You can go wrong with the American Legion. The food was excellent. The crowd was wonderful and the price is right. We will be back.

The folks at this legion are a tight community. When I was getting ready to go back overseas they helped my mom throw a going away party for me here and it was a lot of fun. When I was a kid we used to go to many of their events as well. read more

In all my years coming to Sanibel, I have never been here and I'm so glad that I finally stepped inside. I saw their ad for Taco Tuesday in the local paper and had to try it. For $10, you get two big tacos with all the goodies - salsa, sour cream, jalapeños, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. LOADED! You also choose your protein, fish, chicken, pastor, or ground beef. The older crowd was fun and welcoming and the beer was COLD. Couldn't ask for more. Our server was so kind and friendly too. The public is definitely welcome. I sure was. read more

My wife and I were taking our first trip to Captiva Island. The road was jam packed with traffic. We started getting hungry and decided we couldn't make it much further and found this American legion. It's a classic dive bar, very rustic very authentic the bartender said it had been there since 1962. It locked it. It was a limited menu for lunch and the bartender said yesterday that the burger was the best thing on the menu. Boy was she right that burger was fantastic! The fries that came with it were just OK but the meat they used on the burger was quality and it was seasoned very well. The beer was cold and the bartender was funny. If you're not looking for anything fancy and just need a quick bite to eat and don't mind a dive bar atmosphere this is the place for you. read more

I was in there last Saturday and had a medical issue which caused me to collapse and go unconscious. Due to the fast reaction of the staff American Legion, a local gentleman nickname Tuna I am here today. I was told I was dead for two minutes no pulse they did not give up on me,thank God ! Unfortunately I do not know the police officer that also came to my assistance within minutes he was very instrumental in my success I am told. It's off the beaten path en route to Captiva & you may pass it on the left if you don't pay close attention. Although smoking is allowed, & we're not smokers, don't let that stop you. Husband and I ate here twice this week! First lunch...Gator's cheeseburgers are the best on the island. Tonight we had Gator's ribs...tender, moist and delicious! Yes, it is an American Legion and you can either eat at the bar or in their dining room. Don't come for the decor, come for the best food around! Prices reasonable and full bar. What's not to love! best burger ever ... the Mrs. and I had the 'infamous' cheeseburgers (fries, lettuce, luscious tomatoes, plentiful onions) [because folks at our South Seas Island Resort recommended] and such were superb - the burger was bigger then the bun ... cold brews, friendly Legionnaire atmosphere, a welcoming gregarious venue . . . ample parking, expeditious cooks and a conversationalist bar tender . . . good chow and some island R&R! read more
