What a disappointment. Ive had this insurance company for over 25 years. It use to be an amazing company. After a buy out, the integrity of the company went out of the window. They have ZERO agents, which means all issues require calling customer service. It is quite obvious that they do not have enough. Customer service agents to handle the workload, as you will always be on hold for an hour or more to speak with an agent. I have been dealing with a policy issue for the last three weeks and I have called Customer Service over 15 times and my problem still exists. Every Customer Service agent seems to be reading off a script. When you req to speak to a manager, no one is conveniently ever available. So at this point, I started recording my conversations and I'm going to seek legal advice. This review is for the claims department at 800-333-2861. We opened a claim after a plumber caused flooding damage in our home. When I called to describe the nature of the damage, I was having difficulty communicating because this occurred 5 days after major surgery and it was incredibly stressful- although anytime an insurance claim needs to be filed is likely pretty stressful- either way the person taking down info recapped the description of the claim and refused to tell me what he wrote. When I asked to read it verbatim instead of telling me the gist, he told me I was nit picking and that he wouldn't tolerate it and needed to help other people and then hung up on me. Interesting approach on a recorded line. From here I called again and spoke to someone else who said she would text and email but I never received the communication which made it difficult to proceed. We also learned through this process that once a claim is opened - even if it is not paid, it impacts eligibility for future coverage from other insurance companies and flags you as undesirable as a policy holder. Yikes. Get all of the information, and do not expect much help. May all people working in this field be blessed and understand that they are talking to people in crisis and even if they are incapable of extending compassion, simple professionalism as a human decency goes a long way. read more

We've been dealing with plumbing issues since November 2023, and we filed our claim in December. As of today, the issue remains unresolved. Our basement has flooded multiple times, water damage has spread to our bathroom, and our backyard is completely destroyed. We've had to use our own money to make repairs where we could, all while waiting for any kind of meaningful response from this company. Despite numerous phone calls and emails, we are met with silence. When we do get a call back, it's always to inform us of yet another pointless step we have to take. Even after jumping through every hoop they've put in front of us, the process drags on with endless follow-ups, leaving us no choice but to drop them. However, since they are the insurer we initially filed with, they are responsible for finishing what they started. The contractors we've worked with are astounded by the absurd requirements and procedures they've been asked to follow. At one point, they were even being told how much they should be paying their laborers and what their equipment should cost. This entire ordeal has been an absolute nightmare. Don't get any type of insurance with American National insurance. I have had polices with them for over 40yrs. My first policy a new representative came and ask to take it and look it over, after I had paid for it 10yrs, and it was a 20yr policy. Needless to say, I never got it back and Noone would tell me what happened to it, after 10 more year someone cashed it in. We called Heather Hill and she was to get back with us, that was nearly a month ago. Today they withdrew an obscene amount from our bank. Two more calls placed to Ms. Hill with zero response. I was burglarized at my apartment complex. A thief was going around stealing out of people's garages. They stole over $15,000 of music recording gear and film photography gear out of my garage and I had renters insurance this happened back in the beginning November 2024. It is now going on February and I've given my insurance company everything that they've asked and now they're deciding to do a special investigations unit/lawsuit and trying to prove that I'm lying even though I specifically sent them the email from my apartment complex that has expressed its apologies for thieves going and stealing out of people's garages. I was not the only victim. instead of them just flat out telling me no they have been delaying this insurance claim for going on 4 months and now they want me to be intimidated by a lawyer. I lost my job and my apartment due to my inability to work on things being that my laptop was one of the items that was stolen and they insisted on give me only $3000 for my laptop and for all of my property that was stolen and since I wouldn't take it now they're trying to take me to court for it. I see why Luigi did what he did and I know that's a little extreme but man when you lose your apartment and your livelihood and your ability to create all because of a thief in you area and you expect to have insurance covering it and they don't it really sends you down a dark path. I was insured with this company for homeowner's, auto insurance, and general liability umbrella insurance for 24 years. They were bought out by Brookfield Reinsurance which significantly changed the direction of the company. I received a notice of non-renewal for my homeowners policy. I ran out the timeline on the existing policy, and then cancelled my auto policy and my liability umbrella. I moved all my business to a different insurance company in order to take advantage of bundle pricing. They continued to bill me for auto insurance even after I told my agent I was not going to be renewing with them. It took several months to straighten this out and get those charges cancelled. I was happy with American National for the longest time, but since they sold out to Brookfield Reinsurance it is not the same company anymore. read more

This company has horrible customer service. I highly recommend you shop around. My experience with them has been terrible, here's why. You'll set up on payments, you'll find some of the agencies want you to pay every 2 months vs. traditional 1 month payments. If for ANY reason the payment doesn't go through, they'll kick you off of "easy payment plan" and expect you'll catch this and pay manually. If you don't catch it right away, you'll find yourself owing several billing cycles worth of payment all at once. Nobody likes having a nasty little $550 bill waiting in the winds. Personally, I decided to transfer to another agency because the 2 month billing cycle was causing me problems, so I emailed an alternate agency that I transferred my motorcycle to. They couldn't decide for themselves whether that would be a good thing to do, so it was deferred to their "Higher Ups" for decision. I heard nothing back from them for over a week, so I emailed them and complained. To which they replied they aren't "comfortable" taking a customer from a different agency. As if that's a decision that isn't up to the customer. They were rude, they offered no apology for the delay. I'll be dropping any and all insurance from this company as soon as humanly possible. The headache just is NOT worth it. By the way, I've given them a lot of business. I have a 2021 Ram 1500 Big Horn, A Honda Goldwing motorcycle, and my home owners insurance with them. American National Insurance Company has been jerking me around for 3 years with one thing or another. They seem to have a problem with people claiming very old policies with the necessary paperwork-when original policy owners die. It appears they're trying to pocket money on very old policies. They act as if they don't know the laws regarding claims/ownership/beneficiaries etc., They take to long to process paperwork and when they do, they often make errors in name spellings, who actually owns the policy vs., the insured and how to resolve small issues. It's absolutely frustrating dealing with them and getting things resolved in a timely and efficient manner. I've sent them all the legal documents needed and they still haven't done as requested. I've reported them twice to the Department Of Insurance. American National Insurance needs an audit done by the state and if necessary charges and fines/class action lawsuit/s. after 40 years with auto and 35 with homeowners, I'm finished. One claim the entire time and that was 14 years ago, due to a hail storm. We had coverage for the HVAC unit and it lasted 23 years. He doesn't respond and while he may sound professional on the phone, his lack of professionalism in his actions will have you wondering why he's even chosen this profession. If you work with Kyle, my advice would be to make sure you follow up with EVERY action he takes to make sure he did it. Because he tends to fail at taking action so you'll want documentable confirmation that he did what he says he'll do. American National is a failing company that only cares about the bottom line. These are the least competent, least helpful company I have had the displeasure to do business with. Even when leaving for another insurance company, they find another way to make things worse. We cancelled our policy before going to a new agency, when they decided to charge us again, after assuring MULTIPLE times that we wouldn't be charged. So we were charged by two insurance companies the same day, causing an overdraft. When asked to correct their mistake, no one wanted to help, and everyone constantly lied to us, saying they'd call back, and they'd fix everything. I can honestly say I'm disappointed that I have to write this. My wife and I have been with ANPAC for 25 years. Auto, home and life policies. Never missed a payment. We had 1 claim on our house (leaky toilet that manifested 15 days after we too possession of the house) and the ensuing water damage. We had a small house fire in 2022 (still not back in our home yet...). We have been through 3 adjusters in the time since our claim was filed. Katie B. is the ONLY one that has been helpful through the process and actually put the screws to our construction contractor to get things done and help us get back to our home faster than was anticipated. The biggest surprise came in the mail today, a 30 day notice of them dropping our homeowners policy. Not a word from our agent or anyone at ANPAC, just a letter. Our premiums have been driven up on auto and home over the last few years, but we remained loyal and never missed a payment. This is our reward for that loyalty, when we finally needed something from them (the entire reason premiums are paid). I would recommend Nationwide or Farmer's over this pitiful excuse for an insurance company. The aforementioned have been far more helpful thus far...( yes, I realize that they are trying to gain my business). While ANPAC has not cancelled our auto policy, we will surely be transferring ALL of our business elsewhere. read more

He is terrible and it 100% reflects on this company for hiring and keeping him. He doesn't know how to read emails or open attachments, hangs up on your on purpose, and doesn't even double check his work if hes sending the correct info. Yes, he sent me someone else's claim, and insisted I was wrong. When I called him out on it, he proceeded to hang up on me mid conversation. That's the type of service you get from American National! our first agent insured the wrong car (i gave her the vin number but she still clicked on an old car I had owned). When I asked her to fix it she was super defensive. Next American National cancelled my rental house insurance because they hadn't followed up with my escrow company to make sure the bills were being sent to the correct address. American National didn't call me to let me know of the issue. They just cancelled my insurance and I was totally uninsured without my knowledge. So I switched the rental house to State Farm, and never had a problem again. Two months ago I got a letter from my escrow company for my home residence stating that American National hadn't sent them a bill in a year, and lots of phone calls to my agent had not been returned. so again, I am uninsured with one of my properties!!! i asked my agent why American National never called me to warn me that they are about to cancel my insurance, and he said they are not allowed to make phone calls because of legal reasons. What!!?? so I called State Farm in a panic and hope they can save me... again! read more

This company is not trust worthy at all... My mother has had a life insurance policy with them for the past 25+ years... She convinced me to get a life insurance policy with them what a mistake. I have had to call 5 times to try and make changes and every single time they have made it just about impossible to make the changes. One of their agents literally hung on me because I mentioned the fact we had been on hold for 50min and we got sent to an English speaking agent for the second time..... Then I finally got through the 5th time with an interpreter to get permission to speak on my mother's behalf. I got her forms emailed over and what do you know the electronic form won't allow me to select a non surrender box... If you have any policy with these people absolutely make sure you have physical copies of everything. They will make anything and everything dang near impossible when it's not making a payment to them, then it doesn't matter who's on the phone just have a credit card and done... They are REFUSING to cover the cost of the temporary water heater that was placed, to keep me in my home, and stating it's because my house wasn't deemed "unlivable". Only time I was able to reach my adjuster, Antoine Bell" is when I filed my claim. Would never answer the phone, emails, or return phone calls. They even switched my adjuster at some point without notification. Received a denial letter in the mail after receiving texts that payments were sent. I have tried to get answers and explanations and they have been unable to explain the $500 charge to my account. American National chain of insurance companies is good at taken your money, bad at service. Call their phone line, they call you "man" 5+ times, then blame you for signing up for policies. Being fair, reasonable, not ripping customers off for pennies would make good business sense. I am not surprised at the 100+ 1 star reviews of American National and all the subchain companies. Avoid!
