We're in town visiting family and we'd heard nothing but great things about the American Legion…read more Good food, great service and SUPER affordable means we had to visit and we weren't disappointed. We entered down a long, wide hallway leading to the bar and dining area. Our family had only been here 5 or 6 times but the Manager and servers were warmly greeting them by name and enthusiastically welcoming us. Being 3:00 pm, to our surprise, we encountered a full dining room with only one 4 top available but the 5 of us scrunched in. An 8 year old doesn't take up much room. Looking around the room I noticed 1/2 the room were families with all different age of children and adults ranging from early 20's to mid 80's. Majority of smiling, eating and deep into conversations. Our server immediately dropped off menus and took our drink orders. The entire visit was this efficient, friendly and by the end of lunch we felt like family. I now had first hand experience and understood why our family enjoyed coming here as often as they do. The Chili Hot Fries are a must if you love lots of crinkle fries topped with yummy hot chili, smothered in cheese with enough to share or not. My husbands grilled tenderloin was huge, tender, flavorful and highly recommended. My pulled pork sandwich had a generous portion of tender pulled pork, BBQ sauce on the side, and the loaded mashed potatoes was the perfect compliment to the BBQ sauce. Next the Spaghetti and Meatballs didn't disappoint and recommended we try. If you're a beer drinker then you'll enjoy the major affordability of glasses or pitchers of beer. Finally, if you're in the area make a point to stop in for lunch, dinner or just a drink. You want be disappointed with the food, prices or service. We'll be back!

The bar area is on the quiet side, so it's a good place to have good conversations. Everyone is very friendly. These is a limited selection of beers available. We have a good time.

My dad has been in the home for almost a year now. When he arrived departing from another home we thought he had a couple months left. I was in awe to see how much a difference in care can do to someone's overall health. My biggest concern with the previous homes were them being understaffed. I can sympathize where at MoVet they also have some of those issues but are still able to give my dad the proper care he needs. We have family that visit daily and we have grown to develop a great relationship with the staff as the days have gone by. So not only do they know and care for my dad but they also know and care for our family that visit. When my dad first arrived we came with a lot of baggage from concerns at the previous homes. What I appreciated was the staff stepped in and found a way for us to all get on one accord. We were able to express concerns and get feedback on how this home would be different. That was very helpful to hear as I care for my dad long distance and have to make sure I am making decisions about his health in an informed way. My direct POC has been such a bonus to always know that if I have any concerns (and there are few once we got our groove) and I know that things will be handled in the best way possible for my dad. They were able to assist us in gaining trust in them and its been the best decision we could have made for my dad's care. Now, the other things! In my book great care for my dad is most important. The facility is clean and open! We have been able to host a birthday party as well as the home provides regular activities that the vets are able to enjoy. The food is good for vets and for visiting family at a reasonable cost. This facility is a great place for vets to interact with other vets and keep to themselves if they prefer. This review is a huge thank you to the staff for all of their hard work and care that they bring to work each day. Keep impacting lives!

Knowing he would strongly resist the idea of nursing homes, I opted to take him on a tour of the Missouri Veterans Home. The experience was positive, prompting Dad to choose it as his residence. While he isn't flawless and can be impatient, I'm grateful for the staff's handling of those moments. The Missouri Veterans Home maintains effective communication with my immediate family regarding Dad's well-being. They provide timely updates on medication changes and organize regular care plan meetings that include the family. Although the social workers appear stretched thin, they still manage to communicate efficiently. During our visits, Dad is consistently well-groomed, and any requests we have concerning him are taken into consideration. I rest easy knowing Dad is a resident here. I have no complaints; the entire staff, from the front desk and accounting to the nursing and cafeteria staff, is friendly and accommodating.
