Ok so I left from LAX to Miami, they took 3 bags from me for check in. Got to Miami every good so far. Flew from Miami to Tampa but they sent one of my bags to Texas which made no sense to me. I'm in Miami, it's 930 and my cruise ship raises the gangway at 330. They told me the plane from Dallas arrive at 1258. So first the sent my bag to the wrong state but I asked the baggage claim customer service where is my luggage and they tell me it's still in Miami, fortunately I had a tracker and it told me where it was so they lied to me. I went to my ship, dropped other 2 bags off and waited for my bag to land, rushed back to the airport and back to the ship. $75 in ubers because I wasn't just going to sit at the airport. This ruined my vacation. Thanks American. read more

American Airlines, this is to you!! Am ending an almost 50 Year relationship. Purchased a ticket for travel last month for myself and GF. When she came down with Covid, we decided not to risk infecting other fliers and cancelled the ticket. AA.com refuses to credit the ticket because her Frequent Flyer Number is not on the ticket in their system. Yep, its only $370, but its about loyalty that only seems to flow one way! read more

This was the worst airport experience I've ever had in my life. My flight was delayed and rescheduled multiple times to the point I missed my connection home which stranded me in the Charlotte airport 725 miles away from home. The airline did absolutely nothing to accommodate me as far as hotel or food which forced me to stay overnight in the airport until almost 4pm the following day. To top off an already terrible experience my checked bag was routed to the wrong airport. I will never fly this airline again and I'll be sure to tell everyone I know not to as well. I'd give it zero stars if I could read more

Flight was amazing the food was good and drinks were good but we crashed into the ocean

This is going to be a long one. I've been so bothered at the way we were treated that it's taken me a while to get to this review. I don't understand the reasons people have to be so rude and ugly to others. Why can't we be cordial to people and treat them with respect. You never know what others are going through or have experienced and your treatment could be impactful. Hubs has a medical condition and he's on dialysis. We have to travel with his dialysis machine as well as some of the medical supplies. The dialysis machine is his life and can't be checked. We have to travel with it on board the airplane. Prior to travel we aligned with the airline that we'd just have to speak to the attendant at the desk prior to boarding to allow pre boarding and for the machine to be stored in the attendant closet. We arrived at the desk when she arrived and my hubs tried speaking to her to which she rudely kept interrupting him saying "I don't check bags" or "You can't take that on board". I then, after telling myself to breathe jumped in explaining to her that he's trying to explain to you that he has a medical condition and we have to get his machine in board as as well as ask for pre boarding. She said again rudely that it's not going to fit but try speaking to the attendants when boarding. I asked about pre boarding again and she said just come up when they call but only 2 of us could board despite there being 5 in our party. They never called pre boarding. So when they called the the first round I led my hubs through. We proceeded to go then stopped by another RUDE worker. She stopped us and looked at the other rude lady saying is this the machine!? Looks at us and says that's not going to fit, we have to check that. I loudly said we are not checking this. This is my hubs life and it cannot be checked. She then calls over a supervisor. The supervisor was very nice. I explained that this was hubs life and what we were told. He understood and let us proceed. Entering the aircraft the attendants understood and made room in their closet for the machine. I was so appreciative of them and keep saying thank you after the ordeal we went through to get to this point. AA I hope you read this and take action to make changes. Traveling is already stressful especially for those that have medical conditions. You need to properly train staff on customer service and how to properly handle these situations so that travelers don't have to experience what we had to experience. This was absolutely awful!! TBH Tampa was the only hub where we had this issue. TX, HI were amazing and so cordial. read more

Terrible! I went with a ton of bags and I went to a line with a worker named CHARLES LAZY! He saw I was alone with 4 bags he dismissed me and told me to go to the machine. Told him the machine doesn't work with I do check in and then he sent me to the end of ANOTHER LINE! Lazy unhappy clearly didn't want to do his job. This is a classic example of workers that do the bare minimum even if that and make the same salary of a worker that goes above and beyond. This dude should have never been working with customers. I am so disappointed. I always fly with American for their customer service but this dude just made me doubt their quality of late. read more

Saturday I went to take my mother to the airport as she was flying out of the country for Christmas. I went to the American Airlines counter after I checked her in to ask for a gate pass to accompanied my mom. She had a very visible sunflower lanyard on as she's been through a lot lately and been very anxious due to personal and health issues. I kindly asked an agent if I could get a gate pass . I am also TSA approved, global entry and he said "that should not be a problem let me get my supervisor approval" when he comes back with Raquel (the supervisor) she asked who was traveling and I said my mom (she is standing next to me) she gave a look at my mom and said "NO" and walk off with a smile in her face. I could not believe my eyes. I was even in shocked an American Airline supervisor could be so rude to a customer. Specially because if you look at her she looks like such a nice lady, but appearances can be deceiving for sure. Even another traveler who was being helped by the agent next to me, said to me " I am so sorry you should report her" "I get passes to take my grandma all the time, not sure what is her problem" I am not a person of making shows so I walked away and took my mom as far as I could possible could, but indeed I feel that I need to say something because she was so unprofessional, unkind and rude. I am at Ohare trying to fly home. My boarding pass says gate k10 Go there and sit. I look at flight aware and it says gate H4. I go there and wait. Then they tell us gate H9. Go there and wait. I got to the washroom and they move us to gate H14. Then our flight is delayed. This is why people miss their planes. None of the gates thought to put up any sign. I will never use American airlines again. I will stick with spirit or frontier. At least they are communicative. read more

I flew American from Tampa to Austin, direct flight. My boarding pass on my phone, which I had to use like 3 times to get to my gate, all of a sudden t would load when I actually need it to board my flight. I had to step out of line, which made me lose my spot, and now I was forced to check my small bag instead of put it under the seat in front of me. They had to look up my name to print me a boarding pass. I was not thrilled by the delay of boarding, but was still thankful that I wasn't bumped to another flight. My flight was smooth, my seat mates were awesome, and the trip was quick. read more

When checking in bags, the woman at the counter told my husband and I that we'd be on stand by for first class. We changed our flight to earlier and they only had 1 first class left. So we were told we would be first on the list. We went to the boarding counter and the only worker, a large , tall, black man in his 50's. He seemed annoyed to have to talk to anyone at all but here we are, paying customers asking a question...so he told us that we are not on the list. Nothing he could do. Very dismissive and unapologetic. We took the news fine that we would not be on stand by for 1 first class ticket. Now I am boarding and he stops me to tell me my badge is too big. The same bag I've traveled with for years and in 3 flights this same day with no issues. I checked my bag. But now I see all these other people with bags bigger than mine and not in first class. Why am I being discriminated against? Why is the policy not the same for all customers? I ever had another passenger come to me and say he's sorry that the worker did that. He was shocked as I was. Don't fly American. The workers are not kind and don't seem like they want to be there. And this one discriminates. Side note, my seat won't recline in first class and my seat belt doesn't fully buckle. The flight attendant laughed and said the plane is old. Awesome. Feeling safe. lol read more

Flying from DFW. Don't understand why AA can't figure/decide which gate, let alone terminal our flights will depart or return from. Our trip a few weeks ago, 24 hours before our departure AA had our flight leaving from one terminal. Next morning while getting ready in our hotel room it had switched to another terminal. By time we had checked out and boarded shuttle and informed driver which terminal it changed yet again. Then in final terminal while having breakfast our gate was changed. Return flight was to land at a certain terminal but changed during flight to another terminal. It is really hard to plan parking, drop offs or pickups if locations change sometimes hourly. Pick a gate, pick a terminal and stick to it. What's so complicated? read more

American Airlines has the most employees and moves the most passengers out of all the airlines in the world. BUT AA does not make the most money, and their customer service reputation is nothing to write home about either. This was not always the case. When I was a lot younger, AA was the best. Over the years they have lost market share to other airlines which value their customers more. read more

American Airlines is ... not my favorite. Today was my first flight since COVID started, and I don't feel that they made me especially safe during the flight. One flight was completely packed. I get that they want to maximize their revenue. But when I boarded, they gave every passenger a sanitizing wipe to wipe down their seat. That was the full extent of the process to make us feel safe! (I mean, other than requiring masks and stopping beverage service on short flights, sigh.) The staff on the MIA to TPA this afternoon was completely rude and unhelpful. I'm sure everyone was tired. But the attitude from the male flight attendant was the worst I've seen on an airplane in years and years of both business and personal travel. My earlier flight today was about 50% full. Great. I was flying with my son, and when I picked our seats, we had the row to ourselves with the middle seat empty. Why did they put someone in the middle seat if the whole row across from us was empty? Why not put her in the middle seat there to reduce the close contact between strangers? I overheard several other people on the flight grumbling about the same thing. If Delta or Southwest are options with future travel, I'll go with them. American is not doing a great job with making its customers feel safe. And the service has been pretty rotten for years (at least if you're not flying business -- I'll grant that the business class is fine for an American airline). read more

Terrible. Will never ever fly American again. Late. Delayed. Missed connections. Missed our family event. Thanks American.

I am never flying this airline again! The absolute more unorganized mayhem I've ever witnessed at an airport! Our first flight was delayed due to a gate change. Okay no biggie was only 40 min delayed. Then we boarded our 2nd flight from Charlotte to Tampa. Completely boarded and ready to go when they tell us they have a hydraulic leak. We wait on the plane for 1 1/2 hours and then they had us deplane. They said they got us a new plane at a diff gate. Well, it's a shit show. They are changing every gate and no one could figure out where to go. They were very unhelpful. There were three flights to Tampa so it was confusing. We finally get to the right gate and we are told that it was delayed due to changing in the bags from our other plane and it was raining. Then that gets figured out and then they say it's gonna be delayed even longer because they have to change a tire. 4 hours later we board. Then sit on the runway for 35 min! I know they could not control the weather, but I'm not sure why there were so many maintenance issues and the staff was rude and unhelpful at the gates. It was completely unorganized, and there was no direction for anyone of where to go. After landing finally!! We wait 1 1/2 for our bags that are soaking wet! They just left them out in the rain and didn't care. I understand they can't transfer the bags if there is lightning, but they just left them out there for so long only to have lost a lot of peoples bags! They were still in Charlotte and never got put on the new plane even though that's why they told us we were delayed. The last time we flew American everything was delayed, and the gate changes were a mess as well. They also lost both of our bags and never put them on our connecting flight! Then.... A woman working down by baggage claim started getting into a fight with a passenger! She was completely rude and unprofessional, and almost fought him! He was just asking a question and she was being extremely extremely rude and very aggressive. Two of her coworkers had to hold her back!!! This is the most absurd thing I've ever seen in my life! read more

American Airline sucks hard. They changed the standby, same day transfer to be same stops at same airports and they hide the option. The gate agents are too dumb to know they are making them obsolete. They're not friendly. They're not helpful. The bathrooms or so small you have to stand sideways. This industry needs a disruptor. read more

It's been a while since I've flown American into Tampa. A poor incident last Summer with the carrier had me pretty much abandon using them at all. This trip itinerary was Atlanta to Tampa and was delayed about 20 minutes with malfunction of some sort that required maintenance to inspect. No stars are being deducted as safety is the priority always. The flight offered beverage service but was cut off when there was turbulence. Again safety first, but sucked because I was really thirsty. I can't say it was not a good flight because we landed safely. Ultimate goal right? No issues, so I'm at a 4. However I don't go out of my way to book American these days. The poor reviews on this Yelp speak for themselves. read more

Very good service out of Tampa. I have most of my points on American, so always check them first when traveling. Very fortunate/lucky/blessed to be able to sit in the front of the plane. Service was great. They have a very good merlot and Woodford Reserve is their go to bourbon. Short flight so small meal. I opted for the Cobb salad that got the job done. read more

When I checked in to AA, I saw they had two stars. My initial reaction was, it is what it is. My flight to Tampa was excellent, with no issues. My return flight, however, was delayed three times before being canceled. At this point, I was allowed to change my non-refundable, non-changeable flight. I was unable to get an agent on the phone but was able to change to another flight the following day online. I still say it is what it is. The return flight took off without incident, and arrived on time at my destination. The flight attendants were cordial and pleasant. I appreciated the small snack and liquid refreshment. More importantly, with the larger storage area above the seats, everyone who brought a bag onboard could store it. This is what allowed us to have an on-time flight. I enjoy flying American. read more

The airline is getting better from my past experience. The line getting shorter for check because it is automated. The pre-check in also help since the confirmation help that you are traveling in 24 hour. I have selected my seat long before at booking. It secure where I want to seat. The earlier boarding help customers to settle down in the cabin. It also help if everyone is already boarded and the take off can be earlier. I got my flight 30 early due to faster flight and fully boarded and ready to go. It is very efficient for my flight today. After boarding, when they have too many empty economic premium seat, they redistribution the seat and create many 2 person in 3 seat and flight more enjoyable. The drink and snack serve on the plane. They dim the light entire flight because we have the evening 7 to 9 pm flight. It make relaxing during the flight. read more

I have flown Southwest for 15+years, never have they lost my luggage. I flew American Airlines for the first time last fall with no problems so I thought I would try them again when I had to fly to Reno NV for a family emergency this week (4/15 - 4/20). I have been home for five hours and still don't have my luggage. The AA website says it was delayed and is enroute. I have personal items that are needed as stores are closed. American Airlines, you SUCK! When traveling with the same bag for a year as a carryon you stop us while boarding and tell us we can't board with our bag, that it's not a carryon. Then after making announcements that if you change your mind and want to check you bag at the gate, you can for free. But NOT for us. You charge us $30.00 and when we want to know why she threatens to send us back to the gate. Apparently you can check a "carryon " for free but not luggage which out bag was not luggage!!!!!!!! American airlines sucks. I have not flown since 2019 and I remember AA as a good airline. trying to get home from Tampa to SLC has been one screw up after another, endless delays, gate changes and missed flight due to airline incompetence. if, IF, we make our next flight we will be close to 24 hours late getting home. not looking good, already one gate change and one delay and it is only 8:30 am. Flew TPA to DCA, and back with AA. The flight was clean and quiet, both for the morning trip out, and afternoon flight home. Small delay due to weather, totally justifiable. The flight attendants were all courteous on both flights. Having to pay an additional charge to choose a seat to sit next to your spouse to make it appear that your pricing is competitive was irritating, so plan on spending an additional $34-182 per couple to sit next to each other based on location on the plane. The only issues we did have are the seats were very thin and worn out, uncomfortable in every sense of the word. We personally did not have carry-ons that needed to be stored in over head compartments, but both sold out flights made it very difficult for other patrons to find room for their belongings which made for a ton of confusion, so much so it took more than (30) mins getting off the plane in TPA on the flight home. Just a thought should anyone from AA read this, customers with only a personal item, and the ability to walk right off the plane without needing to wrangle around with over head compartments, and pushing luggage, should be prioritized and moved off first. That would drastically reduce the amount of people standing in the aisle causing congestion, to get off the plane quickly, and more room to drop items down and swiftly move off the aircraft for the remaining passengers. read more

I have been flying for 25 years and this was the worst experience I've ever had. The airline canceled a nonrefundable round trip ticket because I missed one leg of the flight on purpose to avoid 30 hours of travel time. They charged me $3,000 to rebook a flight that was originally $1,000. Not to mention the agents double booked me and double charged me through the rebooking process. I had to stay overnight in a hotel that I also had to pay for. On the return flight I had to be redirected on a different itinerary because of maintenance issues adding an extra 9 hours to an already 18 hour trip. I was only offered compensation if I chose to not take the flight. The staff at the customer service desk and on the phone were rude and unsympathetic. All of this because I over looked a policy on AA's website that took 6 hours of call time, including being hung up on 4 times, to locate. Not to mention the pillow and blanket I was provided in a sealed bag had hair in it. 10 out of 10 do NOT reccomend American Airlines. When flying internationally from the U.S. book direct flights from major cities with companies like Latam, Delta, or British Airways to save time, money, and peace of mind. read more

I am a platinum member of American Airlines. I had a family emergency and needed to go home one day early. I called to check availability and was told I would actually get a credit back up $126 and that there were about five seats available on the flight that I wanted to take on the day earlier. I took 10 minutes to call my manager to tell my needed to go home early. I called back and miraculously, the $126 credit turned into $176 charge. As I was saying my displeasure about the change all of a sudden and that yes I would still pay for it. I was then task into a survey and nothing was finalized. So then I had to call back again start all over when I got through again then I was told there was less availability and then not as many seats were available and the price was still above what was expected. Then I called back a third time and was told that there was no availability on the earlier flight. Then I called back up fourth time and got the same representative where I asked to speak with the supervisor. 20 minutes later I got the supervisor who basically said OK I can get you on the flight the day earlier but it's going to be $175 and not $126 credit that you expected. And my favorite, and there's nothing else I can do about it because that's our policy. This is ridiculous. Due to the incompetence of multiple poorly trained representatives before Hand And, who keep tossing me into automated surveys before finalizing the transaction of changing it and requiring me to start all over again , my availability was more sold out and the flight miraculously just increased a lot. And yet again all I get is there's nothing I can do about it even though it's the incompetence of this. So guess what I spend about $50,000 a year on my American Airlines credit card. I will be canceling it when I get home. I will not be using it anymore. And I will find a different airline to use. Perfect example of incompetence and stupidity over and over again. And the fact that this is hugely inconveniencing me due to an issue where I needed to go home early, but I could not impose on my company. It's just absolutely ridiculous. I will be posting this everywhere because everyone should be warned at the incompetence and the lack of knowledge and care that American Airlines has for their platinum customers read more
