlock, California location at 655 Hawkeye which is super clean and very well organized. They also say they are in continuous need of platelet donations as this type of donation goes to help those with cancer as an example. They are also forthcoming as to the differences in platelet versus a standard blood donation. This means plan on being there for at least 2 hours. One day I'd like to do this but not at this time. We had such an enjoyable experience here; everyone was so nice and down-to-earth. I've never had a donation move so swiftly; done in just over 20 minutes! + Zero bruising for me and my mom with the fragile body; skin and all. They took wonderful attentive care of her. They have a snack table there as usual and customary filled with sweet foods and juices and water since you have to stay for a few minutes afterward to ensure you replace some of the nutrients you are missing not to mention the fluid volume reduction. PERKS! * They have an online portal in which, as required, you'll locate a lengthy questionnaire that must be completed prior to each donation. I understand they have an APP too for convenience. * You can also fill out this form on their website. I recommend doing that if possible as it saves you time. * Plenty of parking with a clean parking lot as well that is handicapped friendly. *The act of donating is such a precious priceless gift is humanitarian and philanthropic and feels wonderful and caring & helps so many.
