Went here today for see project Hail Mary for the matinee and had a pretty good experience. A little outdated compared to other movie theaters and the matinee was more expensive than other cinemas around. The popcorn and snacks were great but bummed they don't give refills on small popcorn sizes. I went to this theater, paid $20 in gas for a show to find out they decided to not show it in the theater and the "high up executives decided to run Mario brothers for profit over running the advertised movie I drove to watch." They didn't offer to buy another movie was absolutely the worst customer service I ever had from a manager and I will be going to celebration and never returning after an experience that was not customer driven nor any reason. I watched the beetlejuice move here with my kid and we both loved ti. The location was nice, not far from my home. Parking was never an issue here. Eveyrone wa super nice. They had all the candy and popcorn/drinks we wanted. I feel the place was well cooled, not too hot. I liked the seats I had. Reserving the tickets online was no problem. Disappointing experience! This place has endless issues. Where do I begin? $10 convenience fee to buy my tickets online. Really? Shouldn't they be encouraging online sales? Less ticket agents to pay and a way to expedite things? Only one soda machine was working and the area was trashed. Lids and trash everywhere. Sticky floor. It was gross. The theatre didn't seem clean. There was popcorn on my seat. Last straw was the bathrooms. There were a couple counters of sinks. Only one set was working. Is this a cost saving measure to turn off half? I'll never set foot in this place again. It was dirty and needs attention. There are better movie experiences in Grand Rapids. If I were to base my rating on seat comfort, this would easily be a 4 or 5 star review. Fact-the seats are amazingly comfortable. My issue with this theater centers on two factors-cleanliness and management. Actually, just one issue because if there was any semblance of management here, cleanliness wouldn't be an issue. We "switched" from our usual movie place 4 movies ago based on the great seats. The last couple of times we saw spilled food throughout the lobby and theater area, filthy areas where you dispense your drinks and get butter for your popcorn along with possibly the worse restrooms (male and female) I've ever seen at a theater. You could not even put you towel in the trash because it was so overflowing. It would just fall to the floor. I cannot (or will not) see a movie without popcorn and given my perception of unclean conditions, it's time to switch back to our original theater which I have never seen anything but flawlessly clean. All the employees we came in contact with are friendly but it is clear they have been given no direction. It's unfortunate the management hasn't been given any either. read more

I visited AMC Grand Rapids 18 last week on a Thursday evening to watch the North American premiere of Thor: Ragnarok. I was away from home and really wanted to see this movie the first night! I got on the Fandango app and bought a digital ticket - assigned seating in a theater with the big, red leather recliners. I managed to get an end seat in the back row - perfect! I love the location and the seats. This last time that I was there my husband and I noticed that it was much cleaner than before. We were impressed with that. The reason for the low score is because this is the third time this year where we were extremely hot. Each time I said something and they said something about how that one theater's HVAC system isn't working and someone was called. We were in different theaters each time. I'm generally not a sweaty person but the back of my shirt was damp from sweat by the end of the movie. It was so stuffy and not fun. The movie was good so we didn't want to leave, so we bared through it. We were told that if we leave the movie before the end we could get a voucher but we stayed. For the price of movies we are going to go to other theaters from now on. read more

I don't normally go to AMC because i live closer to other theaters, but we've gone here a couple of times lately and have had similar experiences each time. They have priority lines for members, which is fine, but not enough people working to accomodate the other customers so people stand in line forever while members get to cut in line basically for tickets and concessions. I've also been using a mobile app for tickets and there has not been a person working at the designsted kiosk to scan your barcode either times. With that said, the theater experience is very nice. Each theater has big, comfy seats that recline, and plenty of room for people to pass by. read more

This is the ONLY movie theater I will go to! It's perfect! Their seats are incredibly comfortable, spacious and relaxing.... and their food service is great, they're not annoyed when you want to butter/salt your popcorn halfway through them filling the bucket. I love reserved seating because I don't have to worry about getting there early or having someone save seats while the rest of us grab a box of Raisinettes. Highly recommend AMC Perks too....you get to cut the line for the best popcorn ever (ask for a tray so you can share popcorn easily and get the buttery salty goodness on every kernel!), and reserve your seats for free online. read more

The movie was good and the seats are nice. However, after paying $21.48 for myself and a sweet 8 year old to see Malifacent, plus another $22.12 for a large popcorn and 2 drinks, I was told we COULD NOT get refills because I wasn't a rewards member. The manager told me the only way we could have refills was to give them my email address. That would make me a "Rewards Member". $43.60 and they wouldn't give a refill on popcorn without me giving up my email. CELEBRATION CINEMA AT RIVERTOWN MAY NOT HAVE CHAIRS AS BIG. You really do feel certain parts of the movie in your chest. - The staff is super accommodating. First of all I have to say that I grew up going to the Star Theatre and loved the little candies you could get. I am a loyal Celebration Cinema moviegoer because it's a bit closer to my house and more easily accessible than this AMC location. However, I got a good deal on Beauty and the Beast tickets and they were only good at AMC so we went for the first time last week. The first thing I noticed upon entering were the long, slow-moving lines for both tickets and concessions. The lobby area is small and super congested. I stood in line for over 5 minutes waiting and I was annoyed that "members" got to jump the line and cut in front of everyone else waiting. Then we had to wait in another long, slow line for popcorn. There are only two pop machines which meant more waiting. Popcorn and drinks at AMC are much more expensive than the combos at Celebration. The popcorn was really good, though. I also noticed that the staff working don't seem to have the same level of customer service training that the people at Celebration get. We finally got into the theatre and I was happy to see the seats are arranged in pairs, so you don't have to be sitting directly next to someone else (almost like you're on your own little couch). I know people love the recliners, I don't like them as much because I tend to fall asleep in them! But it's definitely comfortable. Overall I didn't mind this theatre too much but I definitely prefer Celebration. read more

Not my favorite theatre in town. I find this theatre to be a bit grungy and just all over dingy. The floors are always sticky and more than once we have had to find staff to come clean up the seats we were to sit in. I was hoping that AMC would spend a little money on maintenance when they took it over from Star, but I guess that is asking too much. read more

My favorite part of this theater is the newly upgraded seats. All of them recline and make you feel as though you are home watching a movie in a lazy boy! My biggest fear is that I am actually going to fall asleep while watching the movie, but it hasn't happened yet - fingers crossed. I always have great service while I am here, never too long of lines, temperature is perfect in the theaters, bathrooms are clean. I would say the only reason why I don't come here as often is because it is just kind of a pain to get to. If I lived closer and frequented driving on Alpine (which I hate) I would probably attend this theater more often. I hate for that to be why, since they have done nothing wrong customer service wise, but I speak my truth. Keep up the great work! You guys do a wonderful job! read more

We were there for a matinee of "The secret life of pets." First, I LOVE that EVERY chair in the theater was a recliner. It looks like they did some upgrades when they out the recliners in....that's nice. We purchased tickets online before heading up there- convenient! Our ticket taker even thanked us for doing so- because it made her job SO MUCH easier. What was super frustrating, though, is that when you purchase tickets online, there is a $7.50 convenience fee added to your order total. Seriously? ??? I'm making your employees jobs easier and you charge me $7.50?!?!?! We ordered a #2 combo - 2 large drinks and a large popcorn for $19.99. My mom got 2 candies for $6. There were refills on the pop and popcorn. The pop machines were completely automated, so we had the choice of so many flavors. Total experience was good- just tainted by convenience fee. From now on, I'll save my money and make your employees work a little harder for theirs. read more

I went there last night. I had to pay $10 convenience fee to get my tickets online. When we got there, people were being extremely rude. When we went to go get our popcorn and soda our popcorn was burnt like they had been scraping it off the bottom. I watch them struggle to get off the bottom and when I asked for a new batch, they said it wasn't worth it. This is my new favorite way to watch movies. I loved this theater for its amazing reclining seats, non-crowded rows and perfectly unobstructed view of the screen (my kid REALLY appreciated this) The theater is smaller but it was clean on our visit and the staff super friendly even during this crazy, hectic time of year. I purchased our tickets online (because choosing our seats before hand will always be worth the service fee to me) BUT for some reason our service fee was waved. I don't know if it was because I had a gift card, or because the movie we saw had been out for a while, but avoiding the sf can be done (if you know the secret let me know) The first show of the day is on'y $5 and change per person so all 4 of us saw Fantastic Beasts for just a little over $20. Concession are still crazy expensive but they accommodate you so well. They gave us boxes to split our $20 vat-O-popcorn with the kids AND when you sign up to be a "Stubbs Hub Member" (its free) you get free refills. This theater is one that I have gone to since I was a kid. They've had a LOT of updates over the last few years, and they have had the new recliner chairs put in (SO comfortable!). The building itself is older, however, I feel like they've done a lot to try and keep it up to date design wise. The customer service at this theater is also great! On one occasion, I purchased a ticket in a seat that didn't work (it wouldn't recline). A theater attendant came in and tried to fix it, and when he couldn't, he refunded my ticket AND gave me 4 free movie passes to use in the future. They definitely made it right, and this will always be one of my favorite theaters to go to. read more

The concessions take forever, which is surprising because they are so crazy overpriced you would think they'd want to seek as much as possible with profit margins like that, the employees really don't care.. about you, or the theatre, or life in general it seems, and the decor is dated and feels dirty. This was my first visit to AMC since they upgraded to the reclining seats. Met a group of girls for a movie at 630 on a Tuesday night. Right off the bat we noticed there were two lines at the counter for tickets.. one for regular guests and a separate line for premium (or something) guests.. we assumed we were regular since we had no clue what the premium was. It became apparent that the regular guests were supposed to be second to premium when not one of the ticket counter attendants paid attention to us or waved us forward to buy tickets. We literally waited for the entire line of premium tickets purchasers to be helped first. I found this to be ridiculous. Once at the counter, you choose your seats on the screen.. for a group of 6 girls, this was quite a debacle. If you are going with more than 2 people, this is not a very convenient program- theater is smaller, and if you let groups of 2 choose their seats all spread out.. there are a lot of single seats open, but not a lot of groupings. Concessions had lots of interesting options, more than i remember. Pop is all self serve on the back half of the stand.. the floor was disgustingly sticky. Like, my sandals were practically glued to the floor. Popcorn was good but outrageously expensive. The only reason I am giving this place a 3 star is because the seats were pretty damn comfy. I used to hate movie theater seating.. but this changes the ballgame. I cant comment on how clean the theater was, since it was already dark when we came in... probably for the best! lol read more

Overall, it's a movie theater. It's a little more expensive than other places in town, and it's a lot more rundown, and sort of dirty. This is actually my second time here, and there's always pop spilled everywhere, the concessions are out of certain types of pop, and there's popcorn everywhere. I know it's hard to keep the place clean, but midday in the middle of the week is no excuse for this level of cluttered mess. The people are friendly, and that's about the best thing I can say about this place, in the movies are well lit and have good sound. You'd be better off going to one of the other theaters in town if you want a clean, very friendly experience, but this isn't horrible. read more

So headed to AMC yesterday to enjoy a little family time with my nieces and nephew. I haven't been to this theater in a very long time. They have definitely had a major upgrade since I last visited. To start off I had ordered tickets ahead of time online which I would highly recommend because the line was crazy long with only two people selling tickets. So slow moving there. Next up, concessions. Again slow moving. And this is definitely where the moneys made for AMC. The prices were quite expensive for popcorn and a drink. But the popcorn was very fresh and hit the spot at I was enjoying my movie experience. When we walked into the theatre itself i was impressed. It was clean and the recliners were large and very comfortable. These are great for all ages. The rows are wide so when my two year old niece needed to "stretch" her legs, she wasn't a bother to anyone. I would recommend going here for a quiet relaxing moment, just give yourself time to get settled with tickets and concessions. read more

This place is an absolute disaster: very dirty and unorganized. First, I hate the fact that the self check in booth kept throwing away our tickets everywhere and we literally had to pick them up all over! Why don't they fix this issue?! This is a first disappointment. Secondly, there were popcorn and some trashes all over the floor . I get it, it's the movie theatre but at least, have someone or a couple of people be on the cleaning duties! They had quite a few of ppl behind the food counter just standing and talking. Perhaps, the manager isn't doing their job either. Thirdly, the movie theatre was so dirty. The seats we chose were full of oil and food crumbs. Do they not clean these up? I always carry wet wipes with me and this time, I had left them in the car. *facepalm I went up to the food counter and asked if I could have some wipes and it nearly took me 20 mins to get someone to help and finally, a girl said she will come and clean it. I had asked her to just spray the tissue so I can clean it. However, she insisted! That's why I had chosen to give 3 stars. She cleaned our seats pretty well and thanks to her, we were able to sit there with oil and dirt free throughout the movie. There are a lot of changes needed to be done at this place! I don't hate it but I'd definitely recommend management to work in their managing and learn what areas are needed to be done. Very disappointed in the recent trip my fiancé as I had to this AMC. They had a power outage in the morning, and we were understanding to the fact our movie was running 5-15 minutes late (more like 25-30) and that they had to run our gift card multiple times to get it to work. However, we continued to run into issues throughout the movie. We had originally ordered a popcorn, drink, and pretzel bites, however we did not know what time the movie would now start, as it was not posted. So after they tried our gift card for the third time, and we're told it would be 5-10 minutes for the pretzel bites, I said we could just get the popcorn and drink. When we went into the theater, I went to the app to try to order the pretzel bites to our seat. Because the movie was late, even though the movie hadn't started yet, it would not let me order past the official movie start time. So I went back out and asked if the pretzel bites could be brought to me in the theater, I was told no they would only bring it to me if I ordered through the app, I tried to explain the app situation and was still told no. I pointed out the 6 staff members behind the counter talking, and because the movie was late and we didn't know the start time, it would be nice not to miss the movie, still told no. Fine, I waited and missed the first 5 minutes. When I got back into the theater, my fiancé pointed out the lights were still on. I had already missed the first 5 minutes, and I worked at a movie theater before, someone should be in to check the movie soon, but no one did. The lights stayed on the entire film. We could see everyone, people moving around the aisles, people on their phones, teenagers running up and down the stairs every 2 minutes... At this point I did get petty, and wanted to see how long it would take for a staff member to come in and check, but it never happened. The lights were on, dimmed, the entire film. The film was not advertised as a special showing, we don't know why no one else said anything. Don't worry though, the lights finally turned off... as the credits started, so we got to walk out in the dark. Very disappointed and won't be returning for a long time. read more
