I felt comfortable and engrossed in conversation with the staff and other patrons in a way that had me coming back the next night for dinner again. All too often, the sports-pub vibe will let you down, but this place takes each item on its menu seriously and cares considerably about what they're plating in front of you. It makes me feel like something special is happening in that kitchen like the show "The Bear." If the bartenders ask you if you want the potato salad as your side because it's made in house, then trust him. He's telling you this for a reason because you're about to embark on a culinary experience of a lifetime. What I assume is typically a college bar, this place is quite a wonderful little find. Mind you, I happened to come through on two evenings during the summer holidays so maybe the vibe is different in October but I can't recommend it more based on my experience.

I came in for lunch today with 2 teenagers. We ordered a large cheese pizza. Not one of us ate a 2nd piece. The cheese and sauce were both pretty flavorless but the crust was really weird; like eating a double layer of cardboard. The bottom of the crust was pretty well-cooked, almost burnt, so maybe that's why. It was tough and flavorless. Not at all like any other brick- fired pizza I've had. Would not recommend.

The food, as it should be is the star of the show. I ordered the Duck, which was the best duck I've had at a restaurant in a very long time. Some places can over cook it in an attempt to get that crispy skin, but here it was cooked to perfection. The skin was crispy, meat flavorful and juicy, and not overly greasy. The sweet potato puree was excellent and elevated the meal. The drinks menu was really good. Our friends are Wine Connessiuers and we're impressed with the selection. Not a Connessiuer myself, though I do enjoy a nice red every now and then, our selection was really good. Circa 1918 is a bit of a trip for us, but I'm sure we will be back and I'd recommend this place to anyone in the Newport News area.

This has been high on my "want to try" for a long time and finally saw an opportunity with an available reservation, went for it and am so happy I did. I dined solo, which I rarely do, but this was the perfect place for it. It was apparent that most people dining were regulars. The owner was chatting with just about everyone and diners were popping over to other tables to say hello, as well. Felt like a very small town. Service was perfect - not overbearing, but perfectly timed for a good flow throughout dinner. Their menu changes often, so some of the items I loved, may not be available - but it does seem like their fried oysters are a mainstay and holy moly, they were delicious. I had one cocktail - I believe it was called Watermelon Sugar. It had vodka, aperol and fresh watermelon. Refreshing and smooth. I tried two apps: the fried oysters and the bao buns. Both were fantastic. Perfectly prepared, so much flavor. I think that next time, I would stick to the appetizer section and try many rather than getting an entree. I got the scallops, which were delicious, but the apps wow-ed me more. Prices aren't low, but you get what you pay for - really high quality dishes with lots of thought and execution embedded. I don't say this lightly - this has been added to my top 10 list in all of Hampton Roads!

They're located right next to one of our favorite spots Amirtha Curry. They're only open past 5pm. Let's see how things went When we walked inside, one of the staff asked if we had a reservation. Turns out the place is small with probably 11-12 tables in total. But luckily, a table was available and we were able to be seated. The decor inside was spotless and a bar is in the middle. The next time we dine in, I'll be sire to take photos when I get the chance. After looking over the menu for a few minutes, we decided to order a Denbigh pizza, one of their red sauce items. The toppings were pepperoni, sausage and mushrooms. Since they were out of sausage, we chose ham as the substitute. Very good stuff. The pizza was cooked perfectly and there were plenty of toppings before our very eyes. We ended up taking half of the pie home where it was still delicious when warmed up. There you have it. We have both found a hidden gem in our neck of the woods. Yoi know we'll be back soon :)

Even after waiting in line, customers are only allowed one drink at a time and then must get back in line again. Meanwhile, there was only one person working the bar, creating long waits for everyone. The food situation was even worse. I waited approximately an hour and a half for food after already standing in line to place my order. Customers are given a ticket that must be turned in to receive their food, but if the ticket is misplaced by staff or lost, you're essentially out of luck. There has to be a better system than that in 2026. The customer service was terrible. The kitchen staff was rude, and overall the employees treated paying customers as if they were inconveniencing them rather than supporting the business. It felt like basic courtesy and professionalism were completely absent. I also found it ridiculous that people were standing in long lines waiting for food inside what is supposed to be a nightlife venue. On top of that, the place is cash only, which feels outdated and unnecessary in 2026. The only reason this place seems to stay popular is because people like the atmosphere enough to tolerate the poor service and inefficient policies. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy myself at all.
