The American hotel hostel helped me out big time during my stay in Seattle. Everything in town was sold out due to the championship soccer game and the Pax Convention. I got a single room for $100 by myself. It's not fancy, but it sure is a lot better than staying at the airport and taking the train in every day. read more

I was most impressed by how friendly the staff were! For the great location and compared to the prices of other hotels, I was happy with my stay. My room was clean and lockers were in the rooms. The shared bathrooms were super clean and seemed to be cleaned every morning. They had some light breakfast such as bagels, oatmeal, and coffee which was appreciated. The hostel itself was definitely old but I find that it gives it character especially since everything was clean. Lastly, I will admit there is no AC and the room can be stuffy, but I found cracking a window and the very small handheld fan above my bed was adequate for me. This hostel is a good one to choose for a trip to Seattle. There are also missions ($5/nightly). Located across the street from China town *100 ft away from Union Station/International district stop) and a block away from Kings Tree Station. Restaurants galore! In the heart of everything. Daikon $1.50 store, CVS type store, asian grocery store with lots of American options and manga comic type stores). TIP: The elevator useage is for handicap and cleaning staff...when you arrive with luggage you can take the elevator and upon your last day leaving. That's it. From the airport: Walk to the LINK (cora) area which is on the 4th level. Then take the free shuttle to the Link (see pictures). Purchase a link ticket ($2.25)...unless you will be bussing it all over town....take the Link into Seattle (university of Washington train). Locate your destination. Hostel interior: I was leary of this place because of the pitiful looking ans unhappy staff. No smiles and just dreary looking...almost goth. Im used to happy front desk staff! (Hi and welcome. .have you ever been to Seattle, blah blah talk is great)...not here...don't expect it. Drag your bags up to reception...i was told i couldn't use the elevator!! The place is clean! Although some of the guests are silly. *(some college aged men swept their crumbs right off the counters directly onto the floor)...why???? Respect isnt in their vocabulary. RestRooms: Spacious restrooms with showers (very clean)... at least while I was there. Bedrooms: Clean rooms with 4 electrical outlets per bed, with personal fan, light. Ask for a towel. We had 2 extra blankets in the room. Spacious Wood lockers (bring your own lock). Kitchen/Complimentary breakfast: Open 24/7 (Wash your own dishes) coffee, tea and water on hand. 3 microwaves and I believe 3 stove tops. Foil, plastic wrap and condiments are available. They did have 3 tupperware dishes available!!(someone needs to donate tupperware). I appreciate their sticker system and having a pen accessible and signage clearly in view. LIBRARY: Yes they have a library! A reservations area with tourist information. With board and card gamez available. GAME ROOM/LAUNDRY AREA: Clean, 2 resstrooms, seating and newer machines with a sink! TV AREAS: They have 2. kitchen area (main floor) and on the 3rd floor. Big screen tvs. They do have 2 signup boards for group events and a suggestion/message board. I like this!! Overall, as an extrovert and older adult, I'm finding it more difficult to get folks to. Open up and talk. It seems they are fearful and not sure of what to say and how much to say...especially those not from the USA. If they don't want to talk..then they say they dont speak any English. I give this 5 stars because the people were super friendly and helpful(I've been having some medical issues and walking w/a cane)and let me in at 11:30pm after I came up from Salem on the AMTRAK. They have a nice kitchen, nice laundry facilities, lockers, bathrooms; I had a private room w/bathroom because of some of my issues and it was clean and worked great for me....I was up for a reunion 25 of us going to the Mariners game. One nice thing....a small fan and light over each bed; I brought my own fan, too, as I get pretty hot....It is a bit noisy as the street sweeper/garbage truck/and Recycler all came through between 1-2AM(Tuesday night) and my room was closest to the 4-way stop in a busy Chinatown area, with a few restaurants still open....the doors are paper thin between rooms so people that were drinking and going to the bathroom every 10 minutes to the communal floor bathrooms were a bit noisy, but I'm retired, so no big deal; should've used my ear plugs, anyway. Some people had mentioned water problems(NONE here)and dirty sheets(so I brought an old one and left it)but everything in my room was nice and clean. Thanks so much! I forgot you can get hair dryers or heaters from front desk if you need them; I brought my own small travel hair dryer so one less thing to worry about; vending machines on the premises plus the Amtrak lobby has some good ones near baggage, too. Stayed here with a friend for 3 nights, and we booked a private room. The first room they gave us hadn't even been cleaned, there were dirty towels hanging up, trash and old flip flops on the floor, and unmade beds. They gave us another room right away, and although the second room was clean, it was definitely a downgrade (no natural light, smaller, right across from the housekeeping elevator, window covered in bird shit outside). We tried to ask about getting the first room back once it was cleaned but they said we would have to check out the next morning at 11am, have them store our bags, and then check back into the other room at 3pm. Not super convenient for us since we were out and about so we just kept the second room. For a hostel, the WCs were very clean and there was plenty of them on each floor. Didn't use the common areas but they looked nice and clean. There is a free breakfast every morning but we did not get a chance to check it out. Overall the staff was nice, especially the girl with red hair. There was a young asian girl at the front desk though who acted as if everyone who needed help was somehow inconveniencing her (I witnessed this with multiple guests on multiple occasions from her). read more

This place is pretty nice. Located near a whole bunch of things in kinda downtown, including the Link, Amtrak and Century Link Field! While it's your standard hostel - shared rooms with beds, sheets, pillows, lockers and similar to a dorm room with a shared bathroom on the floor - I'm glad we opted for a private room. Even had a desk and sink in it! While the beds aren't completely uncomfortable (bunk beds...a double + twin), I would recommend bringing your own pillow. Especially if you don't want to keep adjustiing the ones provided as the night goes on. The bedspread also did not stay tucked on the double very well - unhooking at the corners, but I got over it. The windows don't seal in the room so you may get fruit flies that visit like we did. They offer free breakfast (bread, bagels, instant oatmeal, banana halves and orange wedges + coffee and hot water) so that's nice...especially for an early start to the day: 6am-9am My only comment/unhappiness is that they clean the bathrooms at weird times (IE: early in the morning). We ran into them at least 2 different times when we got up before breakfast so that was kinda an inconvenience. The desk people are super nice and knowledgeable with recommendations on food in the area if you don't have a plan. Overall I would recommend this place if you want inexpensive and don't want anything fancy. read more

8/19/2019 I highly recommend that hostel for any young or elderly guest. If you are a HI International member you can benefit of 10% less. The hostel is great providing good breakfast, towel and services to its guests as printing documents as requested. Also the hostel is very clean and quiet located in the Chinatown neighborhood. I stayed there occupying the dorm rooms for 8 nights. The hostel offers some activities as free walking tour, cheese and wine, cookies, night movie and popcorn. The staff is always helpful and smiling. The kitchen is great. The breakfast offers cereals, cheese, jam, butter, juices, coffee/te and bread/muffins. read more

My boyfriend and I got a 2-person private room (we got bunk beds, haha) and we had plenty of space. The room was very clean and included a sink with a mirror which I found very convenient. We were also given free towels (additional towels are $1 each) which I was happy about because I forgot my quick-dry towel at home. The shared bathrooms were clean and the shower rooms were huge. The shower rooms also include shampoo and body wash dispensers in case you forget your toiletries. This place includes free breakfast from 6:30-9am everyday and the kitchen/dining area can get pretty hectic. It's definitely structured like a dorm. As far as prices, our 2-person room is a bit expensive (approximately $50/person/night) compared to the shared rooms, but it was certainly cheaper than staying at hotel that you'll only use for sleeping and taking a shower. The down side of this place is its location. Although it was a block away from King Station, it was located in a pretty sketchy neighborhood (at least during night time). But overall, I had a good experience and I wouldn't mind staying here again. [TIP] All room reservations are prepaid. You make an initial 10-15% deposit when you book the reservation and pay the rest when you check in. Check-out time is 11am and it was hassle-free. read more

Okay, I had doubts about staying at a hostel, but a friend of mine who works for the organization thought it would be a good idea. He was right, btw. I stayed two nights at the Hostel in Seattle, and it was a nice venue. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was nice and comfortable, and there wasn't a lot of noise. The neighbourhood is not the most exciting; Chinatown is pretty quiet at night, which is a shame because there's a pizza place down the road that's supposed to be pretty good. I did manage to snag a nice box of BBQ, though. There's transit nearby so you can get pretty much anywhere covered by Seattle's transit system. You can get from here to Seattle Centre (the EMP & the Space Needle) by bus. There's a nice model store next door, and an Asian grocery store a block over if you want to take advantage of the hostel's very nice cooking facilities. Bring a pair of flip flops for the shower facilities, and don't forget your lock in your room. read more

The lockers are man-made and if you put any of your belongings up to the edge of the lockers that are in the rooms they can slide through to the next person's locker and you can't get it out because their locker is locked. The restaurants around this hotel are Junkie, it's a little bit of a ghost town in the area of the hotel because a lot of businesses have closed down, if you happen to be Chinese and you're fluent in Chinese and you don't really care about really good quality food than this area would be just fine for you, but for everybody else they might not want to be in this area There is a different hostel in the area of the "Public Market" it's actually right across the street from there and it's, I believe it's called the green tortoise, and I really wish I would have gone there.... Hostel looks pretty old, but it had something that I can't describe. It looks pretty and dirty at the same time but in the positive way! Simple breakfast every morning included, bagels/bread and coffe/tea. Located 10-15 walk to pioneer square, and in the middle of international district. I was alone and always back by 8ish. I stayed here for 5 days. I would stay here again. The rooms/beds arent anything to rave about. Our room felt like there was a continuous draft even though the windows were closed. In mid April, the weather was still cold enough that I wish I had brought my bubble jacket with me. They did provide fancy blankets with extras at the receptionist desk. I liked the common area spaces- the kitchen, tv, and living rooms. I thought they were pretty big compared to the other hostels I've seen. The bathrooms were clean and never crowded. It was harder to meet people here. The staff doesnt do much to plan events so people can hang out together. The hostel travelers were also a mix crowd of ages. At my stay, there were more older travelers than 20 to 30 somethings. The area its located in is Chinatown. Theres some really good asian restaurants around. It wasnt the most affluent neighborhood but I always felt safe walking around. The big plus to the hostel was the location- the light rail and bus stops were like a 100ft away. Just for the convenience of having the light rail nearby, I would stay again. I was at the Green Tortoise hostel a few years ago. Its located right across the famous Pike's Marketplace. The only thing I liked here was it felt like there were more younger travelers and it was more social. I didnt like the rooms and bathrooms, which were dirty and crowded. read more

I'm impressed because I never stayed in any hostel in US, only B&B in London. Location is convenient, Chinese restaurants are around. The manager Alex gave such a warm welcome and helpful, he tried to help what I needed like room with the view..lucky it was available. But later I preferred room with a sink and 3 little closets in private room#406. The property was clean, large kitchen and eating areas that can see the Chinese gate of Chinatown, tv room, free clean & cool water. I feel super safe here with their two key cards to be in n out the room and property. Restroom & showers are clean but need air freshener, smell not too bad but could be get rid of. No hot water on 4th floor, it freezes my head when shampoo & must be quick...so shower in winter here was not relaxing or they tried to save their water, who knows? All staffs are kind and courtesy. Facilities are clean too. Definitely will come here if I back to Seattle again. read more

The people who work here are very helpful A my phone screen was having issues and they helped me find a local repair shop for my phone - I came after hours and the service was quick to let me in and schedule my stay- I stayed 3 nights.. I had a 4 bed bunk but it was so private no one was in my room so it was like having a private room in my stay - the window is open and my fan helped keep me cool at night - a desk in the room I put my things on the desk and the door closet - the blanket is so soft and my back hurt so much from my 9 hour flight - the bed was so comfy- I wore flip flops in the shower - the bathrooms were mostly clean - I found the microwave in the kitchen and the kitchen rules are nice and sensible - people who stay here are friendly as well - it was clean since they don't allow smoking and so it was a fresh place to stay - I recommend this place - there are lockers in the laundry room and they offer free laundry pods - a lot of paper information and pamphlets and maps about Seattle and what to see around town - I mostly shopped at daiso and the local Asian grocery store - which has a nice bookstore - food can be good or bad depending on where u eat - this hostel is located in Chinatown - it was very easy to walk around and lots of things close by walking distance - it's located near downtown - the hostel rooms are clean and comfy to me and it's a good budget place to stay and worth the value - very pleasant stay I had - they told me the phone lines have been down in person so I would email them- they get back to u very soon. SEATTLE! What a dope city! I've always wanted to get a taste of the Pacific NW and finally got the chance. Let's just say I can't wait to come back. Location: fucking superb. Right in Chinatown. Three minute walk to the light rails and bolt bus pick up/drop off location. Food options are abundant. Atmosphere: also fucking superb. Big dining/kitchen area to munch and mingle. Adjacent tv room, separate study/meeting room and also a living room area on the second floor. Actual rooms: I stayed 1 night in a private room which consists of a bunk bed (the top bunk is twin size and bottom is queen). The second night I stayed in a 6 bed and it was clean and comfy enough for me. Neither of these rooms had a bathroom inside. Events offered: there was a sign up sheet for almost every day of the week for something hip to do around the city. I had fully checked out on day 1, and the receptionist was cool enough to still let me join the urban hike tour later on that day. It was a great time and thanks to Kayley (or Kayla.. sorry! You're so fucking sweet and super cool!) It was a hike to remember. Lol. Hey, getting lost is sometimes more fun.. and in this case it totally applies. Hostelling International at the American hotel is the name brand in Hostels and was my default choice as a Hostelling International member. It is very conveniently located near Union Station, the light rail from SeaTac Airport, and the main Interstate bus and train station. When I take the train up from Portland, I walk to the hostel since it is so close to the Amtrak station. The hostel is in the up and coming China Town, a mix between authentic, upscale Asian cuisine and shopping. The accommodations are not below par nor did it exceed my expectations. I upgraded to the four-person dorm room with shared community water closets. Each room has a large locker to secure all your items. While I stayed the hostel, they advertised a "movie night" that never materialized. I didn't see many other excursions like the other two had. There are several lounge areas to rest in and most people kept to themselves. Included is a breakfast that consisted of bagels, toast, fruit and the coffee was decent. This hostel is recommended if you are traveling through Seattle and need a convenient place to sleep between trains or getting to the airport. You might consider it also if there was a last minute flight cancelation and you needed a place to stay overnight. This hostel was great overall, the best part about it was the cleanliness of all the quarters, including the bedrooms, restrooms and the kitchen. Towels, shampoo/body wash/ breakfast was provided for everyone and extra toiletries like hair dryers were available for free to rent. They also had extra products you could purchase for one dollar, like razors and snacks. The bathroom were shared but cleaned frequently, and the had a decent amount of showers and toilets on each floor. The majority of the front desk staff were relaxed and friendly, they answered all of our questions about the living situations and gave us great tips for finding our way around the city. The loss of one star goes to the young lady with medium length brown hair that checked us in. Our flight landed in Seattle about two hours before check in, which was at 3pm, so we decided to drop our things off at the hotel. My girlfriend had her passport on her as a form of identification, which in every other place we'd gone has sufficed as proof of identity. The lady asked if she had any evidence that she lived outside of Seattle, and asked if we still had our plane ticket. My girlfriend provided her boarding pass, which the lady looked at for five seconds, slapped back on the table and huffily said "ok that doesn't help me." She continued to get frustrated but was able to check us in. Based on all the other wonderful qualities of this hotel, I will definitely be returning on my next visit to Seattle! read more

The American Hotel has a lot of potential. I eagerly await the day when its location in Seattle isn't completely gross at night. Within seconds of getting out of our van, someone attempted to sell us weed in spite of the fact that there was a small child walking around with us. I remember this area from the days when I lived in Seattle and had to catch a bus around there after going to a baseball game or something else nearby. I used to have to strategically dodge all the seriously serious dive bars where old men and tweekers stand outside, lurking and waiting to harass any women who might pass by. Anyway, I shouldn't completely base my review on location, but location is a huge factor sometimes. The Hostel has some nice features, including a huge kitchen, pin ball machines, a small tv room, and a really nice, homey common area upstairs. The bathrooms seemed recently remodeled. They could use some bathmats though. My biggest complaint about the stay was the brightness in our room after we turned out the lights. I thought that someone had forgotten to turn off one of their bed lights at first, because it was unbelievably bright. There was a parking lot across the way from our room and I guess just a ton of light pollution? Both I and my traveling buddies woke up multiple times in the middle of the night confused that it was the afternoon because of the brightness of the room. They need some thick curtains to keep the room dark. read more

This place has some incredibly horrible service. A random person walked into my paid private room in the middle of the night waking us up, when she ABSOLUTELY SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY ACCESS AT ALL. When I went with her to reception to let them know that they made a mistake, they just stared at me and said "oh." WTF?! I had to again tell them to fix this problem and give the girl another room. The girl even asked them if she now had the correct room as she had to switch keys and rooms 3 different times that night in the hostel. If I was that girl, I would punch them in the face and get my money back. I also had to go to reception constantly to update my keys because they were deactivated throughout our stay there. Overall, I paid for a place that had no A/C, squeaking beds, unknowledgeable and some disrespectful staff, and of course, they denied any refunds. Never again. read more

As basic as it's going to get. Funky old building in international district. I've never been to prison, but I imagine the living arrangements would be similar, minus the occasional shankings and weapons made from tooth brushes. The room color is a stylish puke green, and the bed would be almost tolerable had I been intoxicated. Unfortunately I was not. What this hostel lacks in style and comfort, it almost redeems itself by convenience of location. Situated in the heart of Chinatown and about a block away from the bus and train terminal, it is easy to escape the prison-esque demeanor of the hostel and enjoy fraternization with the general population. I would not recommend a long stay here, but I suppose if you on a budget or just wanted to have a 'home base' in downtown to use for sleeping, this place would suffice. read more

Each bed had a fan and a small light, thats luxury! all of the facilities seemed to be cleaned daily and we had no problems. HI Seattle wasn't my best experience. The rooms were poor as were the beds. A lot of squeaking for all beds. It's location isn't the best one in Seattle as well. A good thing is, it's close to the Subway and Amtrak Station. No alcohol in the building as a first rule was a bit disappointing to me. Not that I'm a needy alcoholic, but a beer with some fellow travelers in the common area is always nice. The common area is large, with some power outlets and when I was there a bit dirty. The kitchen however is clean on a normal size and has all amenities you need for cooking. Restrooms are clean and private Poor breakfast and bad Internet connection, however free so no further complaints. Staff is allright, not what you expect to see in a hostel. They could be a bit more enthusiastic and helpful. I was glad I could leave this place, price-value a bit overpriced. Never come back here again. read more

My brother and I stayed here for one night as we were in Seattle to take in a Seahawks football game. The American Hotel was great because it was affordable on the budget I'd set for the trip as well as it's proximity to Qwest Field (3 blocks away). We really enjoyed our stay, making friends with people from all over, and enjoying the facilities, which were a little different than our usual travel fare but compensating for things regular hotels usually lack. There was a real charm about the hostel, and they had all the comforts of home. Parking can be a bit of an issue as it's on-street parking, but if you can get a good spot you're set! I will definitely be staying here again! Our one complaint was that the beds were just a touch uncomfortable, but we both slept alright. We shared a 4 bed room with two other travelers and again while not being what we're used to this was not something we couldn't adjust to. The kitchen was very well equipped and is open 24 hours, and there is also a TV room, library, and a laundry/locker room available if needed. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable and affordable place to stay. read more

This is by far the most boring hostel I've ever been to. For me a hostel is more than just a building with a bed, it's about the whole experience: the people you meet, the things you do, the fun you have. I still give this hostel two stars because it's pretty clean and tidy. We booked this hostel via hostels.com, but for some unclear reason a staff member had trouble copying our names to their own database. So when we tried to alter our reservation by phone the day before arrival they searched half an hour for our reservation and finally made a new one, because they couldn't find it. Despite this annoying issue the staff is nice, but when we needed to get our passports from the car we had to wait in line again, so it took us almost an hour to check in. The room was very small, but is was clean and every bed had it's own lamp, fan and some outlets, which was nice. But like I said, it's not about the room, it's about the whole experience. I never stayed in a Hostelling International before, but apparently they don't allow any alcoholic beverages in the building. This is the craziest thing ever and therefore I'd never recommend this hostel to anyone. There is a common room, but it looks more like an office. A couple of people were staring at their laptops, no interaction whatsoever, I never experienced this lame vibe in a hostel before. If you are looking for a hostel in a shabby neighborhood and if you like bums and other freaky people walking around after dark, then this is the place for you. If you visit a hostel to relax in a common room, have a beer with other travelers and enjoy meeting new people, then this is definitely not the place for you. read more

The location is phenomenal, there are so many Asian restaurants and foods and it is right next to public transportation. I recommend going to the sushi place right next to it if you love sushi, they are one of the best and cheap. There's also a really good tea store with a large selection of traditional Chinese tea and boba tea. The staff at the hostel is nice, free towels, good security, its right in front of an Asian supermarket. I stayed while in town for a conference. I was impressed with how clean the common spaces were, including the bathrooms and kitchen. Bathroom cleanliness is the most important for me and HI Seattle didn't disappoint in this. The selection for the continental breakfast was underwhelming but being in the Int'l District, there's plenty of inexpensive and tasty eateries around. The location is central (20 min. to Pike Market and a stone throw to the stadiums and bus/train station), quiet and surprisingly safe. I was quite comfortable wandered many a night around the city and neighbourhood around HI. Will stay again. Would even be quite comfortable in bringing little ones and elders here. read more

This was my 2nd experience at a Hostel International. I have a disability, and they allow access to the elevation if you need it. The Green Tortoise and City Hostel do not have this. You can stay for 14 days at HI, but only 7 days at the Green Tortoise and City. I was there visiting a Doctor, so money was budgeted. The tour was great by Kayla, though my timing was off for most of the tours. I loved the happy hours, live music, etc., though! Almost all the events are free (except your bus fare if it is needed for a tour). I enjoyed the ability to make several new friends from around the world. I loved the kitchen/cooking. The grocery store is one BLOCK away. So close! The kitchen/dining area was large, so can handle the groups of people. Lunch was a ghost town (yea!). Due to my disability, it was easier around 5 pm or wait until 8- 8:30 for dinner, due to the popularity of the kitchen. I thought the housekeeping was great- stay and watch them clean the kitchen after everyone goes! Or the bathrooms/rooms! Guest tosses their towels EVERYWHERE. I asked to stay for an extra night. I was grated it easily. A very helpful staff- Sam told me how to get to one bus, a different staff member told me how to get to another bus. As well as a mryiad of other questions... The hostel is in an ideal location for public transportation, which is how I always get around. I look forward to my next stay with them! read more

Great location--Seattle's Chinatown with Yelp's favorite Vietnamese and Dim Sum restaurants just a few blocks away. Also, the post office is across the street. Need to pay $2.50/hr between 8 a and 8 p, Monday to Saturday. The Pike's Market, Space Needle and Ferry Terminal are close by. Area is safe. Have fun! read more

Hmmmm... I've stayed at some very good and very bad hostels...so it's kinda hard to really give this a rating. I'd say 3 stars over all...but compared to the other hostel in Seattle, i'd give this place a 2. So, 2.5 it is. If you're familiar with Hostelling international, then you know they have certain rules that, are good or bad, depending on what you want out of a hostel. One rule is no outside drinks allowed inside. Another quiet time after 11 pm. If this sounds good to you, then by all means, go here. I stayed one night, place was ultra mint, just newly built with an awesome kitchen and common area. Only thing is, this place has no character...and is just straight up boring. People stick to themselves...seems more like a hotel. But if you want privacy (in a hostel environment), cleanliness, and just a place to stay...I'd recommend it. I stayed here with a friend for one night during Bumbershoot music festival in the summertime. Having arrived from Vancouver, this hostel is nice and close to the train station (took us a while to find it, but it was closer than we thought). The rooms are clean and the bathrooms were the same! They offer lockers and towels, there is a kitchen area and there are several communal gathering spots. The staff were great in recommending us places to eat, giving directions and such. We had read other reviews on hostel websites about this place and it sounded quite rough, but our experience was totally fine. After initial skepticism, this place turned out to be a great and convenient spot to stay after taking the train over in the morning, and where we could dump our bags for the day too. That night, there was an arrest outside which was quite exciting, but we were on our way inside the hostel as the guy was being apprehended. I'm sure in the later hours of the night and in the early hours of the morning it isn't necessarily the safest area, as we discovered the next morning. However, the hostel itself was great for a night. There were families staying there as well, and people from everywhere. Was close enough to the downtown area, about 15-20 min by bus, but the appeal was mainly because it's close to the train station. I would stay here again, but not for the whole time I'd be staying in Seattle. read more

American Hotel is a great hostel to stay at when in Seattle. It definitely doesn't break the bank with their rates and provides a good home base for those who want to venture out and see the sites. I stayed there 2 nights in a double and found that it suited my needs - I spent 90% of my time out and about. Keep in mind that it is a hostel and not a hotel - even though the name suggests otherwise :) - so as far as providing a sense of how to go about exploring the city and doing the things you're interested in, they can definitely help you out. Highlights: - Provides a great intro to Seattle for tourists w/ the materials they have available (i.e. tours, flyers, bulletin boards on each floor) - Helpful and approachable staff/front desk - Great base location in Chinatown/International District for those hoping to explore Seattle either by foot, light rail, and/or monorail. For newcomers to Seattle, I'd recommend walking to Columbia Center (10-15 mins walking distance) to get a sense of the layout of the city. I'd definitely recommend going to Columbia Center over the Sky Tower for an aerial view. - Hostel is nearby Uwajimaya - an Asian supermarket with a decent food court. You can stock up on food, toiletries, and etc there. - The mattresses for the beds aren't Marriott-quality, but they are comfortable. - Complimentary breakfast 6AM-9AM The Chinatown/International has some side streets with some questionable characters. Just have your wits about you and you will be fine. Side Note: if you do not specifically ask for card access for the elevators and you scan your card at any of the elevator pads, it may cause your card to malfunction when trying to scan the pad for your room. Great location right in the heart of CT, fast good food in CT, close to a large Japanese market for fresh groceries, down the street from Bruce Lee's stomping grounds and a nice tribute to him at a nearby museum within walking distance. Clean room, city tour groups too. Seattle is great place to visit, especially in the summer months. read more
