After getting scammed by an Air B&B in-person transaction, my family and I were left with no place to stay when we arrived in Venice, Italy. It was the night of my parent's 30th wedding anniversary and my sister's 24th birthday so we really just wanted to get in and have a special dinner asap, that didn't happen. Instead as we walked the streets late, around 12:30am, we stumbled across the Centrium Hotel. It was there where we told the night manager our situation and were in dyer need of a room/s for 5 people. He unfortunately was booked but called his good friend nearby at The American-Dinesen Hotel. They had two rooms for us and were only a 5 minute walk down the canals in the area of Dorsoduro. We immediately accepted.
Upon arriving at the American-Dinesan, the hotel sits on a canal (Accademia) at the foot of a walking bridge. The hotel is warm on the outside painted with a buttery yellow paint and dark wood trimmings. Each window is dressed with beautiful sprouting pink flowers. Most of the rooms have access to a walk around balcony.
When walking inside, the hotel feels clean and contemporary. All of the hotel greeters during our stay had excellent service. They all went above and beyond to deliver 5 star service. We stayed 3 nights leading up to 4th of July and were expecting a large bill - they told us they gave us a special rate because of the scam situation we went through on our night of arrival so they charged us a reasonable rate, $150 for a queen room that sleeps 2 and $200 for a room that sleeps 4. Still pricey but its Venice, everything is expensive!
The hotel has a free breakfast from 7am - 10am everyday. It's your standard European breakfast, lots of different types of croissants, yogurts, butter cookies, cold cuts, cheeses, fruit juices, American coffee and Italian coffee (espresso or cappuccinos), fruit, etc.
The hotel also has a community patio with outdoor furniture where you can enjoy prosecco or a beer at sundown. We were given a bottle of prosecco on the house along with some snacks to celebrate my parent's anniversary.
Most special part about this hotel are it's rooms. When you walk in, you immediately are overwhelmed with a beautiful "jewelry box" venetian decor. The walls are padded and covered with a rose fabric and the windows are dressed in elegant drapes from the ceiling to the floor. The windows are french doors that open up to the balcony as well. The beds are very comfortable, TV's have every channel in just about any language, and the toiletries are extensive in the bathrooms along with slippers and robes.
Very charming hotel, if I go back to Venice I'll absolutely stay there again! Ciao ciao! read more
