Someone insured with this company rear-ended my vehicle and totaled it. They advised me to go to one of their preferred shops the very next day after the accident, and they deemed the vehicle a total loss. They did not offer me a rental vehicle, and when I asked for one, they claimed that I couldn't get one because the vehicle was totaled. They offered me this lowball offer and would not pay for the lost income that we suffered from the total loss, which took them weeks to determine a settlement amount. When you call, you are sitting on hold for over an hour before someone picks up. Everyone you speak with tells you a different story, and they never have a straight answer for anything. This company is horrible. They need to be investigated. I wish I could give them zero stars. read more

I actually got to meet one of the women who not only trains new employees, but is in higher level position at this company. Her name is Ariana. Although I never received services or help from here, I feel absolutely horrible for anyone that does. Not only does she have a group chat where they talk about other employees, their bosses especially, they celebrate denying customers. Just know that if you were ever denied or even called here, they talked about your situation in detail, laughed about it like they were at a comedy show, and celebrated how great it felt to do so. They get off on it, literally. Her and the other women in that group. She told me about an older Hispanic man who was in a horrible car accident, and was even crying to her. She laughed about his situation and said "yea, so I denied him. Now he has no job and has to pay out of pocket. I did that." She was so happy with the outcome. American Freedom sends through a repair estimate which was well below what the actual cost will be to fix the vehicle. The estimate comes in at $2,430.02. We point out that the estimate does not include the broken leaf spring and shackle hanger which their estimator didn't put on the first quote. We are talking hundreds of dollars in additional parts and labor. A week later we get the new quote which went up $27.76. How could this be when even their new quote shows $114.48 for a shackle and $200 for a "recycled" leaf spring? We suddenly the estimate had less labor needed to do the repairs! Seriously, they now have to add $314.48 in additional parts, plus the labor to do the work and they try to pull this switch. This screams out FRUAD in my opinoin. This company has a long and systematic pattern of trying to cheat people out of claims. Take 5 minutes and you can see from many of their reviews that they do this often. I had to file my claim, and their insured took forever to get back to them with their side of the story, so they help up the claim. Daniella and her Team 2 are just awful to work with. I never heard from them, In my opinion, Beth being a "supervisor" in any capacity at this company proves the company has no scruples. Got into a car accident in 2022, I was in felt of the car accident, I had full coverage. and AFI are refurling to pay me for all the medical bills, towing/storage, rental vehicle, and for the told loss of the vehicle. I have gotten an attorney to help me out and there is no way you can give them a lawsuit to AFI. AFI after the car accident they were not useful they are refurling to answer my call and email to them also they forced me have put change my policy into business policy and charge me $4,500 to keep my policy with them. I now have State Farm and charge me $650 for their policy. Today in total I have spent more than $50k in getting a new vehicle, medical bills, towing/storage and new insurance policy with SF and I haven't gotten a single penny out of them except for excuses. read more

I have the same story as pretty much everyone on here: someone insured with them rear-ended my car and after over 2 months of this being dragged out, they decided to deny the claim. The story they told me was that their customer was "in breach of contract" so they dropped her and aren't honoring any claims she may have filed. It apparently doesn't matter that she was insured with them at the time of the accident and filed the claim initially. They had me drive to a mechanic for an estimate (that I never even saw a copy of, so they're probably some POS company too) that wasn't even close by. Such a waste of time. Despite being told multiple times that someone would be contacting me in "a few days," nobody EVER called me from this place. The only communication I had with them was because I called, wondering how the hell so much time had gone by with no resolution. At this time, I'm still waiting for the formal denial letter (been told for 2 days now that it will be emailed to me at the end of the day) and have filed a complaint with the Illinois Department of Insurance and will be filing with the Attorney General's office as well. And if anyone is lucky enough to speak with Beth, one of the supposed supervisors, good luck. She would hardly let me get a word in, just kept continually interrupting me and repeating the exact same thing over and over again. This company deserves 0 stars! I do not understand how and why they are still in business to this day (especially with all the negative reviews). If you notice 5-star reviews, they are coming "employees". Back on June 25, 2019 I was involved in a "hit and run" accident while sitting at a traffic stop. I got injured from the impact. Luckily one of the drivers on the road was able to block the person who hit me from driving further and contacted the local police. Once the police arrived and collected information, it turned out that the driver that hit me had a suspended license for a while. The driver also had insurance with American Freedom. After the local police was done investigating the accident, the driver had the nerve to tell me to not contact his insurance and to reach out to him so he can cover the damage himself. From this moment, I knew it was going to be hell from here on out. The next day, I contacted American Freedom Insurance to open a claim on one of their insured drivers. Evelyn T. from the Claims Department at American Freedom emailed me a 5-page form to be filled out asking so many detailed questions (many that are unnecessary). I proceeded to fill it out and forward a copy of the police report and body shop estimates. I then receive another email from Claims Representative Yesenia R. requesting for my Medicare and Medicaid information. I find this odd because I don't have Medicare or Medicaid coverage, only commercial medical insurance coverage (Aetna) and the medical benefits from my own auto insurance (State Farm). After I submitted all the requested information they needed, American Freedom reached out to let me know that they are not going to let me use a body shop of my choice to get my vehicle damage repaired. They went with one of their "cheaper" body shops which was about $2,100 less - one where they use old scraps from the yard. Also, I was undergoing physical therapy and medications from the injuries I got from the accident; which resulted in maxing out my medical coverage from my own auto insurance company. They were urging me to sign their "Release and Settlement" form as soon as possible. This was not acceptable and I decided to get legal involved. I contacted a few lawyers and I got lucky to find one that would take my case. I learned some lawyers do not want to deal with American Freedom Insurance and I can clearly see why. My lawyer and I (including my own insurances State Farm and Aetna) worked tirelessly for 2 years with American Freedom. My lawyer filed for an Arbitration. American Freedom did not want to agree with the original reasonable settlement deal especially when it was their OWN insured driver who was at fault on a suspended license. After several negotiations back and forth; American Freedom, my lawyer, and I agreed with a "smaller" compensation in mid-February 2021. The final compensation offer was not enough to cover all expenses, but my lawyer, State Farm, Aetna, and I split the cost. In my years of driving, I have never dealt with an auto insurance company this horrendous. Whenever I would contact them through the phone, they will say "they are looking into it" and never return my calls. American Freedom Insurance is very unprofessional and a complete fraud! It's so unbelievable that my lawyer and I had to deal with their bullshit for 2 years! I am hoping that none of you gets into an accident with an American Freedom insured driver. If you do, file a police report no matter how big or small the accident is AND I highly suggest you find a lawyer to take on your case immediately! This place is a joke. I was hit by one of their insured drivers on 08/20/21 and filed a claim with American Freedom to get my car fixed. I filed the claim and they sent me to one of their repair shops on 08/28 to get an estimate. I also sent over the police report, IL motorist report and the paperwork they asked me to fill out. I haven't heard a word since. I called today (09/09) and sat on hold for over 30 minutes only to be told by a rude customer service agent that the guy that hit me hasn't responded to their phone calls, emails and snail mail and therefore they can't/won't process the claim. I pointed out the obvious that if the guy isn't calling them back, he's clearly guilty and she told me that "she can't be sure of that". Per the suggestions from other posts, I did file a complaint with the Illinois Department of Insurance. Avoid this company at all costs. This company and group of workers are an absolute joke. We are talking scum of the earth here, people. Honestly, people who probably ought to burn in hell. My blood pressure soars just thinking about them and their money grabbing scheme. American Freedom is a bottom of the barrel insurance company that promises low rates to drivers. Unfortunately, they're able to fulfill this promise because they never intend to make appropriate payouts for the damages their drivers cause. I was offered $250 to repair my vehicle, despite their driver being found entirely at fault, with my repairs estimated at $4,000. I spoke with friends and family who are lawyers and insurance agents and their advice was, "Good luck." They were familiar with how this company operates and the pitiful people working for them. They let me know that it would likely cost me more in the long run to take legal action. Not to mention, the frustration and hassle of going through that process. The claims process was extremely drawn out, I mean we are talking months, they were not accommodating in providing a rental vehicle even though my vehicle was not drivable that entire time, terrible communication, and inaccurate assessments. Just a brief example: They claimed my vehicle had 30,000 miles more than the speedometer read. I ended up having to cut my losses, take the $250, and make only functional repairs to my vehicle to make it safe to drive, which still totaled over $2,000 and came entirely out of my own pocket. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and Insurance Association when I get the chance. Moral of the story is: you can be a good person and carry good insurance, but if an absolute moron hits you and has a garbage insurer, like American Freedom, you are left to suffer. My advice would be to carry collision on your plan so your company can do the work for you to obtain adequate compensation for your losses and minimize your repair costs. Truthfully, I wouldn't wish an encounter with American Freedom Insurance on my worst enemy. To the people who work for American Freedom, you are savages. My vehicle was in an accident with an insured member of American Freedom Insurance Company. The insured has acknowledged they were at fault for causing the accident. The company has not handled the claim for myself or the insured. The accident occurred on March 18, 2020, my car is not drivable and yet they continue to shirk their duty. They literally lied on the insured regarding missing documentation. When I informed them that I have been in contact with the insured and know they provided all requested documentation, the individual became silent and then responded "oh well it wasn't the right documentation and we told them". I immediately got off the phone a reached out to the insured, who informed me that was not accurate information, and every form they have asked for has been provided or they are told it is not the right one. It is sad that an insurance company takes money for coverage but refuses to handle claims. What recourse does the average citizen have against a thief masquerading as a business? Got into an accident that wasn't my fault when the other driver who's under this insurance reversed full force into my car totally damaging the front of my 2 year old Chevy Cruze. It took a month and a half to "settle" my claim. When I kept calling they told me they were still waiting on paper work and about a month in they told me the claim was accepted and to expect a phone call 3-5 days later for everything to be finalized. 4 days later I call back since no one bothered to call me and they tell me the claim was denied because of a "coverage issue" I'm now about 3 months in without a car, it's still waiting in the body shop to get fixed and my insurance is no better than this one.
