We shopped around extensively at several professional landscapers and decided to go with William for a wide variety of reasons. He was VERY responsive to our landscaping desires and spent a great deal of time carefully drafting a specific plan for our side and back yards. William is extremely knowledgeable regarding local vegetation and trees, and offered numerous suggestions regarding what would and would not work. Once the plan was finalized we set a date for the work. He closely managed the entire landscaping process and the results were BEAUTIFUL. We've received many compliments on our side and back yards with many thanks to William's efforts. His prices were absolutely REASONABLE and he did NOT charge extra for all the design and drafting work he did for us unlike so many other landscaping firms in the area. I contacted Mike Hayes & Associates and scheduled and appointment for a consult during the last week of May. We have a big back yard project involving landscaping/grading/design around a pool that we needed help with. William came out as scheduled, looked at the area, took some measurements, etc. He quite honestly wasn't overly friendly and seemed dismissive of any ideas I had. Once he had all the necessary info he said he would get back to me with a plan and estimated cost. Fast forward, its now three weeks later. Not one word from from William or anyone else from the company. I'm not the kind of person who will chase people down to give them my business (and for a big project, nonetheless) so there is currently another landscaping company doing work in my back yard as I type this review. Mike Hayes & Associates probably do outstanding work, but their business response quite frankly is horrific.

Buyer beware. I hired Lane from Outside the House (OTH) for a large residential project…read more(installation of 40+ trees) and unfortunately this was a bait and switch experience. The project was quoted far under the competition (RED FLAG #1) but the conversation and intent seemed genuine at first so we decided to support a local small business. By the end of the project, we were hit with a final invoice 30% over budget, to be surprised without warning financially hurt our family. This was just the beginning of the extra expenses needed to finish the project. Furthermore and to our surprise, OTH cannot help with any of the other critical elements of tree planting, e.g. drainage, irrigation, fertilization, etc (RED FLAG #2). The project was performed in late December without any research into the topography and the bed design created a dam that flooded come spring requiring us to outsource a team of landscaping professionals to install multiple catch basins / french drains to prevent all trees from drowning. More financial stress for our family. Sadly, we lost 10 trees dying due to improper planting (OTH installed out trees shallow, provided zero bed prep, and bad location of certain tree species). OTH became hard to get ahold of when we needed them the most. We let them know we had pressure from our HOA to fix the mess (RED FLAG #3). What is most disturbing in this whole mess is OTH not warranting the work they did and blaming us for the issues they created. Now we have holes in our deign, significant additional expenses, and not to mention stress and confusion. OTH is a poorly run business and we wish we had not selected them for our project.
