Went in for a full synthetic oil change, didnt have the filter so they had to order it while I walked around the surrounding stores waiting, no problem there. I walk back in 45 mins, car is finished and parked in the back. I assume the techs never printed off the OEM spec sheet to inform them just how much oil to put in for the change, and never looked at or showed me the dipstick afterwards. On the hour drive back to my father's house west of Montgomery, I noticed severe lower gear slipping when trying to accelerate especially around turns, as well as EXTREMELY low gas mileage (14mpg when I average 25mpg at highway speeds). After eating dinner at my father's I tried to drive back into town, but couldn't even leave my parking space due to the transmission not catching any of the gears. My gear selection display on my dash was reading that all gears were selected (R, N, D, & S all solid lights). I checked the oil level and found it 2+ QUARTS over-filled (again, they must not have even looked at the spec sheet or the dipstick to see it was WAYYY over the fill line). So, while driving home from the Hwy 231 American Lube Fast, the excess engine oil had caused enough damage to the engine and/or transmission that the car will no longer "catch" when putting the car into drive. I called and explained what I had found the next morning (today) and now they're sending a mechanic to my house an hour away to confirm what I have told them.
I cannot honestly recommend this shop to anybody after this being my first experience there while visiting from the other side of the country, so please heed my advice and go elsewhere. I have no confirmation that the business will repair the damage they have caused other than an employee telling me they have to contact their insurance provider, but we will see what happens then. Not a great situation as I am trying to prepare to drive back to California in a matter of days.
I can't even express how aggravated and irate I am or will be even more if the damage is irreparable or the business will not correct their mistakes, I only hope they will fix the mistakes no matter what.
Update 3 weeks later: American Lube Fast's negligence has totaled my car, an extremely sentimental possession of mine and my wife who recently died. Even though I had put over $8k in improvements and parts in within the last 9 months, the value they placed on the vehicle after American Lube Fast totaled my engine and transmission was significantly less than I would be able to purchase a similar vehicle for (which I need for my work I have missed 13 days of so far, so much for lost wages as well). Through the failure of American Lube Fast's insurance provider (Westfield Insurance) and the negligence of the technicians at the oil change shop's location (who cant tell the difference between red tansmission fluid being drained and black oil from the engine oil pan) I have lost one of the two extremely sentimental belongings of my former wife who died less than 5 months ago now, and several thousand dollars in the process of waiting. Negligence that should never have happened with a "trained" tech at what was supposed to be reputable business. All because I trusted a somewhat large chain of "technicians" to do their job I paid in full for. I am extremely screwed in my travel plans and budget to get home back to my business, out several thousand dollars, and stuck in a place i fought for 18 years to get out of. Stay away from this business. read more
