The Boston Common AMC staff tend to view and treat customers in the ticket queue as prey rather than people. Rather than eating us, they enjoy declining valid coupons, deals, and essentially doing the opposite of any decent customer service operation. Thankfully, AMC Assembly Row provides top-notch customer service with smiles, contentment, and human decency. The big and cozy, lazy-boy -esque armchairs are the cherry on top. My sole complaint regarding this branch is minor; the food maintains the stereotype of overpriced, average quality, theater fare. Worst movie-going experience Ever! July 25,2022 I entered through the garage and filthy elevator. Upon arrival in the theater you are unable to wash your hands anywhere. There was NO SOAP in the dispensers in the bathroom, all sensors on faucets broken so no water, six toilets broken in one bathroom, filled with feces, urine, blood, etc. Floors littered with toilet paper, walls, doors filthy rotten dirty. All sanitizer dispensers are always empty. (the manager says "BY LAW" they aren't required to fill them??? HUH! The theater smells like urine, the hand rails are so gross and sticky you cant hold on going up to your broken/smelly seats if you plan on eating your $10.00 popcorn with your hands. Signs on all the concession machines announcing /No CO2 /so no drinks! AND to top it all off folks when I paid for my $9.41 popcorn with a twenty dollar bill I got 10 bucks back with a thank you./No Receipt/No Change/ When I inquired about no change with the manager I was told they Automatically "Round Up" the sale when you pay with cash because they have no change. Well in my opinion this is illegal business practice. The customer should be advised verbally or with a sign stating this is the Theater policy. They had Five signs up indicating no CO2 But NO SIGN announcing NO CHANGE! This theater is bringing down the look of Assembly Square and is in dire need of NEW MANAGEMENT. Disturbing behavior from management. Went to the 425 showing of Second Act. 10 min in 3 guys come in and remove a mother with a small child. I went out and talked to her. They said someone complained he was talking! Really!! Kids talk. They have no problem marketing to children, then if they make a peep they remove them! The mother left calmly and they gave them a free ticket to another movie. Either your kid friendly or not. From what I saw today. This theatre is Def. Not!! The kid wasn't very loud. Tell the public your policy before you sell kids tickets. Really upset me. I prob won't go back again! read more

This theater is new and huge! It has new seats as AMC 10 Braintree. However, I noticed that only those seats in the front can lean back, those seats in the back can't but still very comfy. It even has a bar inside. It is surrounded by many outlet stores, I remember that it next to Outback Steakhouse. Parking is free and plenty of space. read more

This is one of my favorite theaters and it's pretty close to where I live. I tend to go to the movies primarily with my boyfriend, and one of the aspects that I love about this place is the double seats off the sides of the rides. Makes for a more intimate space when you are on a date or with your S.O. As other posters have written, it's very important to reserve your seat way in advance. This theater is popular so if you don't want crappy seats, I wouldn't recommend buying tickets at the theater, order online! Good food options, though no fried dough, (that's why Showcase has my heart). I've never been to the bar but I've never seen it packed so I think it would be good for a quick drink before the movies. A parking garage that's literally right next door is another plus. The location is also great since it's in a shopping area, so you can shop or go to one of the many restaurants before or after your movie. Overall A- in my book! read more

In this day & age of YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, etc. the treat of going to the movies has definately lost a bit of it luster. Most modern day movie houses just seem these sterile & overpriced institiutions to a past era. But there are still some films that come out that beg to be seen on a big screen. AMC has done a great job making the experience less of a chore & enjoyable again. From the clean facility, friendly staff, automated ticketing & assigned seating, all make this location an almost frustration free experience. Just the feature of assigned seating alone takes so much of the anxiety out of going into a dark theatre & trying to hunt for a spot or asking strangers if they are willing to scoot over. Plus the seats are large, plush & some even recline. Our favorites ones happen to be the "love seats" that are located up on the sides which have arm rests that can lift out of the way. The only complaint I have about this location is their use of one person taking tickets. The lines can get a little long especially when there are a few blockbusters about to begin at the same time. The concessions also could offer some more healthy alternatives in addition to the butter grease & sugary soda. Even with all these cons this is still my goto movie theatre in the metro Boston area. Mice. Multiple Mice. This use to be my go to theater but not anymore. Went to see a 9:50pm movie and there was only one other couple in the room. This could be the reason the mice felt brave enough to show up. At first we thought the lights in the aisles where flickering but then quickly realized it was because a fat mouse kept running by! We saw 3 of them running around at once. This means there are probably plenty more. It was the first cold night of season and with the construction nearby I can see how this happen. But all the popcorn and bags of candy for the mice to binge on it's disgusting to think about going back. The staff was super nice when we arrived but no one was around during mid movie to tell about Mickey & the gang. I think this is because we saw such a late viewing. I could never go back and comfortably watch a movie without thinking a mouse is hanging out too. read more

This is really one of the only two theaters I will go to anymore. The other ones being the AMC Loews near Park St. in downtown Boston. Prices aren't bad for the actual movie and the seats are very comfortable and big. If you're lucky enough to get the ones to the sides of the theater, they will fully recline. The first 3 rows up front fully recline but you're right in front of the screen. The theaters are always clean when I go and it's a pretty painless process to buy tickets, select your own seat and go in and watch the movie. They have free parking for the theater too which is helpful. read more

The physical aspects of this theater are great! BUT....I have had the least positive experiences of any movie theater ever while here. Exp #1 as a member of their paid Stubbs premium program I get reward points and try to redeem them when I get my overpriced concession food. What should be a simple transaction and a thank you for racking up enough movie spending to get $10 worth turns into a 30 minute wait because every manager keeps deflecting responsibility to the next. SO as a thank you for my loyalty they give me a coupon for a free small popcorn that expires in a week. That's one level above a free napkin in my opinion. Exp #2 I try to redeem the $10 again to find out they will let me use $5 since the other $5 expired last week.... OHHH wait that was because they wouldn't let me redeem it the first time. So the same manager from the first time (short hairy guy) try's yet again to deflect responsibility to someone else... Seems simple to me either give me the extra $5, give me a coupon equivalent to it or just reject me. After waiting for 5+ minutes and holding up the line I leave and he just stands there while the other employees are just as frustrated as me. Also, the bathrooms are always honorably disgusting. As in city McDonald's bad! With that said I have also had interactions with some really nice people there but the management takes a prize for some of the worst experiences I've ever had at a movie theater. read more

Very disappointed with this AMC. We had tickets for a 10:15pm show. Turns out that despite the theater still selling tickets to late shows, their stuff do not have to work as they close down all food and drink services. We could only purchase basically candy at that point. That part I could get over. We walk into theater room 10 and the entire theater smelled like urine!! I tried moving seats to see if it was just that area, but no. The whole freaking room. Trying to watch a movie while breathing through your mouth has got to be one of the most uncomfortable situations ever. The seats were dirty and trash was everywhere. The dirtiest and most run-down theater I've been to... and this theater hasn't even been open that long! The theater we sat in had torn leather seats, sticky floors, and trash everywhere. The bathroom was by far the worst experience ever. The women's room was flooding and the toilets weren't flushing. No attendants anywhere to assist. This was the first and last time I'll be seeing a movie here. Definitely was not part of the movie experience I was hoping for. GROSS. read more

The movie theater was fairly clean but not immaculate. We saw the move in IMAX theater 1. The chairs are divided best for single movie goers, but can cut people off if there are pairs or more. Comfortable seats and a great viewing experience! They show conventional movies, with the occasional independent or foreign film thrown in. There are many dining options near by and since it's located in a mall complex, plenty to do before or after your movie! They don't always do a great job of checking tickets so there may be people in your seats or people in the theater creating a ruckus. Regardless, I would recommend and I visit regularly, especially given that AMC A-list is such a great deal! read more

This location is much nicer than other AMCs' I've visited. Spacious leather seating, free parking, and a semi-open concession stand concept are some of the perks. The soda/drink area is great too. You can customize your drinks! I was also pleased that I could order an alcoholic beverage from the bar and sip on it during my movie. My recommendations... Frequent AMC Goer, Enroll in the AMC Stub Rewards. It's $12 but the online fees are waived and you get popcorn/drink upgrades.(For this reason I prefer the Showcase Cinemas rewards program, it's free to join with similar perks, and they having reclining seats!) And Also, Order Tickets online/mobile app ahead of time. It allows you to reserve your seats so you don't have to frantically rush. And FYI, you can order food along with your online movie ticket purchase. Just set the time for pick up and name of the person who will pick up. They make it so convenient! read more

Good amount of seating, sometimes wish there were sections available for non-reserved seating so that friends could arrive without having to choose before having any idea what the theater looks like. The seating charts could offer more information about reclining or paired seating. The concessions are great, expensive as usual, but self-serve and a lot of variety. Having more healthy options would be appreciated. Good theaters and really comfortable seats. The ones in front recline, and pairs are able to remove the armrest between them for cuddling. AMC Assembly Row also follows current protocol to fit fewer seats in a theater, favoring spaced out, cushioned and reclinable accommodations, perfect for hoarding overpriced candy, buckets of soda and avoiding your loved ones' need to cuddle. Seriously, there's no whispering side comments about a cute scene, or awkward hand holding over an ill-placed armrest. You're a solid foot and a half away from your neighbors, which makes the cinephile happy while the lovers brood in their forced separation. There are more indistinguishable pros and cons: the lower-than-the-Common ticket price, assigned seating and ample free parking in the somewhat maligned garage next door will ease the typically cumbersome endeavor suburbanites face when wanting to catch a blockbuster. They also attract families. Big families, and for some reason, big, inconsiderate families who allow their infants the ability to play Angry Birds on an iPad at full volume while a movie is being screened. Remember those seats you picked? Now you're stuck there. I've come to face a reality that the creature comforts of a new, chain-funded cinemaplex come with caveats. Will I go to AMC for a non-Michael Bay/Christopher Nolan piece of eye candy that must be seen in triple hi-def, IMAX CineScape Technicolor Audiotron 7000 to get the full experience? No. There's no character, and I can drink a beer at Somerville Theatre, Capitol Theatre, or any other indo that goes old school on 're' vs 'er' debate. I hate to give this place such a bad rating, but my latest experience here prompted me to write about it. I love amc. It's beautiful and super convenient. Clean, great food etc. This amc is my go to movie theater because of how nice it is, but unfortunately I will rethink my decision of coming here next time. I brought a couple kids with me to watch jurassic world opening night. I came Thursday night to purchase my tickets ahead of time so that we could all sit together and have the tickets on time (me and 3 KIDS). When you purchase tickets you pick the exact seats you want. So Friday night comes and me and my kids look for our seats and an adult couple have taken 2 of our seats. We tell the security because those are OUR seats. We picked them and bought them for a reason. The security man is afraid to move the couple to the seats they are assigned to but instead, would rather separate an adult from 2 kids. That is so ridiculous and I was so furious. In the end we were separated and didn't sit together. I am absolutely disappointed by the morals the theater has demonstrated. How would any worker separate children from an adult? And btw, they are all age 10 and under. I love this place but I don't think I will come back because of their immoral actions. read more

I think they're still working out the kinks. I was kind of taken aback by the prices, $36 for two. I reminded myself that I was seeing a 3D IMAX movie and sitting on massive, comfortable leather recliners with 2 (2!!!) dedicated cupholders per person. Technically, the movie, seating and watching experience was flawless, but there are lots of other problems which detract. I'm not sure what they were thinking about with the layout of this place. You come into what is essentially a closet sized space in order to by your tickets, then you take an escalator up what seems like 50 floors, and it dumps you out into a cafeteria like setting where you can go around and collect your snacks and then pay later. I decided to get some food, which was a big mistake. I got chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks, and I regret it. Both products were undercooked, frozen in the middle actually, and the very young (probably) very underpaid people behind the counter weren't really interested in hearing about it. The whole cafeteria area is actually a scene of chaos. You line up at the hot food counter, and although there's an order taker and a register, you have to take a special ticket across the room and pay someone else, while you're carrying all of your food and snacks. You're milling around inside with people who may or may not be buying any food, since this seems to be the general area of waiting. On top of that, there's nowhere to sit, lean, talk with friends or eat your snacks, unless you go right into your theater, which wasn't possible for us since we were early. In all, it was an expensive, frustrating and confusing experience, but man those seats were nice. Update: I forgot to mention, there's ample parking, but that's something that I expect at a suburban movie theater. read more

Absolutely Miserable. I came here this past Sunday (7/27) hoping to see the 8pm showing of Lucy. The line was from the first double door, to the second double door. There were about 25 people in line. There were TWO people working the ticket line. TWO. I tried to buy tickets on the Kiosk. It said something to the tune of "can not be purchased- please see kiosk". Its still well before showtime, and the movie is still displayed on the digital monitors, so I'm confused as to why I can't buy it on the kiosk. I'm now trying to figure out if that means the show is sold out. There are theaters that will say "This showing is currently sold out"- this appeared to be more of an error message. I ask a male employee jogging- literally jogging- through the lobby and his response is "I dont know". I didn't want to wait in line for 20 minutes for a sold out show- but there were no other employees. The digital boards still do not say if it is sold out. I get to the top of the line- and yes, it is sold out. Horrible. This is a direct reflection on the management at this location. It's unfair to the employees who become stressed out. I went to this AMC theater last night to see X-Men: Days of Future Past. Wow this is definitely the nicest theater in the Boston area hands down! I will only go here from now on to see a movie. Its makes the Boston Common location look like a POS. If you want a nice, brand new, awesome, clean theater to see a movie...go here. Period. I went on a Wednesday night around 9pm so the area around the theater wasn't packed at all. But I could envision it getting packed on the weekend with all the new shops going in the Assembly Row area. ...but I like to go on weekday nights to avoid the crowds anyways. There is free parking and plenty of it. A huge plus. The movie was at 9:15. I rolled in to the parking lot at 9:05. I was in my seat by 9:10. Quick kid. When you walk in the entrance of the theater, the set up is similar to AMC Boston Common. You get your tickets downstairs then go upstairs to the theaters. You get to pick your seat when you purchase your tickets. So clutch! No more looking for seats in a packed theater which always blows. I highly recommend going online to purchase your tickets BEFORE you get to the theater. That way you can pick your seats, roll up to a kiosk, swipe your card and print your tickets quick and be done. I didn't get refreshments so I can't comment on that, but the place is brand new so I'm sure its fine. That stuff is overpriced anyways. I always just sneak my own stuff in from CVS or something to save cash. The movie I went to was in theater 6 at the end of the hall. I really appreciated the big numbers marking each individual theater! They are as big as a full person and clearly marked so I definitely could find the right theater marked on my ticket...way to go design team. I also hit the bathroom before I went in. Very clean and brand new. Way larger then the small ones at Boston Common. Again a huge plus. Once you get inside your movie theater, everything is clean and brand new. The seats are huge! Like Cadillac front seat big. The side and front seats recline all the way. If you are on a date with your girl, Get the side seats! They are semi private, arranged in just 2 seats to a row close together, so there will be no annoying freakshows sitting next to you. Sweet! The middle seats are awesome good too and lean back, great view of the screen. The seats in the first 3 rows recline fully too,but you are really close to the screen, no one likes that...so skip these ones. The arm rests are really large, You don't have to worry that you won't have a place to put your arm or bump into someone else's arm. Huge cup holder too to hold your 100oz drink. Big gulps kid. I didn't see the 3D because I don't like 3D so I can't comment on that...but the sound and picture quality of the movie was perfect. No complaints at all. Bottom line, it was a great movie going experience. I will definitely be back. As I said before, if want to see a movie in a great theater....go here. Period. read more

Comfy seats that recline ALL THE WAY. A bar named MacGuffin's (how cute) that has booze and will pour you doubles of wine, and charge you for two wines. I was feeling like a baller that day, as I somehow NEEDED two glasses of wine (both doubles)....I was seeing Trainwreck, don't judge! The snacks are the typical movie theatre snacks. The bathrooms could have been maintained a little better. I am always surprised that movie theatre bathrooms usually are in rough shape. I know no one wants to clean them but you really need to! You book your seats just like if you were in Europe so you know going into the theater if you can sit next to your date/friends/favourite wall (hey, loners like the movies too). Honestly, I'll bite down and deal with the 20 minutes of commercials to keep the ticket price low (and parking outside free)-- but that being said: seeing you book your seats ahead of time, feel free to wander in 5-8 minutes late from the start (then you should only see movie trailers, no Cocacola super ads). read more

Whoa, this theater. Tickets for the matinee are a mere $11 (take that, Boston Common!). That alone is enough to lure me in. Doesn't hurt that it's walking distance from my house. As mentioned in other reviews, there are assigned seats, so it's better to buy tickets online ahead of time, lest ye be separated from your party by circumstance. Apparently they're pretty strict about this (according to friends who had to sit apart during Mockingjay). All of the real planning seems to have gone into the theaters (which is good). Unfortunately, the entrance and concessions area are a mess! Very bad feng shui as you enter--if you come in from the side, you may be walking directly into the line of people, and if it's crowded, you may not see the machines to print your tickets from remotely. Take two sets of escalators up (past a weird Anglo-centric Hollywood mural) to...concessions? Another place to buy tickets? It's not very clear. If you are getting snacks, you've got to go down PAST the line, pick your food up, and come back to wait in a really crazy line. There are only three cash registers total, so I hope you're not in a hurry. Once you're in the theater, things are great. If you get seats in the front three or four rows, they recline! And if you picked the right pair of those front seats, the armrest between them can be lifted. Otherwise, I hope you didn't want to snuggle or whisper with your neighbor, because you are very far from them. It's cold in the theater. Maybe it's because I'm so far away from my neighbors. AMC, unlike other nearby theaters, you have finally justified the $13 ticket, the $6 popcorn, and $5 fountain drink. You even pre-select your seats when you purchase your ticket, so no more fumbling in the dark looking down aisles, trying to decipher whether it's a person or a pile of wool coats sitting in a seat you want. If you're going to buy nachos, drinks, a collection of Sno-Caps and peanut M&Ms, chicken fingers, be prepared for a slightly unconventional paying method. You are meant to pay first, then take your receipt to the various counters to collect your food. At least that's what I've been told, though I've screwed that up more times than I can count. For those over 21, +1 for a bar, -1 for the lackluster seating in said bar. On the plus side, you're allowed to bring your boozy libations into the theaters, prompting probably the "best movie ever" for a 3D viewing of virtually anything with a gin concoction under your belt. The fantastic theater seating lends to an experience much like sitting on your sofa at home, just with a screen and sound system 900x the size of your dinky-in-comparison-Samsung at home. +100 for comfort, -10 for the couple next to you feeling each other up under their jackets (I see your hand moving there, bud. Keep both hands on your rasberry Icy Slush). Overall, this is one of my new favorite places to catch flicks. The facilities are a serious upgrade from most of the theaters in the area, and I'm simply addicted to those reclining seats. Employees preparing food don't wear a mask and it takes about 5 minutes for them to acknowledge you are placing an order because they have their back turned to you. Movie theater seats are covered in popcorn and wrappers. Dirty dirty place. Better to stream movies at home. read more

I would 100 percent not recommend this theatre. As soon as we walked in a woman in front of us was coming out of the theatre complaining that the theatre was so cold she couldn't even enjoy the film. Then we walked up to the bar (it was 3:30) and asked if was closed. The woman was on her phone and said they opened up "around now". We opened up the stanchions ourselves and sat down. We ordered beers and she began to crochet. Then we went to get some food. There was only one guy taking our orders and making all of the food so it took far too long. He did have his iPhone headphones in so maybe it would have gone faster if that was not the case. read more

I recently saw Gone Girl at this movie theater and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This was my first visit to a theater with the uber fancy seats and I gotta say a girl can get used to it. The theater is located in the burgeoning new retail space of Assembly Square. Being an Orange Line girl, I took the T, which is located near one of the many FREE outdoor parking lots associated with the development. Give yourself a few extra minutes to walk from the T stop to the theater and you will be in good shape. Not being familiar with the set up, I didn't buy tickets online beforehand, but there are both live human beings you can talk to as well as use a kiosk to purchase your tickets if you fail to do it online. In all cases, you're picking out your seats, as there is assigned seating for this theater. On the plus side, if you're going with others you know you can sit next to each other (especially for those popular movies), though we ended up with seats farther away and there were apparently a bunch of no-shows. The seats are almost love seat in size. Lots of space between you and the person next to you. This could be a hard theater to put the moves on someone...All that being said, the seats are indeed quite comfortable. I can get used to this. Didn't get any booze or food, so can't comment on that...perhaps an updated review after I've sampled some stuff. But, if you want to, you can get your drink on. For me, this is a super convenient location. While I wish the development had some non-chain restaurants/bars for a bite before/after, you are a hop-skip-and-a-jump from other stuff either via a quick Uber ride or riding the Orange Line. read more

My wife and I normally go to the showcase cinemas in Revere. We decided to come to this theater because she had a gift card. When we entered the theater it didn't seem to busy. The employees don't seem to thrilled with their jobs and don't seem too friendly. I liked the Express option for snacks and popcorn. It definitely can help alleviate some of the unnecessary wait. When we entered the theater we found seats that have clearly seen better days. The theater is only a few years old. As I was about to take my seat I looked down and there was old popcorn and even smudged gum on the seat I almost sat in. Luckily my wife realized we were in the wrong seats. It appears the management have just let this place go and don't care about their facility. read more

I'm weird and don't like going to the movies, but this theater makes me dislike it less, if that makes sense. The worst part is that it's built on top of an outlet mall so you have to weave your way through foreign tourists with giant bags to get to the theater. I love that there are assigned seats and the fact that you can reserve the seats in advance. No more getting to the theater early to avoid the neck-strain from the front row. Came to the AMC Assembly Row to see Stars Wars in IMAX/3D and don't plan on ever coming back to this theater. Why? 1. What is the point of assigned seats if your seat location gets ripped off when you enter the theater!? The best part was upon realizing this snafu, we asked an employee if it is possible to tell us our seats by scanning what remains of our tickets and the part that could have been scanned was also ripped off! There has to be a better way! 2. The struggle bus of a snack area. The concession stand is one of the top five hottest messes I have ever experienced. It's hard to even put into words how annoying the overcrowded concession stand is. AMC, you need to seriously reconsider the set up you have at your Assembly Row theater or hire more employees. One person to make all the coffee drinks at peak times and then I have to get in a super long line to pay for the drink I just waited forever to get?! Not to mention, I think the system should work the other way around - receipt for goods handed in for said goods. I just can't. 3. For a newer, souped-up theater this just didn't do it for me. I don't think the viewing experience was any more enjoyable than the AMC Boston Common, the Somerville Theater or the Kendall Square Theater. Bottom line: Did I see the movie I came to see? Yes. Free garage parking located next to theater itself. Really comfortable wide leather seats in every theater (you pick out your seats prior to going into the movie). Prices are comparable to other major theaters.The food/concession stand is self serve, with a wide variety of options to choose from. There is a full bar located in the lobby, and you are allowed to bring your drinks into the movie theater. This AMC is a very nice addition to Assembly Row. read more

Living in Cambridge we used to drive over to Fenway to go see the summer blockbusters.. but no more! Went to go see Edge of Tomorrow in 3D here last night and we were completely blown away. - Free Parking, and tons of it (a rarity in these parts) - Extremely clean, new automated ticket machines and friendly staff - Basically the Whole Foods of Candy selections, literally aisles of candy and food - A full service bar with great prices (a rarity anywhere) - Huge leather recliner chairs and brand new theater systems We are definitely big fans from now on and I can't believe a place this great is right in our backyard. You no longer need to drive 25 minutes to Jordan's Furniture and walk 4 additional miles through sectional couches and ottomans to experience a big time movie. Give this place a shot. read more
