I had my dog Cooper trained by American Canine Academy years ago, and the foundation they gave Cooper has been amazing. What makes them truly special is that the support doesn't stop after graduation! I still love attending their Saturday pack walks. Our most recent hike in Boulder was absolutely beautiful. Trainer Jackie and K9 Frost led a fantastic, well-organized group, and it was such a great way to enjoy nature while practicing good obedience in a real-world setting. It is rare to find a training team that builds such a lasting community and cares so much about dogs long after training is finished. Highly recommend them to any dog owner! read more

We are so grateful we found American Canine Academy. Aspen means everything to us, and it means the world knowing she's in such good hands. Melanie was our trainer and she is amazing. She's so positive, energetic, and clearly knows her stuff, and Aspen responded to her right away. She taught us so much along the way too, which made a huge difference -- Aspen went from a wiggly, easily distracted puppy to confidently walking off leash and playing happily with other dogs, and we couldn't be prouder of her. Jackie and Jayden have also been wonderful -- Aspen absolutely adores them, and you can tell they genuinely care about the dogs they work with. The whole team brings so much positivity to every session, and it shows in how happy and comfortable Aspen is with them. read more

We needed help with our 1 year old Great Pyrenees mix who was a good girl but was a jumper, leash puller and just a rambunctious dog. We tried doing 12 weeks of Pet Smart training and while she was good it didn't result in a sustainable results. As recently new parents to a newborn we needed her to be on her best behavior. We reached out to multiple training facilities and toured them. American Canine Academy was by far the most dog friendly, focused and communicative training facility. They provided us with a detailed guide into what the program consisted of and we got weekly report cards with video and summaries. She was loved and treated with the utmost care. I WOULD recommend this location/team to everyone who wants to see their dog/loved one become a stellar companion. We will be a life long customer with ACA! read more

We had a really good experience with Milo's 2-week training program. From the beginning, the team was very supportive and communicative, sending us updates and videos during his stay, which really helped since we missed him so much. When Milo came home, we immediately noticed improvements with commands, structure, place, heel, crate training, and overall behavior inside the house. The trainers took the time to teach us how to continue the training at home and answered all of our questions patiently. What we appreciate the most is that their support did not end after pickup. They have continued helping us with follow-up advice, videos, and offering private lessons whenever needed. It really feels like they care about Milo's long-term success and not just the training period itself. Milo is still working on reactivity outside around dogs and people, but we understand that consistency and continued practice at home are important, and we appreciate all the guidance they have given us so far. Thank you again to the whole team for all the work, care, and support with Milo! read more

We sent our 9-month-old puppy, Tippi, to American Canine Academy for their four-week board and train, and we honestly couldn't be happier with the results. She came home so well-behaved, obedient, and calm -- it feels like we have a new dog (in the best way possible!). The trainers were incredible to work with and really took the time to explain everything when we picked her up. You do have to keep up the training at home, but they set you up for success and it's absolutely worth it. The whole team is awesome -- friendly, professional, and you can tell they truly care about the dogs. The facility is also super clean and well-run. Highly recommend to anyone thinking about professional training -- totally worth the investment! read more

ACA has provided expert training and care for our dog since he was a puppy. They are caring, thorough, consistent, and effective. Koda loves to board with them and always comes home happy. All of the trainers that have taught Koda have been excellent. And they've trained us as well in the skills we need to maintain Koda's confidence and good behavior. We highly recommend Sean and his team for training, boarding, daycare, and anything else that will ensure your pup is a happy, healthy, well-behaved member of your family. Services read more

My husband and I have been absolutely thrilled with the work American Canine Academy does. Our dog Maggie generally needed to learn her basic training and had high reactivity to dogs. To the point where she could not see another dog without going into barking and lunging behaviors. This made it hard to keep her under control and led to us signing up. During their Immersion Basic program Maggie was boarded with their trainers for a few weeks. During this time, I received weekly personalized report cards that included photos and videos of her progress. Their team was very attentive and answered any questions I had via email and text while she was away. After a few weeks of working with Sean and Melanie, Maggie was sitting in the same room as another dog. Something we thought would be impossible not too long ago. She was walking around and calmly sitting next to her handler. It was a night and day difference I am so thankful for. After graduating the program, they. offer unlimited follow-up 1-on-1 lessons. These are meant to refresh both you and your dog with the skills they've learned, as well as provide tips to make you both more confident. Their team also meet at a different park every Saturday for group classes! I cannot thank Melanie and Sean enough for helping our sweet girl, Maggie. They have been beyond helpful and responsive during her training. I look forward to our next follow-up and group class! read more

There is something magical happening inside the fences at American Canine Academy. I brought my dog, Chief, in for some further obedience training after adopting him and working on behavioral issues myself and the trainers here were able to get him to that next level of obedience. He was booked into a 2 week board and train where I regularly received update videos and reports about his progress, what has been worked on since the last update and what is going to be worked on moving forward. Leaving my dog for 2 weeks was not easy but every update I received brought with it comfort in knowing he was happy, safe, and taken care of. I travel around 20 days out of the month for work so my dog is also boarded here when I don't have family or friends that can watch him. Every time I bring my dog here, he knows what is about to happen and you can tell he really does enjoy spending time here. He gets incredibly excited during the drive and when we arrive, and I attribute that to the amount of attention and love that he receives while he is staying here. My schedule is pretty chaotic so there are constant changes to my dogs boarding including early pick ups, cancellations, extensions, changing of pick up times and the crew here has been so understanding, helpful, reassuring and flexible with my schedule and I am eternally grateful! On top of all of that, they also offer group classes on Saturdays and Sundays (Sundays just started which is very welcomed) so you can further your dogs obedience training and the trainers can watch you with your dog and correct your human behaviors as well as the dog behaviors. With all that being said, a massive thank you and shout out to Melanie, Jayden, Jackie, Nicole, and everyone else who I am blanking on or haven't met yet who has had a hand in working with Chief and working with me! read more

We could not be more thankful to American Canine University for their work with our sisters-from-different-misters, Piper and Alex. They were both Covid pups and at 5 and 6 it just seemed that we were not living our best quality of life with them as we were unable to take them many places, including hiking because of their reactions to other people and dogs. It continues to be, and will always be a work in progress, but we can see and feel the benefit. Each day they grow more and it is apparent they thrive from and feel more confident from the training. We train with them daily regardless of how much time we do or do not have using the skills taught to us by the trainers at ACA. We see a bright future for our family with Piper and Alex being alongside of us on these adventures instead of at home. The hardest part of the 4-week board and train was not having them at home, however, seeing the videos and how happy they were throughout the process made it apparent they were in great hands and well cared for. It is amazing the skills we have learned as well as they support, we have gained through ACA for the duration of Piper and Alex's lives ensuring it is the best possible life they can live. read more

American Canine Academy helped us learn to be in change of our delightfully rambunctious 4 month old Bernedoodle. We had an outstanding experience with American Canine Academy in Commerce City, and I can confidently say it made a lasting impact on both our dog and us as owners. About a year ago, our dog Maddie (who was 5 at the time) went through ACA's one-month immersion training program. Going into it, she was quite reactive - especially toward other dogs, and occasionally toward people as well. We were hopeful the program would help curb her aggressiveness and make her a better overall canine citizen. The results truly exceeded our expectations. Maddie's temperament noticeably softened, and she became far less reactive in situations that used to trigger her. In addition to that transformation, ACA did an excellent job reinforcing all the foundational commands - "here," "place," "heel," "sit," "stay," etc. Just as importantly, they didn't just train Maddie - they equipped us with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to continue building on that foundation at home. One of the most impressive aspects of ACA is their ongoing support. Their commitment doesn't end when the program does - they stay with you for the life of your dog. They offer weekly group training sessions for all program graduates, (free of charge!), which have been incredibly valuable. These sessions are run by their trainers, who are always available to provide real-time guidance on any challenges you are facing. The group setting itself is a huge benefit. It gives both dogs and owners the opportunity to practice skills in a controlled environment, with distractions, which is essential for real-world success. As an owner, I've learned a tremendous amount from these sessions and rarely miss a week. If you are looking for a training program that delivers real results and long-term support, I highly recommend American Canine Academy. They truly care about the dogs they work with and the people who love them. - DavidS read more

Did a board and train years ago. Well worth the investment. Use them for boarding when we travel, go to their Saturday group classes as much as I can, and just had a 1:1 w Melanie to brush up on my skills. American Canine Academy is the best! My best friend, Honey, and I started with immersion (board and train) years ago and have been relying on ACA ever since. We go regularly for day care, boarding and weekly group class with the absolutely fantastic trainers, Melanie, Jayden and Nicole. When I adopted Honey she was reactive to other dogs and people, she pulled on the leash and was generally hard to handle Now, she's relaxed and a true pleasure to be with. So, great thanks to Sean and everyone at ACA for taking such good care of Honey! Thank you!! read more

I had called several times to speak to staff and I even spoke to a lead trainer which I'm glad I did. They will not allow training that is only positive reinforcement training and insisted that negative was needed. I'm not paying 3g for a dog to be abused. I'm glad I found this out before sending my dog here. I'm glad I have plenty of other options. read more

Our dog Ozzy is a different boy! He's a black lab and we've had him since he was 8 weeks old. Being pretty dog savvy we foolishly thought we could manage training him. For the most part, the basic commands were easy enough (he's a smart dog and does love to please) but, our main issue was him bolting during a walk to go see people or dogs that were along our path. So, one broken wrist and innumerable scraped knees and elbows later (not to mention a LOT of embarrassment) we decided we needed the professionals to help us out. And let me tell you...they sure did. We selected in two-week camp, titled "Freedom Foundations" Off-Leash Immersion program. The toughest part was leaving him and not being able to visit him! But, by the end of our intake interview, I could tell it was a very loving vibe and felt no doubt that he would be fine. Additionally, about every 3 days, they send you a very extensive written, pictorial and video report. That was priceless! We picked him up this past Wednesday and were just amazed at the transition from wild, crazy pup (he's 15 months old) to the same sweet doll he was when we dropped him off but COMPLETELY controllable. We live in a high-rise condo which is populated with many wonderful dogs that we encounter regularly in taking Ozzy out for walks (4 or 5 times a day). Thus, we get regular opportunities to test his skills and to improve ours! It's very important to know that you will need to continue the training with your pup to, not only hone your skills as a handler but to reinforce to your pup your expectations for his behavior. The other amazing bonus to this program is you get lifelong access to additional training. One on one sessions with you and your pup and a trainer. Group sessions. Weekend field trips walking with other ACADT graduates and trainers facilitating the walk and correcting handler issues along the. I cannot say enough how pleased we are with the "product" we received (you also get a choker chain, e-collar, training leash and a "place" bed. More importantly, we could not be happier with our experience with the trainers and owner of the facility. Melody, Jackie, Kensey, Sean and everyone else behind the scenes, thank you so,so much and we look forward to seeing you as time goes on. Kim, Bruno and Ozzy read more

This place changed my life. Our dog was so out of control that we could barely have guests over because he'd jump all over them or bark the whole time if we put him in another room. This was after going through two obedience classes at another place. He was a rescue and came to us with behavioral issues that couldn't be solved without the intensive training that we found at American Canine Academy. He went through the 6-week training where he worked heavily with Isaac and he came back an entirely different dog. He now listens to commands and places in his bed when we have guests over. He's not perfect and still tests us but that just takes time with us continuing to reinforce his training and show him that he has to respect us and that we won't let him get away with his old behaviors. Another perk is that he and our other dog that used to not get along are now pretty much okay with each other. We just got back from an overnight trip which would have never been a possibility to take our dog with us before, much less both of them. We were able to actually enjoy being together as a family and went on lots of walks and played in creeks. We never would have imagined that it would be possible to take him on vacation with us. read more

We've used American Canine Academy for both boarding and training for our big beasts for the past three years. Our Doberman/Lab and our Great Pyrenees had very different training issues and we needed someone who understood these breeds, especially with our stubborn/aggressive/fearful Great Pyrenees. Both dogs did the Board and Train program and it was money well spent. Jasmine went above and beyond to earn the trust of our Great Pyrenees and we are very happy with the training as well as the ongoing guidance and expertise from the ACA trainers. Our dogs love them. We also board our dogs with American Canine Academy, where the staff is always happy to see them and I know they are well cared for when we're out of town. Sean and staff have always been so kind and caring and I never worry about our pets when they are in their expert care. read more

We adopted a second dog and decided to bring her to ACA for the same training our first adopted dog received. Our second time around was wonderful and we are so thankful. I knew Sean for a few years before taking in our aggressive dog for training. We had a rescue that was severely abused for about 2 years before we got him and he immediately became overly protective of our family and tried (and succeeded once) to bite everyone who came within a large berth of all of our family members. I was very worried and my tension obviously didn't help my dog's behavior. Sean and his entire staff were AMAZING, and that's an understatement. They were so great at calming my nerves and working with our big beast, even though all our doggo wanted to do was bite everyone he saw. He is an amazing trainer and we were finally able to take a family vacation because we had a trusted boarder as well in the ACA. I've been using American Canine Academy (ACA) for around a year, and I cannot overstate my appreciation for this extraordinary operation. The staff are always helpful and considerate of the humans, not to mention being loving and supportive of the dogs in their care. Communicating with ACA is a breeze; they truly put their clients first. Their boarding options are incredibly competitive with the sometimes exorbitant rates in the Front Range, and my pups always come back from daycare exhausted and happy (just what I'm looking for). As someone who has seen his travel requirements for work skyrocket in the last year, ACA offers something to me that is virtually inestimable in value: Peace of mind. Knowing my two girls are being loved and sheltered by such consummate professionals is not only fantastic for my dogs, but takes a burden off my mind as I travel to who-knows-where. The only reason I will ever stop using ACA is if I move out of the greater Denver area. They are nothing short of fantastic! read more

Both the manager and the owner reached out to us regarding our issues that occurred with our stays. The owner stated he went back and reviewed the security system on our most recent stay and found some areas of concern. We discussed the issues and the owner stated that my interaction and experience was not what should have happened with our dogs. Our experience was with the overall stay in general and not with any single employee. We appreciate the owner and manager reaching out to us and attempting to rectify the situation. We have been assured that our concerns will be addressed and they will make steps to make sure this doesn't happen in the future for other pet owners. Whether we will take our dogs back or not remains to be decided, but we appreciate the contact and communication. read more

American Canine Academy has, no doubt, changed my (and my dog's) life - putting my dog, Pippin, in the advanced immersion training program was the best decision I've ever made for her, and for myself. Pippin is a sweet, but difficult, rescued hound mix from Texas. Before working with Sean and Jasmine, Pippin was hyperactive, inattentive, and difficult to train and communicate with. While loving and smart, she has a stubborn personality and definitely knows how to push boundaries. I used to say she was a "good girl, bad dog." Multiple trainers with various methods were unsuccessful for Pippin in the past; I believed I had an "un-trainable" dog, but ACA proved otherwise. I signed her up for the advanced immersion training program after our consultation with Jasmine, who has been incredibly friendly, communicative, invested, and professional from the start. Throughout the program, I received weekly report cards, which included videos of her training and updates on her progress. Toward the end of the program, it was determined that Pippin would need a few extra weeks to ensure her success and fine-tune her learned skills. Jasmine continued Pippin's training (at no extra cost) until she was ready, giving Pippin the extra care and attention she needed to succeed. It is clear that Jasmine, Sean, and the entire team at ACA are dedicated to going the extra mile to make sure each and every dog not only learns, but maintains, the skills they learn at American Canine Academy. After her training, Pippin came home as a totally different dog - she is now calm, attentive, and easy to communicate with. She listens to commands and is well-behaved both at home and in public. She walks politely on-leash and remains focused off-leash so I no longer worry about her chasing after a rabbit or prairie dog. To say that Jasmine and Sean changed our lives is an understatement - we wouldn't be able to do a fraction of things we can today without their effort and follow-through. Busy public areas with lots of other dogs, and activities like off-leash walks, hikes, and runs, mountain biking, splitboarding, paddleboarding, swimming, camping, backpacking, long-distance travel, etc. are no longer spent worrying about how Pippin might react or behave. ACA will not only give you an obedient dog, they will give you a dependable companion. Following Pippin's completion of the advanced immersion training program, Jasmine made sure that myself and all other household members understood Pippin's training, commands, and boundaries. As part of their Lifetime Guarantee, ACA offers free group classes every Saturday to practice skills and obedience in a variety of settings. In addition, should any follow-up questions or issues arise, Jasmine is happy to work with us one-on-one at no cost. Jasmine, Sean, and trainer Brenna check in with me periodically to make sure Pippin is doing well, which shows how much they care about each dog's continued success. There is no doubt in my mind that the folks at American Canine Academy are the most compassionate, invested, and professional dog trainers out there. I feel confident recommending ACA to anyone looking for expert training that will transform your relationship with your dog. Thank you so much Sean, Jasmine, and Brenna! I was their client for years and was comfortable enough to leave him under your care for months at a time. I left him there 2-3 months at the time I visit my original country. And many days for multiple times. The last time I left him there from 4-21-21 till 5-10-21. When I first arrived at the facility I saw to young girls leashed 2 different dogs sleeping quietly at the entrance outside. They explained "these 2 dogs are so vicious, so we are watching them." And all the other dogs were caged. I did not ask them how come they did not cage the vicious ones and let the other dogs to play. It appeared that are enjoying the shady front yard instead of taking care of the dogs as they were supposed to. they were sitting next to dogs and chatting with their cellphones at their hands. I was in Miami for my birthday vacation, and I called three times last two voicemails during my stay but did not get any answers, sent 3 text messages "how is my dog doing" and did not get any reply. I also emailed two times explaining my dog is old and he has cancer, and I am terribly worried about him. I basically begged somebody to call back to tell me that my dog was okay.  I taught he was dead, and I was simply being avoided by bad news. Sean was there when I picked up my dog 17 days later. I was almost hysterical when I saw him, I didn't say anything and did not check anything that I was simply so relieved to see he was alive. When I left my dog to your care,  he was 91 pounds. When I get it from them, he was a 78 lbs. He lost 13 pounds in 17 days! You can imagine it is more than 10% of his total body weight. There is no way he concludes that if he was properly fed. He has great appetites because of age and hypothyroidism. And I believe he was not eating all the food I left for him. I even string cheeses to give his hypothyroid medication in it. I wonder if he was ever received his hypothyroid medication. His front paws were completely red with no hair because obviously he was licking them like crazy. There was no hair or skin left, almost open wound. This happens when he is very stress and excessive boredom. Which tells me he was not being cared and was not let him to get socialized. He was being caged for 17 days straight. He acted like he was in delirium two days at home. He was not like himself, he was rushing to leave the place. He did not even looked at me or wagged his tail. It is impossible for him not to jump and being ecstatic when he sees me days later. Clearly, he was excessively stress and traumatized during two weeks stay in that "dog dungeon for torture" facility. When I pick him up, I did not check the bag. I realized they forgot to put his hypothyroid medication back to the bag. I asked so many times to mail his expansive medication to my address. And I live in Boulder Colorado, takes me 2 Hours drive to get his medication from. And I was simply ignored. Nobody ever answered me at all. You still have his medication in the facility. And I simply gave up that somebody is going to act responsibility. Obviously, it is a failure to return all the possessions to the rightful owner. I understand that is very hard to find employees during pandemic. So many businesses struggling. What they chose to do is they close their departments, or completely not taking any clients or stop giving any services to the public whatsoever. I see restaurants limiting their tables because they cannot find servers. If I knew this was going to happen, I would rather die than leaving my dog under their care. And it is SEAN's responsibility as the business owner to monitor/supervise the performance of your team and safety of their clients. You could simply choose not to take any doubts if you do not have proper staffing and supervision to your team. I had purchased a 20 day package. Obviously, I never got a refund the rest of the package I will never use. I cannot tell you how much I suffered for many months. I was not able to dare to write this review any earlier. Because I have been as traumatized as my dog. I'm feeling so guilty that I left him in such terrible condition while I was trying to have fun in my birthday trip. 4 months later he died from abdominal bleeding due to cancer. I am devastated a business owner serve to his clients in such poor ethical, immoral, cruel and irresponsible way. What happened to my dog is animal abuse and severe neglect. And later I received an email from him explaining about poor reviews and "false accusations" on web. I checked and I saw pics and videos a dog being chocked to dead in a training session. It was a brand new young trainer- not him as he advertised. Clearly she had no idea what she was doing. This place needs to be closed down and he should go bankrupt. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT PLACE IS STILL OPEN AND HE IS STILL RECEVING DOGS! We are not living in a safe society. This is true evil and they all have no shame they all working there. read more

We sent our Doodle to American Canine for their 6-week Immersion program. Not only was the check-in/drop-off process easy but we also received weekly training updates and videos of our dog's progress. I could also call/text for updates anytime as well. Our dog ended up staying for an extra couple of weeks because he's a puppy so he needed a little extra time learning the off-leash portion of the training. Pickup was extremely thorough because we reviewed all of his commands; the whole family (including kids) went through a "human training" session. Additionally, we went home with all of the tools to succeed (collars/leashes/instructions, etc.) and feel confident knowing that should any of his training slip (which I am sure will be a shortcoming of the humans in the house and not our dog), that we can bring him in for lifetime refresher sessions. Lastly, Sean (the owner) as well as his trainers and staff Jasmine and Shawna have been so kind, courteous, and patient during our dog's stay and even followed up to check on him once we got home. It's also icing on the cake that we can now bring our dog for boarding and know that he will be cared for by an attentive and caring staff during his future stays. I would definitely recommend American Canine to anyone who is looking for a place to train your dog in the area. Our dog, who was notorious for pulling on his leash and difficult to walk, is now a joy to take outside of the house. He's also MUCH more attuned to the humans in the house and his behavior is infinitely more obedient. read more

Isaac trained Kane, our 2 year old GSD, on basic obedience in the board & train program from 12/4/19-1/13/20. Kane came home and was much improved compared to his obedience prior to training. Ten days after Kane came home, we had an individual follow up session to discuss ways to incorporate structure/ obedience, play and mental stimulus while on extended walks (3- 5 miles). On leash, Kane is near perfect, with infrequent corrections needed. read more

Training ($25): We adopted a rescue puppy and decided to take him for a weekly 1/2-hour training class. Jaime and Jasmin (the Trainers) really understand dogs and our puppy responded very well to them. After a few weeks, the puppy had learned all the basic commands--including not eating his food until we gave a command! Plus, we can let him run off leash and he will immediately return on our command! He is only 4-months old! Day Care ($15): 2-3 times per week, we will drop off the puppy for "play day". He gets to socialize with other dogs, play, and gets training too. When we pick him up, he is happy and tired. It really helps him burn off his energy (he is a Terrier, so he has a LOT of energy)! Board & Train: Next week, we will enroll him in the 4-week program to further his training. I will do a follow-up review in November. Summary: We are lucky to have American Canine Academy available to us. Again, Jaime, Jasmin, and all the ladies are very patient, friendly, and professional Trainers. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! read more

Our dog Tyson did the 4 week board and train. Ever since he got home, he is an entirely different dog while walking on the leash! The staff was very receptive to what we wanted Tyson to work on while he was there. After several attempts with different methods of training (even with other trainers), ACA was the only place that made the training stick. We highly recommend the training they do, and will definitely bring Tyson back for just boarding needs. read more
