The Red Cross refused to help me or my family in any way shape or form. I was initially told that "I waited too long to contact the Red Cross." Then I was told that I was denied any assistance for another reason, but the Red Cross refused to tell me for what reason I was denied and refused to discuss my case with me because they put my date of birth in the system incorrectly. I received zero support, zero answers, and zero respect. I am extremely disappointed in the Red Cross and would never recommend their assistance to anyone else in need. I lost my entire house and everything in it and will now have to completely rebuild my life and my children's lives. Folks in Dunwoody have been watching a WSB-TV video of a Red Cross "volunteer" who was filmed at the Parkwood Village apartment complex at 4920 Winters Chapel Road. Instead of stating specific actions she, as a Red Cross "volunteer," was doing to help others, she talked about herself and what she needed to do. Supposedly, she has been a Red Cross "volunteer" for years, yet she clearly didn't know what to do. Instead, she said she needed to do things. She talked about herself rather than taking action to help others. Her job as a volunteer is to help others rather than pontificate about herself. Talk and no action are damaging to us, the fire victims. Doesn't the Red Cross train its volunteers? This is the worst representation of the Red Cross I have ever seen. I went to the Red Cross Donation center in Fayetteville Georgia on Dec 14, 2022 It was for a platelet donation. They put a needle in my left arm and ran it through a machine to take out the platelets and the inserted a needle in my right arm to return the blood less the platelets to my right arm. I've done this many time just not in Georgia The was pain but I thought it was a the needle and the technician left so I could not question her so I figured it was just a dull-needle After 45 minutes she return because the computer told her something was wrong. I had a tennis ball size lump on my upper right arm. Instead of going into my vein it wen someplace else and accumulated there. She told me " this happens. It has happened in the past and will happen in the future" The she offered me some cookies and said I could leave. I almost fainted when going out the door The tennis ball sized lump of blood spread through my upper arm to my hand and they turned black. Eventually black and blue. The pain was intense I went to my doctor who never heard of this and she advised Tylenol for the pain Later I went to Piedmont Fayetteville emergency room where they asked me constantly how I fell because she had never heard of this either and gave me some useless prescriptions and told me to take Tylenol for the pain. Google Tylenol overdose and you will see stomach pain nausea sleepless nights, massive headaches and you will get an idea how these doctors "helped" me. The technician who disappeared for 45 minutes asked me why I did not call her? I had no idea where she was. She told me she was on the other side of the wall like I had X-ray vision or something Then she told me I could have some cookies and leave. I should have brought a whistle! But after giving platelets literally dozens of time I had no idea that the Red Cross had become so inadequate to donors needs. Stay away from these people and if you do want to donate platelets bring a whistle to blow. It may save your life. So I don't know how this industry works or how valuable my platelets are but I donated platelets which was painful and lasted 2.5 hours and now I am lambasted with calls and e-mails offering me $10 gift cards and using guilt tactics. I hate needles, especially in my flesh. But I love Red Cross because they make it as painless as possible to literally save lives. The hard truth is that without blood donation, we'd lose a lot more friends and relatives than we do. They'll call to remind you to come back in, even if you don't want them to, but it's for a good cause. And hey, you get a free cholesterol test out of it. American Red Cross - The new donor center - CPR Classes Near Me - Atlanta, Georgia

American Red Cross does a horrible job. I saw an advertisement saying there was a desperate need for blood. So, I signed up to donate some. But an hour or so before my appointment they called and said they'd run out of supplies. The next time I tried to sign up online to donate blood. The website said I was signed up but I never got a confirmation email. I tried to find information on their website, but their website kept popping up annoying errors because I wouldn't let it access my location. Then, I tried to call to confirm my appointment, but had a really hard time finding the right phone number to call. After calling three or four phone numbers and not being able to speak to anyone I finally found the right phone number. I related my experience and the lady said that their technology had failed to register my appointment. I asked her to relate my frustration to management and she refused, saying all calls are recorded and if anyone cared they'd listen to the phone call. Well, obviously no one at American Red Cross cares which explains why there's always a 'desperate need for blood.' read more

I had booked an appointment online for 3pm today at this center to donate blood since I heard that we were experiencing a shortage due to the coronavirus. Upon arriving at 3:02pm for my 3pm appointment (In the emails I received it did not state to come early), I find the entrance locked. My wife and I notice on the note on the door that the hospital closes on Mondays at 3. But then why did they allow me to book an appointment at 3 for this location? After a while of waiting trying to figure out who to call for my 3pm appointment, a woman leaves and tells me there are still people inside, and lets us in. I find the woman at the front desk who tells me that they're closed. I tell her about my appointment, and she checks her paperwork, takes my temperature and tells me to check the back. After wandering around some hallways, I find the room she's referring to and tell them I have a 3pm appointment. They tell me it's 3:08pm now and that they have a 5 minute grace period (again none of this is mentioned in their emails), and that they're closed for the day and will not allow me to donate blood. I end up leaving perturbed and frustrated since here I am trying to do something good during this time, and they just wasted my time. I'm unhappy for several reasons: 1. If the place closes at 3pm, don't allow people to book 3pm slots. They should change their online time slots and avoid this confusion/ frustrating experience from happening to others. 2. I was there on time. If I wasn't locked out, wasting time at the front desk checking in, and finding the room at the back, I would have been in the blood donation room "on time". Either have better communication between the front desk and the back room (to let them know I'm here for my appointment) or please inform in the emails that you encourage people to arrive early for their times so that they may checkin and make it punctually for their appointment, since they apparently have a 5 minute grace period. 3. I'm unhappy that the people who would be getting my blood in the backroom (who may or may not be volunteers) seemed to be scheduled to stay until 4:15ish, and they turned me away during this hectic time so that they could go home early. Laziness during this crisis is the last thing we need! Especially when we could be saving lives. read more

I made an appointment at this location for noon after they repeatedly call me for blood! I get here only to be rudely told "we behind it will be at least 30 minutes before they will even get to me!" This location opens up at 12 so why would you be behind?! And what's the purpose of making an appointment?!?! Horrible location but I will find another who runs operations better! read more

I truly believe that all healthy adults who are able should donate blood regularly. Yes, the ARC calls my cell phone and harasses me relentlessly until I agree to make an appointment, but they are right-- I should go every 8 weeks. The main donor center on Monroe is really nice and clean and the staff is really friendly and efficient. My experiences there have been so good that I have quit going to blood drives all together, where I feel like the staff are usually not very professional and are not considerate of my time. Trying to make donation a regular thing. Came around noon on a Saturday as a walk-in, so that is probably going to affect this rating. In general, I had only a few problems. The location is easy to find (off of Monroe Drive) and the location is clean. The people working there are nice. The wait was a while (I was there probably 1.5 hour before I got my blood drawn, so I shall bring a book next time) but I was guessing along to 'High Q' that was playing on TV. The people were really nice, however, one assistant did have a strenuous time getting my blood to flow. Usually, I have no problems with the flow and am in and out in no seconds. However, she managed to miss my vein somehow and so it was only dripping, which caused the machine to beep at us every five minutes. I don't understand how she missed because at least three additional nurses came over and commented on how 'big and juicy' they are (I should eat a garlic bagel for breakfast next time just in case) but eventually it all got done. Next time, I will schedule an appointment, which may improve this process. Hopefully I won't have a hard time with my veins though. read more

I started giving platelets as regularly as I could when I was still in college, so I've been visiting this donor center for years. After one too many instances of poor customer service, I will never go back to this donor center. I am still a believer in blood donation and platelet donation (if you've got the patience), and since it all ends up in the same place in the end, you might as well go to a location where you're appreciated. The nurses here have NO bedside manner. I was criticized for having small veins or not holding my arm the right way when they couldn't properly stick me the first or second time. Even when I didn't have enough iron, despite eating the right foods and taking vitamins, I was made to feel as if I had wasted their time. Also, be prepared to wait. The least I've ever waited for an appointment that I was on time for was 15 minutes, and that was just to get back into the screening room. Please donate, please give blood, but choose a different donor center! read more

YOU CAN SAVE A LIFE! I've been going here every two weeks for a few years now to donate platelets. Yea, it's not decorated as nice as your favorite restaurant, but they do provide free juices and snacks. The chairs may not be as comfortable as the theater you like to visit, but the donated movie library is free. Sure it takes some time out of your day to donate, but to a complete stranger your donation might mean time does not run out altogether. And more than any place you're ever reviewed, the staff here is dedicated. They are always happy to see you and they work really hard to make sure you are comfortable during your brief visit. Much like your favorite businesses, they do have loyalty programs. You might get a free t-shirt or coupons for discounts at area businesses. But most of all, perhaps not even your favorite place of worship can give you the same good feeling in your soul every time you walk out the front door. I recommend the American Red Cross. read more

I donate whole blood as regularly as I can and donate platelets in between whole blood donations. So, I spend a fair amount of time hanging out at this Red Cross location. Some of the staff is a bit rough around the edges and could use some direction on their bedside manner. But, for the most part, the staff is nice and willing to help with anything you need while donating (like itching your nose while donating platelets because you can't move your arms!). I try to make appointments in advance but they will always fit you in if you are a walk-in, so don't be shy about stopping in! read more

I've donated blood twice and I'm scheduled for another visit. So far I've had no problem with this location. It's straight forward to make an appointment online. They follow up with a couple emails and all you need to do is show up. What I like the most about this is that I'm not badgered to donate! Lastly they have some great post donation snacks! read more

The Atlanta Metropolitan chapter of the American Red Cross holds CPR Saturday annually in March. CPR Saturday is a county wide initiative that teaches people how to provide CPR and save lives in case of an emergency. This four hour training sessions is filled with instructional videos, dummy simulation, testing and of course certification. Over 400 people donated the blood, packed red cells, plates and plasma that gave my boys (then 4 and 8) an extra 18 months with their dad. If you want praise for donating or commiseration if it goes badly, and you aren't satisfied with what the staff gave you, call me (Six-seven-eight, 522, one eight two 4). Don't quit donating. My son and I can't donate enough ourselves to make up for it. (One son developed Guillain-Barre a couple of years ago and can't donate any more.) As for bad experiences, in the course of over 100 donations (You live long enough, 2-4 times a year adds up!) I've had a few where I got woozy and a one where I couldn't drive home, even after two hours, (which was at this location, and the staff was so sweet to me) but most were uneventful. read more

I have donated blood here 3 times. They have good hours so I can fit it in my schedule. One of the three times I have gotten a bruise from donating but this last time David Smith did not leave a bruise. He is soooo good and I am going to request him next try. I have small veins and many phlebotomists miss it on the first time. The actual donation took exactly 5 minutes because I had been drinking extra water all day. This is my go-to spot for donations aside from the occasional mobile blood drive. Te process is pretty straightforward. Things go a bit faster if you have an appointment but depending on what you are donating, walk-in donations are an option too. The intake process takes an extra 30 minutes before you even get set-up on a machine but it seems like over time Red Cross is implementing new processes to make check-in easier (like RapidPass) while still maintaining high standards regarding safety, identity verification, and proper handling of information. I even noticed the Wi-Fi and internet connections were a bit better than the past few times I have donated. I just wish they would upgrade the movie selections. Maybe Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options for casting and streaming can be something to look into for the future then people can watch or listen to what they like. read more

Made an appointment this morning to give blood here. I was turned away at the reception desk and escorted out the door. There were about 8 people sitting in the waiting area. The ARC employee explained that 'sorry we are not able to take donors today. They are just waiting around.' It seemed a bit more like they just didn't want to work today. read more

Donate blood and platelets!! I went here and donated some platelets. It was an easy process. I was made to be very comfortable for the 3 hour process. My only issue with it all was how long it all took. I wish the intake part of it all was faster. And, when all the paperwork was done - I wish the bedding and machine was already set up so I didn't have to sit there for 20-30 minutes waiting for it to be set up for me. This however will not stop me from donating in the future. read more

What they do is an amazing thing. I have donated blood and platelets there. The staff was super friendly and easy to work with. It did take them while to get me set up even when they weren't busy but it wasn't terrible. The one thing I absolutely hate is after you donate they will blow up your phone constantly even ever repeatedly telling them to stop calling and that I will make an appointment when I can. I have had to block their number because they wouldn't stop calling. I do recommend donating cause it's a great thing to do, but do expect them so send you a lot of stuff in the mail and blowing up your phone to donate. read more

I donate blood whenever ARC mobile shows up at my work during a blood drive. About 3-4 times a year. I've had good and bad experiences but I've never been ignored and treated like a piece of meat like I was today. All of the staff chatted and laughed among themselves while ignoring the donors. No eye contact, no conversation only a few instructions grunted out when absolutely necessary. No personal attention, even when sticking the needle in my arm or handling me. This treatment was given to all the donors present. There were two staff members that did sometimes interact with donors. But that was it. This may have been my last donation. I usually feel good after donating blood, but today, I just felt used. read more

Today was my second time donating platelets, and my third total donation at this center. It went as well as a blood donation could, considering I was being stabbed in the arm, twice. I actually arrived about 45min early to my appointment time (2:30pm, Wednesday) but was taken back right away. I had RapidPass so the intake was quick and easy. I was in the chair within 10min of walking through the door. They were incredibly helpful. One staff member actually combed through the movie selection to hook me up. I was stuck in both arms fairly painlessly on the first try. Many staff members asked if I was OK throughout the 2-hour time I was sitting there. Chris (who did my first platelet draw last month) even took a selfie with me and my platelets at the end. If you're nervous and scared of the needle, the employees here will definitely walk you through and try to make you as comfortable as possible. I'd highly recommend this location. read more

Blood drives at work/church/school are convenient, but if you are able, please go to this location. The staff is wonderful and extremely friendly. They are warm and courteous and take extra care with newbies. I have given blood probably about a dozen times and of the few shaky experiences I've had, none have been at this location. After you turn off Monroe at the American Red Cross sign, go towards the left (to the right is an apartment complex). Go up the hill and you will see a large building and lots of parking to your right, but don't park there! Go towards the left again and back behind the building. There is ample parking and you will see a sign and door for the Blood Donation Center. Welcome, good samaritan! Here's what ya do: 1) Sign in. It helps to have an appointment, but walk-ins are more than welcome. 2) Read the information packet. Skim it even if you've been before, sometimes they change or add information. 3) Your name will be called and a nurse will walk with you to a room where he/she will take your blood pressure and temperature, prick your finger to check your iron level, and then leave you to answer a series of questions at the computer to evaluate whether or not you are fit to give blood. When you are done, flip the colored tab by the door so that your attending nurse knows to come back. You will then be asked if you have any questions and to sign a form verifying your answers, contact information, and consent to your donation. 4) The nurse will then take you to a chair in the main area where you will be set up to give blood. So exciting! A tourniquet, a little iodine, a prick, some squeezes of a stress ball, and usually about 15-20 min later you're done! Congratulations, you've just given a pint of blood and are on your way to help save a life!! After you fill the bag up, about 5 tubes of blood will also be taken for testing purposes to verify that your blood is suitable to donate. Needle out, gauze on, raise your arm up, bandage around the arm, and you, my fellow donor, are fini! 5) Take your time getting out of the chair and have a seat at the refreshment station where a bounty of sustenance is available to you. The refrigerator is stocked full of water and little juices. DON'T SKIP THIS STEP!! Take several minutes to rest, get some fluids back in you, and succumb to the sweet Keebler elves to boost your blood sugar. When you're feeling bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, grab a sticker from the long rectangular table and don't forget to recycle your poptabs and juice cans! Way to go, you have made a difference in someone's world!!! :) Tip: Drink LOTS of water before giving blood. A minimum of 2 bottles, seriously. You will give blood much quicker than if you are dehydrated and you will be much less likely to experience dizziness or feel lightheaded. And don't forget to eat! read more

This review is based on a recent call I got from the Red Cross. I'm a regular blood donor. I'd say I give maybe 3-4 times a year. Because I'm a regular donor, I get calls to solicit my donation when I'm eligible. I usually don't pick up, but this time I did. HUGE MISTAKE. The girl was incredibly rude when I said I wasn't sure when I'd be able to donate next. I prefer to go when my office sponsors drives & told her as much. She said they wouldn't be out there within the next 3 weeks & I said again I wasn't sure when I'd be able to get to a donation center. Her response? "I told you there are patients in need & we're at a critical shortage & you won't know if you might need blood!". That did it. Do you really think I'm going to be more inclined to donate if you essentially call me a heartless bitch because I'm not making an appointment on the spot? They REALLY need to work on the quality of person they hire on the phones. I'll donate again, but I'm definitely letting all future calls go to voicemail. read more

Was called multiple times to donate platelets and when I went, they told me they couldn't find my file. I must have donated platelets there at least 5 times. I could not believe they wasted my time when I had to drive through traffic there and back. Never donating again. read more

Today, there was very few people working, and they were taking walk-ins ahead of those with appointments. Waited for over 1/2 hour past our appointment.
