On American Meadows's website, I read about their suggested plants based on my hardiness zone, the amount of sun and shade in my yard, plants that are good for bees and butterflies, plants that grow to a desired height, plants that grow back each year, etcetera. I decided to purchase a 5-pound bag of no-mow flowering lawn seed mix for a total of $136, which includes shipping, handling, and tax. The next day, the business shipped my package. Not the best quality plants--in my first order, several arrived withered and dead, and one of the three-packs only had two. My second order had plants in better shape, but there were still dead and missing ones. That said, they're serious about their guarantee. In both cases, replacements were sent immediately when I told them of the issues, and because they sent three-packs to replace the missing rhizomes, I ended up with more plants than I ordered. Overall an okay experience. They're cheaper than some more reliable mail order places and they're a little less of a roll of the dice than Etsy. Regarding Order Number: 2927151 This order was received 3/23, and I planted indoors on 3/24. Today (4/2), I removed one tuber from my starter tray to see if there is any indication of life. And I saw a tiny white dot on the top of the tuber indicating that it is probably alive. But it will probably be another week or two before the shoot reached up one inch to the surface of the soil. So the tubers probably won't be planted outside until some time in May. The other begonia tubers I have from previous years are up about one foot and already beginning to bloom. I will move them outside later this week and plant them in large pots on our shaded deck. Late May is not what I expected from your tubers. So I will not be ordering from American Meadows again. I ordered seeds from them, but they chose the cheapest shipping option possible, so my seeds went from VT to MA to CA to NJ to MA over two weeks before finally reaching my home. The sad thing is this is the second time I experienced poor shipping. The first time, the shipment contained plants and bulbs that were moldy on receipt. When I asked to return the items, they said the shipping would be at my expense. Poor customer service! But shame on me for giving them a second chance. Not again! read more

I originally ordered 1 package of 15 pip of White Lily of Valley and 1 package of 3 pips of Rosea Lilly of Valley in October 2024. In mid March 2025 I received the package which contained the supposed order. Both bags were sealed with peat moss, and both lilly packages contained only 1 small pip. I opened the bags to check inside to confirm that there was only 1 pip while lily of valley and only 1 pip of the pink lily of valley. I was shorted 14 pips white and 2 pips of the pink. I called customer service informing of the shortage, took photos and was informed that it was an error and replacedments would be sent out. I received the first replacement 3/24/25. This time I did not open the bags as I could clearly see the problem. This time the replacement for the white lily of valley only contained peat, not a single pip or plant. The bag which was supposed to contain the pink lily of the valley contained a different plant with tag, which was for Veitchi Blue, also sealed. Clearly no one is checking what is being mailed out, and no one is checking to make sure that the plants you order are contained in the bag with the correct quanity. Again I take pictures, call customer service and explain what I received. I did not open bags this time because it is so hard to believe that the same mistake would happen again, especially since I asked them to check before sending it out. So, today April 8, 2025, I am beyond frustrated!! Received a packaged with hopes of finally getting what I ordered back on October, but to find no pink lily of valley at all, and the bag with the white lily of valley, again only had 1 small pip, again sort 14 pips. I paid over $55 for these plants and American Meadows cannot ship what they sell. Such disappointment, such terrible service, no quality control. Three time is very very diappointing. In the meantime, I ordered from Dutch Farms, and they send me what I ordered and paid for the first time. If you buy from the company it sure helps to know what the bulb or plant is supposed to look like, and if you can count, that is also helpful because American Meadows cannot count past one. read more

Last year I planted a new meadow garden, ordered seeds from American Meadows. This year I had amazing results, tons of beautiful wildflowers throughout the growing season. In the learning process, I realized that some of the flowers were too tall for my sloping garden, so for next year I'm looking to plant more wildflowers that are better suited. I've called American Meadows a number of times over the past 2 years for advice and suggestions about plantings. At first, I was disappointed when the dormant irises I received didn't come back in the Texas heat. The heat of shipping them in August and trying to grow them in 100+ degrees temperatures was too much. I realized, almost a year later, that there was a one year guarantee. They sent me new ones when I contacted them for the ones that died. I asked them to send them this month, September. So I hope they come out of dormancy just fine. read more
