We emailed back and forth about what schedule and payment preference. Didn't hear anything back after a day so I texted. After 3 days from the original email asking for the enrollment documents and information I got an email with an attachment for payment authorization and payment breakdown. Ms. Monica wanted my bank account information and as of this still post never answered or sent anything about enrollment documents. I never had a daycare ask for payment before sharing or giving me the documents I needed to complete. I was not asking for my child to start before I paid. I just wanted to know all fees I had to pay up front and what documents needed to be filled out. Not sure if she asks for payment first from everyone. I had to remove my daughter from this school after I popped in unannounced and saw something that was completely unacceptable done to a child. I reported it to management and Brianne handled it so poorly and was very dismissive about the entire thing. Im not sure why they continue to have her in management after so many negative reviews about her. My daughter started April 1st there and every day I would drop her off she would cry hysterical and beg me not to take her to that school. I thought it was just her having trouble adjusting to a new environment but when I would pick her up she would have tears dried on her face like she's been crying the entire day. Once she saw me she would get up in a panic and run to me and say mommy let's go home now and I didn't realize how serious it was and how traumatized she was until I took her out of this location and put her in another location. She has been in her new school since May 1st and has not cried once during drop off she even asked me if she could stay longer when I went to pick her up which never happened in 4 weeks of her being in the Hackensack location . She told me she doesn't want to go back to her old bubbles and friends school because the teacher is mean and that her teacher will get really mad when she cries . She says the complete opposite about her new teacher so clearly the problem wasn't her adjusting it was the environment and teachers in that location. I'm thankful I randomly popped in that day because if I didn't see what I saw I would of probably kept her in this location for longer thinking it was just her adjusting but seeing how happy , excited and comfortable she is in her new school I know that it was not her having trouble adjusting she just didn't feel safe there. So parents if your kid is telling you they aren't happy there please listen to them.

While the administration pays a lot of lip service to the Reggio Emilia philosophy, that's all marketing and zero substance at this school. Reggio Emilia at its core is adaptive and flexible; the goal is tailor the educational approach to the learning style of each individual child. Contrary to that approach, the teaching staff (who, it must be said, are mostly very kind and caring) are trained to follow a single approach that is applied to all the children. My child attended the 2's and 3's program. When I observed that some of the classroom approaches were too rigid for her in some ways, and not challenging enough in others, and that the environment was in some ways not conducive to her learning style, I made suggestions to the administration about ways to adapt the setting to better suit her needs. My requests, which were trivial in scope and would not have posed much of a challenge from a budget or logistics perspective, were largely ignored. Instead, I was advised to hire an additional teacher, at my own expense, to work one-on-one with my child because her existing teachers were "too busy" with the other kids to handle my requests. Imagine that: after paying a tuition of over $15,000 per year for pre-school (which was more than I paid for my excellent private college!), I was told that in order to meet my child's educational requirements, I would need to pay for another teacher, an additional $120 per hour! Like the other parent below, we moved our daughter to another Williamsburg school, which has smaller class sizes, and an administration that cares about cultivating a healthy environment of learning. The people who run Williamsburg Northside care more about cultivating a healthy bottom line.

As a former staff member at Barnstable Academy, I believe prospective families deserve an honest…read moreunderstanding of the disconnect I witnessed between the school's advertised philosophy and its actual practices. The school presents itself as a supportive environment for students struggling with anxiety, ADHD, and other challenges. However, my experience left me questioning whether that philosophy was consistently put into practice when it mattered most. The school's emphasis on positive reinforcement sometimes appeared, in my observation, to come at the expense of meaningful accountability for repeated behavioral issues. More concerningly, I witnessed situations involving students who were being bullied in which their concerns did not appear to receive the attention or support they deserved. One incident particularly stands out. A student reported a threat of violence from another student, and I reported the concern to administration in my capacity as a mandated reporter. The response I received was, "This is age-appropriate behavior. Do you actually think this child will go through with this?" I found this response extremely concerning. When a student reports a threat, the concern deserves to be taken seriously and appropriately assessed. Dismissing the issue based on speculation about whether the student would actually follow through was not the response I expected from a school that emphasizes student well-being. What troubles me most is the potential gap between what families believe they are investing in and what students actually experience. Parents who choose a specialized school may be doing so because their children need additional support, understanding, structure, and protection from the very challenges they have already struggled with elsewhere. Compassion without accountability is not an effective behavior-support strategy, and a supportive school environment must include the students who are being hurt--not only the students whose behavior is causing the harm. I cannot speak to every family's experience, and I recognize that no school is perfect. However, my experience as a staff member left me seriously questioning the consistency of the school's approach to bullying, student safety, and behavioral accountability. My advice to prospective parents is to ask specific questions before enrolling your child. Ask how bullying complaints are investigated, how threats are assessed, what happens when behavioral problems continue despite positive reinforcement, and how the school ensures that every student feels safe and supported. Do not rely solely on a school's stated philosophy. Ask how those principles are implemented when situations become difficult. Families deserve transparency, and students deserve an environment where their emotional well-being and safety are taken seriously.

Teachers yell and scream at kids. As a parent who had a child at this school and has seen how…read moreteachers do their work remotely, I am appalled at their behavior. Screaming at the kids for not understanding something is not acceptable. Yelling at the kids for not being capable of tracing or drawing something perfectly is not acceptable, especially when their hand muscles are still developing. Berating a kid when he/she froze while answering a question is unacceptable and just shows what type of hostile environment is fostered at this school when kids even freeze. Yelling and putting down children because they're taking time while completing a task that is time consuming is not only unacceptable, but abusive. Yelling at a little child because he/she was distracted in a class that is not engaging where all they do is fill out worksheets, listen to muffled videos, and answer more worksheets is not acceptable. Yelling at a child that is still learning how to write their name because it's taking him/her too long is appalling. As a parent, you want your child to be in a safe environment; an environment that is welcoming, nurturing, and that fosters respect. This was not the case I encountered while my child received remote instruction at St. Raymond's. What is more appalling and worrisome is that this happened in front of other parents and caregivers. What happens inside the school when parents are not there? This type of behavior from the teacher and teacher assistant also happens in other classrooms. I have heard another teacher from a nearby classroom yelling at her little kids as well. There is absolutely NO reason why an "educator" needs to yell, berate, or scream at any student, let alone little ones constantly. This was an everyday occurrence. The teacher and teacher assistant always seemed peeved and annoyed. They didn't seem to enjoy their work at all. Imagine being a small child spending 7-8 hours of your day in a hostile environment where you do not know if you are going to get yelled at for some arbitrary reason. In the midst of this terrible pandemic, I was somewhat thankful that my child was receiving remote instruction so that I, as well as other people in my family and my child's caretaker, could see what goes on at this school. Unfortunately, the best the school administration can do is just change your child to another classroom. This is very telling. Teachers face no repercussions and clearly the administration does not care. Also, the teacher in my child's classroom did not provide differentiation of instruction or offered other ways to explain the material. If the children did not get it, she would become exasperated and berated them. This is not teaching. It does not matter how many years these teachers have been working as educators, if you can't foster a respectful, welcoming environment; if you can't differentiate instruction; if you can't explain new material in different ways so that everyone understands; if you are not capable of providing an engaging class, especially for little ones; if you "wing things" as the teacher has said herself during instruction; if all you do is fill out worksheet after worksheet, play videos that do the teaching for you; if you can't behave professionally with parents; if you can't regulate yourself as an adult in a classroom with little ones, then you are NOT a teacher and should not be in a classroom dealing with little ones. You are merely an actor regurgitating material and doing the bare minimum. In other words, you are a body collecting a check. As an educator, this type of teacher is an embarrassment to the profession. Fortunately for the school and the teacher, we can't record them. Thus, they have full control while rendering the parents and the children powerless since teachers like this do not face any consequences. I am thankful I was able to find another school for my child.
