Horrible guy at front counter, rude and was trying to charge me $8 for a pad lock key. American lock and key is garbage

Ride. Called 2 days in a row looking for help--both time very rude. I do not need to deal with someone who experts you to be an expert when asking questions and then mocking your question. zi asked why this behavior--statement was because I am short handed today--what does that have to do with treatment of a customer. THIS GUY ME A HORRIBLE FEELING. Another statement--$15 for rekeying and no guarantee. Another confidence builder for a customer. When I called yesterday, he indicated he was closed and I asked if I could ask him a quick question--He said yes IF YOU ARE QUICK! i am shocked anyone does business with place. In the end, I told him I did not like the treatment and was not looking be egocentric a difficult time and being disrespected. aHis only response was to come Monday when he has more help--this guy has no clue how to deal with the customer. it was Very bad service. I stopped there this morning to make an extra key for my car. There was an old man. He was a very rude man and he answered me in a bad way. We don't make car keys, only doors????? I asked him How do your advertisements and even The sign on same shop says that "we make a house and a car" he didn't answer i repeat my question no answer !!!!!! i wait littel time and i leave I don't know what happened with him , but i am very sorry to try do business with person like him read more

Rude. Can't stop thinking about how I was treated when I was there a few days ago. Walked in, no one there but me and the employee. I was blatantly ignored for a good 2 minutes while I just stood there and he tinkered with something. When I was finally acknowledged, I asked for copies of keys. I was told I couldn't get 6 copies, I was forced to buy 8 "because they are buy one get one free". I was also given a lecture about what kind of locks I should have on my rental properties. I didn't ask for advice, nor does he know anything about my properties or where they are, nor was his advice helpful. Just a mean man trying to make others miserable. I just got a new car and the pad on the key fob wasn't working. So I had to find a locksmith to program and cut my new key. I bought the key myself on Amazon for about $30. I went to a couple different stores and they wanted so much. Great Lakes Ace wanted $212! The dealer would have wanted $300 almost. I found Kevin at American Lock & Key and he was so friendly! He did it for under $80. I got the whole thing including the key I bought on Amazon for about $100. He cut it and programmed it in about 15 minutes. Nice conversation and service from him. I will definitely be going back to see him. And I'll be referring everyone I know to him as well! read more

I am one of those husbands that fixes a leak, and then feels invincible. I won't bore you with what lead up to me replacing all 15+ door handles in my house, but it ended with me wanting to get the same key I already had for the front of my house to go into the newer garage door lock. So I did what any 30-something semi-pro locksmith would do: look up YouTube's and buy Amazon parts. Well, the part I bought from Amazon got me into the right area, but it was missing some key components. I essentially broke the mechanism. So I had to put my tail between my legs and say, "Can you help me?" He graciously said, "Come on down." When I got there I was both amazed and unphased. They have just about anything you could think of in that place. Keys, locks, safes. I gave him my key cylinder, and he fixed it in a jif, and I left happily only ten dollars poorer. He was a bit curt, but that's probably how I would act if someone unsuccessfully attempted my job from parts from the Internet, so... I can empathize. If I ever have a key/door issue that I fail at again, you can bet your butt I'll be back here, humbling myself before the masters that work here. Even if they are a bit cranky, their ability is what will win my business, here. read more

Called them to fix a deadbolt gone wrong. At first I called a random number and got an individual who I felt was a con artist. Showed up in a rusty van and tried to get me to pay hundreds of dollars just to rekey my doors. Luckily I sent them on their way with nothing. So I had some friends try to change deadbolt and we messed it up. I saw an ad for American lock & key in the local magazine. They Were upfront on the phone of what the charges would be. The gentlemen pulled up in a legitimate van and got right to work. Prices where so reasonable. Even less than I thought they would be. I recommend saving this company in your phone in case you ever need a locksmith. I live downriver. I called and they were here in less than 20 min. Never have a locksmith come to your house unless you know they are a legitimate company. read more

They were super fast and it only cost me about $50 for them to come out and get my keys out of my car on the weekend, not bad.

I would give a 0 if it was available. Anyone who gave this company a decent review must have caught them on a great day. Elderly della shows up, makes the keys at a price tag of $175 for 3 defective keys. I went to do earrands, lovked my doors, and couldnt get back in!! Stranded! What if it had been at night in less than a better area!! Called the owner, he sent another elderly very rude employee who was mad right from the start. I admit I was excitable but did not yell or swear but that didnt stop this person from calling me a bitch...what good decent company send someone like that out to a customer. Next say my keys still do not work properly, called again. Sent same fella who was out the first time. Guess what, the frickin key machine was not working right!! FINALLY HAD WORKING KEYS!!! Yet I had to go thru all that as a honest paying customer. Today went on owners website to find discounts that I was never offered!!! This place sucks!!! Helpful staff, hours appear a little off on yelp. Yelp stayed they were open till 7pm on Wednesday but I stopped by at 615ish and they were closed. I had 4 key copies made and was out in under 5 minutes for around $6. Would recommend. read more

I put off taking in a small safe for 6 mo after loosing the keys in my move. It took the nicest man 5 min and $10.00 to hook me up!!!! I never get honest fast and friendly service anymore???? I will recommend you from now on!!!!!! read more

This is a good place to go, if you want your pocket picked! I called about 2 "chip keys" for my 15 year old Ford. They told me 25 each because they had to be programmed. I understood that. But they only have to run the programmer once! And you can program them yourself. You just have to 2 keys that are already programmed, I did. I was told the keys were 25 each, regardless. So I bought 2 "chip" keys from Ebay for10... I needed some other keys made anyway. And since they are a block away I went there. He charged 20 just to cut my ebay keys! 10 a key! I asked him why? He told me that those keys mess up his cutter wheel. Bullshit! I asked what the difference was. "They're different" was his reply. Being a 30 year experienced Engineering Technician, I am well aware of different alloys. So I asked him what the difference in the alloy was. "They're different" was his response. These keys must be harder than their "DIAMOND CUTTING WHEEL"! Not willing to be intellectually assaulted again. I took the rest of the keys to a local hardware. Where they sold me 4 new keys (that weren't chipped) and cut them... for 10!! The old saying goes... "The biggest thieves, are those with keys!" They will never see another dime of my business!! read more

Was going to have this company do all our locks for our warehouse which has over 30 doors, my guess this was going to be alot of money for them. Absolutely HORRIBLE experience!! Tried to charge me $170 to make two keys...the technician said it was because they had to drive to Detroit. When I balked at that ..the technician said he needed to see the ignition switch. He broke the steering wheel shroud by prying it off. He failed to remove the 4 screws that were staring him in the face. He said he would get me a new shroud, it would take a week and knock off $50. On my way home..it was raining. Low and behold, my windshield wipers, high beams and blower fan did not work. When I called the next day...the customer rep. was extremely rude, as if I was bothering him. There solution...."jiggle the key". After I told them I held up my payment until they make this right, they attempted to give me an old used shroud for a totally different vehicle!!! When I said no way...he miraculously, in less than a hour, finds one for my car. Which, by the way, I ended up installing myself....So I paid for 2 keys and a needlessly broken shroud. If you value your $$$...DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT use these guys. read more
