He kept encouraging me and provided just the right instruction to help me get back out and up on the board probably a dozen times (at some point I lost track:) I participated in a Ladies surf and yoga Sunday. I had signed up with a few friends but they ended up having conflicts so I went alone. I had only had a surf lesson once before, years ago, in Puerto Rico. Honestly, I am insanely intimidated by the ocean. But I had made a commitment to myself to just show up and I'm so glad...I will be forever grateful for Dustin's instruction and the amazing "first" lesson in St. Augustine. I signed up my three children for lessons this past weekend; my children are 20, 18, & 13 (nearly…read more14). The care that was taken by the staff helped assure my children as they have never surfed before. They were taught safety & basic skills before even entering the water. Once in the water, they received corrections that helped two of my surfers to actually fully stand & ride for a bit. My 18 year old has a broken big toe, so finding balance was a bit harder for him. He was nearly up a few times. Following the session, they were taught to care for the equipment properly. We booked a second session immediately after the kids changed into their dry clothes. My daughter ended up being the only one of my crew to take the second lesson due to my oldest having sun poisoning (we left surf lessons and spent the remaining daylight on the beach). However, my daughter learned even more the second day. While they learned a lot in the 60 min session, I highly recommend 90 minutes for the first lesson. The value for the time was great! I'm sure classes are wonderful, but having a 1:3 or 1:1 ratio was so much better for my kids. The kids enjoyed it so much they want to come back again. Amazing customer service in the shop as well. All around, amazing staff.

Surfing as a girl can often be intimidating, so having a space where you are seen and valued instead of judged is amazing. My daughter loves it and always has a great time with her friends. I especially love how protective the owner is of her group! Any surfers and bodyboarders who get too close and could potentially hurt the girls by crashing into them are politely told to make space and stay a bit farther away. I love that she isn't timid, as so many women are taught to be. She fights for and gives a voice to her group. This camp isn't a private, elite lesson for advanced surfers. It's a place where girls can have fun and surf together. It's a place where confidence is nurtured and protected. It's a place where I know my child is in the best hands possible, so I don't worry. Surf into Summer Camp is a great program which is why it is North Florida's elite and longest running camp. The 3 to 1 student to instructor ratio provides students with important individual attention. The program is very effective IMO and emphasizes ocean awareness, surfing techniques, surf etiquette, and proper equipment and wave selection. The camp instructors are truly top notch and it's very cool to see kids catching their first wave and taking their surfing to the next level!

As of today, I have given them a MONTH to reply. I even followed up with two additional emails, a voicemail message and a Facebook message and nothing except a Facebook response saying the best form of communication is email. I am ok with no refund, but at the least there should have been a response with an offer of resolution (surf camp the following summer, money towards private lessons, etc.). Any reputable business has a Covid policy at this point. Very disappointing. Too many surf camps to choose from in this area to accept this sort of poor customer service. I'll wrap this up as my donation to their local business and give my repeat business and recommendation elsewhere.

So, when my friend came to visit us we figured what better than surfing lessons? My husband met Ryan Ragan of Vast Oceans when Ryan was teaching another class. Ryan was patient, thorough and prepared. Our experience was that Ryan was not only prepared for our children with right size boards, but had a tent up for the parents to relax in the shade on a very hot day. (Chair not included. So bring one!). Ryan went over board safety, how to fall properly so as to not get hurt, when to exit the board so as to not get hurt, proper board care, style and grace, how to get out into the surf, the steps of getting up on the board. He helps the kids get confidence and comfort. He does not push them to go beyond comfort zone but continuously reminds them what steps they will be doing. He is patient and kind. Definitely wants kids to have the joy of surfing and solid instruction. What to bring: long sleeved sun shirt (aka rash guard) sunscreen for legs and all other exposed areas, towel, chair (if you want to sit) your cell phone or camera for some great photo opportunity's if you are watching. Bring a snack and drink. You will have a break and it's a great time to get hydrated and apply sunscreen on legs again. Don't forget to tip!

I was hoping I could get in that afternoon because I was going to be busy with work the rest of the week. Ryan got back with me before I landed and was happy to say he'd fit me in a couple hours after I landed. He said he's been at it all day, but wanted to fit me in (we ended up going to 6.30 or so). I had read around at some lesson reviews in the area, and I saw numerous ones that gave me the idea that I probably wouldn't even be standing up on the board that day -- but hey, I was gonna get in what I could. To my amazement, Ryan had me up on a board and riding within the hour. I was ecstatic since I wasn't even expecting to get up on the board at all. At the end of the set, he was sure to push me to get a good one in so I could end it on a smile instead of a fall. Killer lesson, had a blast and I'm hooked now. Really wish I could've made it back for more that week. Anyway -- super personable and nice guy. Thanks Ryan! I'll definitely swing in again the next time I'm through there.

Not a lot of protective gear or skating related gear was readily available but I didn't ask and the store is very large. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. I have to comment on the the "dog" review where the guy wraps himself in the flag. My first question is how would a guy in San Diego have any first hand knowledge? For all we know he is a shrill for a competing business.
