The estimated crowd according to the houston chronicle was suppose to be 400k people. I am not sure if that many came out, but it was a good crowd. They had blocked off the Parade route and some streets. But we were easily able to find parking at McKinny garage close to the parade route on Milam. It was worthing going, and hope to continue going in the future. It was peaceful, and lots of families came out to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King. There were several Houston and state politicians, gov and civil servants, schools, bands, dance teams, divine nine sororities, and fraternities, & private companies. According to the Black Heritage Website: "Our theme: As we embrace our shared humanity, life can present challenges, but a world filled with justice, compassion, freedom, and unity creates an atmosphere of Hope for all people! Let's continue to march forward together. As our late Civil Rights Leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, said, "We must learn to live together as brothers, or perish as fools." Join us in the unified MLK Unity Parade on January 19, 2026, at 10 am in Downtown Houston at Smith and McKinney Street for this Historic Event. We invite all of Houston and the USA! Our health awareness efforts are centered on Sickle Cell." Amen to that.

It's absolutely beautiful inside--such a cute, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed space. The food was on the simpler side, but still really good. I had the gluten-free mushroom chicken, and for a healthier option, it was solid. Everyone else seemed to love the taco salad, and those cinnamon rolls they bring out? So good. The coffee was also a standout. What really stuck with me, though, was learning more about the organization. I had so many questions, and hearing about what they do and the impact they make was genuinely interesting and inspiring. It actually made me want to get involved--I'm planning to look into signing up and seeing where it leads. Overall, such a lovely experience. Beautiful space, good food, and an even better mission behind it.

She told me about becoming a member and the fundraising and events involved. If you know an existing member, you can get them to sponsor you when you join. Luckily, she knew someone. Fast forward a year later, and she was able to book the Junior League for her reception. It is located right next to the Houston Grand Hotel River Oaks (formerly St. Regis), which is convenient because it's walking distance to where we stayed. There's a parking garage next to the entrance. You walk in, and it's simply beautiful inside. Each room is adorned in a different color or wallpaper, furniture, and artwork. It's that old money timeless vibe like the Hamptons. It fit my friend quite well for her style. Everyone at the reception took photos in every room...including the restroom which has an emerald green chaise in the sitting room. There were only 2 stalls in the women's restroom though. We had cocktail hour in a separate room, and there were little bars set up. The servers greeted us with wine or champagne. There were also sodas for nonalcoholic options. The hors d'oeuvres were delicious. They served breaded spinach and artichoke bites with horseradish dip, mini bruschetta, and mini skewers of olive, cheese and deli meat. I ate a ton of the spinach and artichoke bites. Lol. When it was time to enter the dining hall, a staff member played a xylophone repeatedly to indicate it was time for dinner service. It was similar to when you need to go back to your seat at the theater. The ballroom area itself was beautiful with all the chandeliers. I'd say it fits about 150-200 people depending on the table and seats you choose. There was a small dance floor near the stage with their wedding logo on the floor. They happened to have a live band which was amazing. They played for 2-3 hours straight a quarter after midnight, and everyone danced and sang the night away. The staff was amazing and attentive. The food was delicious, and the steaks were surprisingly cooked so well that you could cut the filet with a butter knife. I was skeptical at first. After dinner, they served coffee. I asked for tea, and they brought me a whole teapot and earl grey. The lead person overseeing the Junior League was so cool, and by the end of the night, she thanked us because this was the most smooth and respectful group of guests and wedding party she's seen come through. Yay! It was a wonderful celebration of love. The Junior League is the perfect place to have a wedding reception or event. I highly recommend. I'd like to look into some of their events and fundraisers. I tried to see if there were any CPR classes, but their website hasn't been updated. I was able to get a free one anyway.

I always use rideshare options when I attend events here so I'm unsure about the parking situation or cost, but I do know there are plenty of garage and street parking available.
