There was a teen room that had computers, air hockey table, pool table, video games, bean bag chairs. Was disappointed that the video games were not available due to not having staff for that area. The double basketball court was nice except all the balls were very warn and on the flat side. The indoor pools were nice and the locker rooms were clean. Remember to bring your own lock for the lockers. The workout room had a good variety of equipment. Plenty of washcloths available. I saw several different workout classes. Overall it is a very nice place for the family.

I am writing this review in April of 2026…read more If I were looking for a facility for inpatient or outpatient rehab for myself or a relative, based on some of the reviews here, I would definitely not choose Friendship South. However, I am glad I did not read these reviews when I had to make such a decision for myself about two years ago. For one thing, all of the few reviews here were written more than five years ago. While I have no reason to doubt that the writers are giving their best honest accounts of their experiences with Friendship South, a lot can change over such a time span. (Note: Friendship has several facilities in the Roanoke Valley, which can lead to some confusion; see my note at the end of this review concerning a possible case of such confusion. As the map shows, this forum concerns specifically Friendship South health and rehab on Starkey Road.) I have been an inpatient at Friendship South twice (most recently during January and February of this year) and an outpatient for three stints -- each lasting several months -- over the past two years. I am currently undergoing outpatient therapy for recovery from a back operation. Over the past twenty years, several of my friends and relatives -- including my mother -- have had to spend time in rehab facilities in the Roanoke Valley, so I've seen the good, the not so good and the indifferent (I had to move my mother once). My one exposure to Friendship South was about four years ago when I visited a friend in his 90s who was an inpatient recovering from some procedure. He was in such good humor and spoke so positively about the facility and how he was being cared for that when --- a couple of years later --- I had to decide where I wanted to be sent to recover from a torn ligament in my hip, I didn't hesitate to choose Friendship South. Now, everyone's experience is unique, and mine is as an almost-eighty-year-old man in pretty good health. I have not needed long-term care for a chronic condition or for physical and/or mental decline. I also know that every medical facility is short-staffed, mainly because there is just a shortage of medical professionals at every level. I can say that, almost without exception, every contact or interaction I've had with Friendship South staff -- medical, financial, management, whatever -- has been positive. I've always been treated with courtesy and respect. Has everything I've asked for or every situation I think needs to be addressed been accomplished as quickly as I'd like? Of course not. But I know there are patients whose needs are greater and more urgent than mine. Some need almost around-the-clock attention. My experience with outpatient therapy has been overwhelmingly positive. Turnover is low. I'm still being helped by the same team of therapists who helped me two years ago. They like where they work. They are experienced and competent with a contagious positive attitude. I have come to consider them friends. And most important, what they do and have me do works! Concerning another review: not a criticism, but a clarification. Michelle P. says, "They cannot even light the fireplaces during Christmas for the permanent residents to enjoy." My understanding from conversations with staff at Friendship South is that it has no actual permanent residents; it is a skilled nursing facility where people go for temporary rehab and therapy. Friendship has several facilities in the Roanoke Valley; some are residential nursing homes. Perhaps your experience was with one of the other facilities. Yelp has the heading of this page as just "Friendship," which could contribute to some confusion. To assure myself that I was reviewing Friendship South specifically, I consulted the map on the page.

This location was newer, clean and secure. I chose a safe area that was monitored (during office hours) and near other businesses. There isn't a time commitment. You just need to pay by the first on the month. If you give notice & move out before the end of a month you won't be charged for the next month. Insurance is required either from your home owners policy or purchased from the company. There was an issue with being able to safely leave the grounds after hours. My code didn't work. We had to get creative at finding a way out. The problem was frustrating & preventable. I think I am the guinea pig for helping people to prevent this from happening to someone else. Emergency numbers need to be placed at all keypads. I was called a few days later with a temporary code that will work while mine gets fixed.

Bagged trash and recycled items are allowed. It is convenient when the closest grocery store is 12 miles away. The web site says that the place is open 7am - 7pm. Other information says "daylight hours." Larger items are not allowed. The posted signs convey that video surveillance is taking place. This place is busy. There is a steady trickle of cars throughout the day. I have stopped by at 10am and 4pm. I have only been by myself one time.

A mission-driven on-site coffee shop supporting international outreach. The Core Global Initiatives of the Organization is multifaceted. First is their Refugee Support. Assisting refugees in the Middle East and Middle Eastern families resettling in the Roanoke Valley. Second is their Clean Water Program. Installing sustainable water wells in South Asia and Uganda. Third is Women's Empowerment. Teaching Entrepreneurial, leatherwork, and sewing skills through the Nation's Hope Store program. And Fourth is Yourh & Child Welfare. Funding residential care and education for at-risk youth via the "Rev Home" initiative in Haiti. I had an opportunity of meeting and speaking to Kenzie the Café Manager. She told me how at the Go Center their Mission is to ignite a passion to show and share God's love with all nations. She told me the story of the Go Center. How on May 15, 2023 they purchased the run down building which is now the Go Center, and how with a big dream, lots of faith, the dedication of their amazing volunteers and staff, and the grace of God, through hard work and prayer the renovations paid off transforming the center to the beautiful place it is today. How with the help of God and for His glory, they had opened their doors debt free to the public on November 1st of last year with Global Blend Café and Global Adventure. From walking around the center I could see how their labor of love and great faith in God had transformed a run-down building into a beautiful one. A symbol of hope and how God works in mysterious ways through those who show their faith by their actions. At their Global Blend Café, I ordered an American Breakfast with egg, which was a breakfast sandwich made with my choice of a Croissant, Bacon, Egg, and Cheddar Cheese. Honestly, it was the best breakfast sandwich that I have ever had. And to drink I had an Iced Samoa Latte, which contained coconut, caramel, and chocolate. It was amazingly delicious as well. Then they had tables with comfortable chairs both in the outside large porch and in the inside dining area around the Nations' Hope Store with meaningful, artesan-made gifts created through their micro-business training programs, helping families overcome poverty. Still, after several visits and phone calls, there's no denying that the staff who have helped me know what they're doing and I can trust them. The high-tech comprehensive eye exam, and multiple rooms that you move in and out of have soft lighting and have helpful info posters. The two staff that we've interacted with are knowledgable and patient enough to answer any questions we have without unnecessary attitude, and making appointments is as easy as a quick phone call. The wait has never been too long, and there's a TV screen in the small waiting room that seems to have eye health-related commercials on a loop that can be interesting to watch. I'd recommend this place.
