Outstanding service! Steve and Mitch are Kings. Could not recommend them more for muffler related issues. Fairly priced and quick service. Honest. Can't say enough good things! read more

I've been coming here for about 25 years! Mitch & Steve are a pleasure to work. Their shop is place where you get good work at a fair price. Highly recommended. read more

Steve and mitch are honest.Reasonabley priced and quality work by their mechanics.I highly recommend them.

Mitch is a classic .. it's worth the trip just to interact with this man .. he has been there longer than the building I think :-) I took my 1998 Land Rover Discover 1 to get a muffler, I showed up, he had it in the lift in minutes, had me under the truck , gave me an estimate. Yelled at me three times, made me laugh 2 times , and gave me a good price and told me to come back at 10:00am the next morning.. the work took a little longer that it should have, but he called me and told me. Even if you don't need a new muffler , it's worth going there just to meet Mitch :-) read more

Told me my alternator was bad when it wasn't ! Told me I needed new tires when I was there with a bad battery!

Highly recommend American Muffler for all your custom or original exhaust including anything your car needs. Steve, the owner is extremely knowledgeable in determining and troubleshooting anything that might arise. Mechanics Al and Shawn is spot on with fixing, repairing or replacing parts. They are an asset to the company. Prices can't be beat!!! With that I give them 5 stars. Billy A. read more

A shister operation. Beware. Deception. Unnecessary work. Ridiculous prices. Little guy owner will try to over talk you

Ok where to begin. I Googled to see if I can find a good reputable muffler shop around my job so I can get a simple muffle delete on my pick-up truck. I noticed these guys have 3 locations around Long Island so I figured, ok the more locations the better the shop quality. Checked the reviews on two separate site, google and yelp. Both gave a decent amount of good reviews. Google gave them 4starts and yelp with 3.5. Not bad so I proceeded with having these guys do the job. Called the shop made an appointment to get a quote. Noticed when talking on the phone they are very quick to the point that they won't let you speak and just want a yes or no type of conversation. I get a "yes, just bring in your car so we can take a look at it" my appointment was set on a Monday at 4pm. I rolled up to the bay and the older gentleman takes a look underneath to see what needs to be done. Explains that he can make a Y pipe weld all points and I'll be on my Mary way. Perfect let's get it done! "Yea we can do it real quick it will only take us 45min or so" it gets done is 40min truck comes down the bay and lights go out in the shop without me even getting a chance to inspect the job. I still peaked under the truck to see if they even welded the pipes together. Couldn't see the job very well so I left it as is but trusted the job was well done. Arrived home and to my surprise job was very sloppy on all welds done to the truck, not one single good weld. To confirm that the weld was bad and I was not going crazy I went ahead and showed a couple of family members friends and even went as far as my truck forum members to witness the sloppy job and they all say the same thing. "Bad welds all around". (Refer to pictures posted) Called two days after the job was done so the manager can look at the job because I was not satisfied with the welds. Excuses were made in regards to getting the truck back in the shop. He wasn't available pass 3:30pm something he didn't tell me prior to getting the job done. Had to take a day off work on a Tuesday at 8:30am in order for them to inspect the job that they had done previously. Once there the manager looks under the truck and says "what's wrong with the welds? they look good" at this point I was in total shock that this was the quality of this shop. Told manager if job looks good to him then bring my truck down and I'll be on my way. I'm not here to bad mouth the shop they do different types of work they might be good at but from my experience if you want a custom job DO NOT go here. Matter a fact if you want a weld done DO NOT go here, look at the pictures, even a simple weld around a pipe is done bad. Would not recommend. read more

Customer service is literally horrible. My boyfriend and I came in for an appointment at 12PM and he went to the front desk to check in and ask a question but the lady in the front desk told him to wait & gave such an ugly attitude. I called the shop to ask for her name and she put the owner on the phone and the owner was also a complete bitch and tried to defend her & her horrible customer service. Told us to go somewhere else. They don't care about their customers, don't come here. First and last time coming here read more

This place is great. Great customer service and they give you fair pricing. They explain the problem to you and give you a price before they do anything. Not like some places that just fix things and give you a bill Later without knowing if you can afford it or not. The guy at the desk is very funny, he jokes while you wait for your car. It was a pleasure doing business with them, they took care of my car. read more

What a bunch of.... No, I have more class than that. I must say though that the other reviewers were right. I should have heeded the warnings. Had a cat installed. They damaged the radiator which had no issues at all before that. Told me there was nothing they could do. Filled my reservoir and told me to go to the dealer. Went back next day and was refused service by the owners son who was outright rude. Taking the matter up with the dmv. Also reported them to the DEC which overlooks the state emissions program as they refused to run my inspection because it required a DEC waiver. I have no clue how this place has been in business for so long. read more

American Muffler - Auto Repair Near Me - Westbury, New York

Came here for an exhaust leak. Owner comes out listens to the car and says it's gonna be 1750 for new exhaust manifold. I said wow let's look under my truck, then said it was cracked and leaking on both sides. I asked him to show me and he goes "oh it's there I just saw it somewhere in this area" I said no thanks went to Meineke spent $75 they put 2 new bolts on the flange. Wow lol read more

I took my sons truck in for some muffler repair. He had brought his truck in on a Saturday and they checked it and gave him a price. The parts had to be ordered. When I got there they asked me what I was there for. I told them that I had an appointment and could he check the book. I was then told that the truck would be checked out again and they would tell me what needs to be done. To make a long story short. They said to me that it was now going to be a 20 hour job and the price would be $1800. I said no and left. We took the truck to our mechanic and he fixed it for $275. I feel they wanted to take me to the cleaners. I will never go back nor tell anytime go there This is not how a business is to be run. read more

I go here all the time. The older owners and and Victor are awesome. Theyre positive and take the time to talk to you. The owner's son, Mike, however is a total a-hole. He has no customer service skills and is always rude. He goes out of his way to start fights with Steve(owner) every time I am there. He is the only bad thing about this shop that would make me stop coming here. They should keep Mike in the garage away from talking to customers. read more

I used to go to car dealerships to have my car worked on and once the warranty period ended, a routine oil change came with "recommendations" to prevent my car from falling apart. My neighbor recommended American Muffler and I've been going to them for a couple of years now. They've always provided good service. And a routine oil change is just an oil change! No crazy "recommendations" :) I appreciate that if my car does need work, they take the time to walk me through and show me what the car needs and why. My parents now take their cars to American Muffler too. read more

This place is fantastic! Steve, the owner, is very honest and professional. He always takes the time to explain the costs to me and gives a fair price. Victor, the mechanic, is always courteous and willing to help me! I have a newborn baby and Victor always tries to look at my car in the parking lot to see if something can be done without having to move my sleeping baby. I highly recommend this place and will continue to bring my car to them! read more

Long story short, Mitch the owner quoted high in my opinion, but after I let him know I thought it was steep we agreed to a lower price. No hassle at all. I had my mid mufflers cut out of my Dodge Charger 392 Daytona and replaced with dynomax race bullets. Sounds great, the welds weren't the cleanest, but honestly who cares. As long as nothing is restricted and nothing moves around, the job really doesn't have to be pretty. If anything happens to the welds, I'll update the review. For now 5/5 thanks Mitch read more

My 2005 Honda CRV had a leak in the exhaust system right behind the resonator. Last week, I looked at Yelp reviews, and decided to pass on American. I called a Midas shop with a 5 star rating. I was invited down for an "estimate." I should have realized, "estimate" meant they had no intention of effecting the repair that day. The estimate was higher than I thought reasonable. But I would have probably had them do it if they would have done it that day. Today, despite some of the negative reviews, I called American. I'm glad I did. I spoke with Steve, who was very friendly. He gave me a ballpark estimate over the phone that was more in line with my expectations. He invited me to bring the car right in. I did so and 1/2 hour later was driving out with the repair completed. The price was less than 1/2 the Midas quote! Thanks Steve ... and thanks to the mechanic who performed the work! My only regret is that I drove around so long before getting this thing fixed. read more

I do not recommend this shop. I went back after an incorrect repair and instead of calmly talking to me about the issue, the owner started blasting profanities at me. Shop techs weren't respectful of my car either as my hands turned black after touching the steering wheel. Find a better indie ship read more

my car was making as much noise as a helicopter. now it's not. american muffler stop fixed the problem quickly with no hassles, and their customer service was great. steve said that if he couldn't fix it, he wouldn't charge us anything! luckily he diagnosed and solved the problem! dictated to me by my husband: "there was a hole in the flex tube (wtf is a flex tube) that connects to the exhaust manifold (learning new words). instead of replacing the entire exhaust manifold for $600, he welded a new flex tube on for $200!" brought my car in to get a resonator removed and some how both of 0xygen sensors went bad. They denied any fault so I had to get them replaced myself $500. Months later the exhaust sounds like a truck, I look under the car the exhaust is leaking from both ends of where the welded the new pipe on. good job guys!!! read more

Before taking my car to American Muffler, you could hear me coming from over a block away. I delayed in taking my car in to be repaired because I was worried that it would cost an arm and a leg. However, once it started leaking, I caved and brought it in to American Muffler. Best decision ever. They are open on Saturdays (always a plus) and fixed it in under an hour (another plus). Also, the price was extremely reasonable (yet another plus). The owner is very friendly and the service is great. My car hasn't been this quiet in months. I highly recommend. read more

These guys have done work on 2 of my cars, both BMW. I can tell you that as for as exhaust work goes they are excellent and the guy that does the welding and fabrication pays really great attention to detail. Tips were perfectly centered and not hanging low. Prices are fair for the quality of work and the owner is a really nice guy (and can tell you plenty of stories while you wait). read more

I had taken my jeep here about a year ago to fix an exhaust leak. The guy who did it did an amazing job. Welds were pretty much perfect. welds were around the entire pipe. Because of this experience I brought my gti here to have a downpipe put on. It's a pretty annoying job as I had already done one prior but being in a rush to get inspected I called American muffler to see how much they would charge to put my stock one back on. Job took about 2 hours. Steve stuck to his price even though it took longer then expected. Highly recommend American muffler to anyone looking for fast work done cheap. read more

Called in advance for an estimate fro a catalytic converter and was told I had to bring the car in for a visual inspection. When I arrived they asked if my check engine light was on. I told them it came on a month ago and went out on its own.I also told them that I had scanned my car and gave them the code and they agreed i need a new converter as well as a new Y pie to connect to manifold and 4 new sensors. I asked them if they needed to put the car on the lift and they said no. They never did a visual inspection and told me that you have to change the Y pipe and sensors when ever you change the converter. They quoted me $1050 so I went to Meineke in Levittown. Who quoted me $295 over the phone but charged me $390 because they had to fix a leak on the Y pipe. Which was bullshit but better than American Muffler. All they did was change the converter. When I confronted the mechanic he said he had to loosen 3 bolts on the Y pipe going to the manifold and tighten them back up (2 minutes worth of work for $95) which I know he didn't do. I recommend you never take your car to American Muffler unless your OK with being ripped off and paying for work you don't need. read more

Excellent ! These guys know what they are doing AND won't do traits that are NOT needed. If it's broken they can fix it but they won't do unnecessary work to jack up the cost of the repair. They fix just what needs to be fixed, they do it well and best of all they do it for a fair price. I'll go here again - even if all I need is an oil change ! read more

Great service. Made a quick repair on my 2015 Highlander exhaust pipe and was in and out within an hour. Highly recommend.

Over the past 20 years, I brought 2 muscle cars that needed meticulous exhaust work. Job well done. I go there today (May 23, 2014) for a quote on a simple exhaust tip replacement. Rude, unprofessional and arrogant. He, and and an associate sitting even ridiculed me while I walked out. I will never associate myself with them, nor recommend. A shame when in the past they were so accommodating. read more

I left work last evening and realized I had blown out a muffler. I looked up the closest place to go in case it was going to fall off. Thank goodness I chose them as I don't have stock mufflers. It was just about closing time for them, but they were happy to help me out. No only that but they had the "Flowmaster" mufflers in stock which I'm sure that Midas would NOT as they are an aftermarket that are mainly used on muscle cars. I'm also pretty sure they would not have stayed after closing, which in this case was an hour and a half. This is a class act business, father and son run, who put off their own plans for the evening to make sure my car was fixed and back on the road. I can't say enough about them and recommend them to anyone who needs good honest service which is hard to come by these days. Thanks guys! You rock. read more

I have to give 5 stars to American. My 06 Lexus with the Original exhaust needed a coupling and a section of pipe replaced. Made an appointment for a 1 P.M. repair and came by a few minutes early and the car was on the lift in minutes despite the fact that his lot was packed with cars. Mike confirmed what I already knew and took the time to show me the what needed to be replaced. He didn't try to up sell and gave me a fair quote for the work that was needed. I was in and out in under an hour and the car sounded like new. Mike was professional and I observed that he treats his customers and workers with respect. read more

Shop doesn't check over their work. How do you miss a giant leak in a pipe after a job? Isn't that just something any professional muffler shop checks for after an install? On top of that, missing components such as a pipe hanger. If the original pipe/muffler had 2 hangers, wouldn't it be common sense to install 2. I guess the owner just doesn't care enough to listen because when I told him such thing, all he got was extremely rude about it. read more

I arrived there and spoke with Mike he really knows his stuff when it comes to all different cars. DO NOT USE AMERICAN MUFFLER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!! I've been a mechanic for 42 years and retired last year. The service engine dash light came on in my sons Infiniti. I still have all of my diagnostic equipment so I hooked up to his OBD connector. My equipment scanned his car and found his O2 sensors were not responding. I was not about to jack his car up in the snow and check the sensors as they are in the exhaust system under the car. He had work done by American Muffler before and its just down the street so I told him to take it there and tell them the issue. Half hour later my son calls in a panic and says "Dad they want $950.00 to fix the car. They said it needs a complete tune up is why its running so bad" I told him bring the car home I'd fix it here. He says car won't keep running stalls as soon as its started. Car ran fine when they took it into their shop. Now it wont keep running and I had just done a complete tune up in August. A faulty O2 sensor would not cause this issue either. Told him I'd be right there and I confronted the idiot behind the counter. I asked what did you do to this kids car? After a lot of yelling got nowhere and went out to look at my kids car. The rubber intake hose had been torn off the throttle body. This allowed air to flow unchecked into the engine and why it would not keep running. This happened in this crooks shop as had it happened before car would have stopped running where it broke. After working on the car myself solved the power issue to the O2 sensors a blown fuse. A 15 cent item. New rubber intake hose that American Muffler broke $117.00 from Infiniti. Car runs like new. Be warned if you take it there you are going to be taken for a ride. read more

Stay away from this shop. This shop installs low end mufflers and warrantees them for life but will only change them once. I brought my car here three times in as many years. The third time the owner proceeded to tell me everything else that was wrong with my car and not deal with what i brought the car in the first place. Then the owner (Mitch) tells me my car is mis-firing and said he would have one of his men look at it. To make a long story short, the 2nd muffler he put in was blown out after 1 year and he did not want to absorb the cost of changing it again. I went to another muffler shop they have replace the crap muffler he put in.
