It feels like a well-rounded homeschool curriculum. The extracurricular activities are also incredible. Swim, chess, martial arts, acrobatics, robotics and tennis are offered to all who want to participate. It's a gem with low student to teacher ratios. My absolute favorite thing is teaching with paper and pencils. No ipads, laptops, etc.

Loving pre school with exciting, new curriculum designed to prepare children for kinder. The…read morecurriculum was designed with st ignatius elementary (top ranked NY private elementary) in mind as an end goal. Very creative "out of the box" activities for kids, like a Polar Express day in the winter and an egg hunt with the Easter bunny in the spring. Fantastic new director who has motivated the school and brought fresh ideas. For example, there is now a developmental therapist and a child psychologist on call with retake programming for parents (eg how to discipline, sleep training, etc). The art program Is best in class - This year they instituted "night of art" with a local museum curator, wine, and walls of art made by the kids. Fantastic but selective pre school given it is a feeder school for St Ignatius elementary.

St. Ignatius Loyola Parochial School…read more Being raised Catholic and having many Catholic friends with children, I have attended many events at this school. It's like going to church and school at the same time. It's right next door to St. Ignatius Church where I attended daily mass before the pandemic. I've witnessed the results of their academic programs and recommend them wholeheartidly. Just be aware this quality education has a steep price. As far as the atmosphere, I love the statues and I'm always reading the awards and trophies. I'm sure I've captured as much as I can in my photos. It's like a museum in a school since there's a lot of history here. I have met many nice employees and feel welcome. I'm fortunate I've been able to visit inside to participate. I love this atmosphere when it's full of people! I don't want to post my people photos since they contain children and are personal.

Parents beware of Ms Larkin - This place is scary…read more I enrolled my son in Kindergarten and was initially thrilled that he was going to get a Catholic education. He is a good 5 year old and has struggles with going to the bathroom at school. His teacher was initially sympathetic to our situation and was working with us to get it resolved but then Ms Larkin intervened. We were called into Ms Larkins office where she acted like dictator with zero compassion or flexibility. She demanded we get him fully potty trained and provided no resources to help. Following our meeting, she sent us a note saying our son could not attend the school until he had no accidents. We sent a note telling her the steps we were taking including pulling him from school to get intensive training. When we returned him to school, she systematically instituted a program of intimidation to force her will on us. She went directly after him instructing the teachers and staff to pull him from class anytime he had an accident and place him in isolation where had to sit in his own excrement until we picked him up - this happened multiple times and caused my son significant distress. We then pulled him for two weeks to get more intensive potty training that involved hiring an expert hoping this would resolve the situation. When we returned him school he had another accident because the program included a laxative regime and they pulled him again making him sit in a room alone for 2 hours without changing him - I almost cried at the pain they put this little boy through. Ms Larkin personally oversaw all of this instructing the staff to do her dirty work while they ruthlessly went directly after him with no regard to his education or feelings. She also called my wife after I sent her an email complaint trying to turn the situation back in us while using intimidation and leverage over us as working parents. I have never experienced such thuggish behavior in my entire life l and no less from a Catholic institution that claims to teach the Catholic faith. My son cried at home for months as we went through this trauma and it impacted all aspects of our family life. I want others to know the type of people they could be dealing with if their children have issues. Ms Larkin systematically leveraged the full force of her staff to go after a 5 year old boy and us as his parents with the ruthless purpose of making us bend to her will. It is sad, as a lifelong Catholic who just wanted his son have a Catholic education, to see this school and associated church stray so far from its stated purpose. I feel I need to write this so that others understand the type of behavior my 5 year old son and wife experienced at the hands of Ms Larkin and her staff. My only hope is that others will read this and understand what they are getting into or lodge similar complaints if they had issues like we had because this must be addressed.

This is one of the best highschools you could ever attend! I attended here from 1994-1997 and I can…read morehonestly say it was four of the BEST years of my life! The faculty and staff are absolutely amazing and still to this day are! Best teachers I've ever had. Even better than the college professors I had in the years that followed highschool! The school is huge- made up of three floors (technically four floors but the top floor isn't used for classes- back when I attended it was used for religious events the school would have.) The school has a huge library, cafeteria, gymnasium, and even has a nicely sized chapel inside! Also- the building is immaculate. Always freshly painted looking, bathrooms are always kept clean, hallways and property out front are always clear of debris and garbage. The school also has a parking lot for students- which when you live in Astoria is just always rare to find a parking spot - so a parking lot is a blessing lol SJP always has events going on- from school concerts, plays, faculty and student games/events, religious getaways, ski trips, and trips to other countries even! The students are constantly interacting with each other. I made some of the best friends while at this school- some of which to this day- 20 years later- are still the best of my friends! As far as the classes go- you never get bored with choices- from band class, home economics, forensic science, creative writing, and many more! Also- the after school activities are endless! Sports, music, academic, culture clubs, you name it. Now- the tuition is pricey- but you get what you pay for, and you cannot top the education you'll get here! Don't be discouraged- it's worth the money. Every dime. I just recently had my 20 year reunion here - and it was a blast! Just as the 10 year one was! I'll keep coming back every time we are due for one! Well- I have endless stories and so many more awesome things I can talk about when it comes to this school, but I have to end my review already lol Next time there is an open house for this school- please go check it out for yourself or your kids. You won't be sorry! To this day- I still go back and visit some of my old teachers- who are now people I call- my friends.

My mother-in-law was in the first graduating class. My husband, my sister-in-law, my son's godmother, my cousins, and some of my best friends went there. Alumni wasn't just a word to me. My son is a 16 year old boy. No excuses, but they make mistakes. In early October, I reached out to the school to ask for help with my son, my growing teen. The advice I was given was get outside help. That was it. So I followed the advice. SJP didn't follow up us. SJP didn't help my son in his time of need. SJP didn't touch base with him regularly. SJP didn't reach out to me to be a team, as a school and a family should be. Now they've turned their back on him. I'm so disgusted. I'm so upset. My family would do anything for anyone. We are members of the community that try to always do what's best. Instead of working with us, alumni of the school, instead of trying to work with my son, a child that had two and a half years in their school, their answer was we won't help you. Their answer was we don't have the resources to help. If you chose to lead teenagers in today's society, then you need the resources to do just that. My son isn't a bad kid. My son needed help and instead of helping they made things worse. I can't tell you the loss I feel in my heart for SJP.
